The Thing may be Darn Near Invulnerable to anything, But when it comes to his heart...that's a whole other thing. #comics #content #explore #new #explained #marvel #fantasticfour #thething #thing #marvelcomics #wedemboys
A little bit, I wouldn’t say it’s nearly as bad as Spider-Man. With Ben, it’s more like “Here’s a sort of what-if scenario.” With Spider-Man, it’s “here’s the absolute worst thing we can do to someone because we feel we have to at all points of the day”
@@rynemcgriffin1752In my opinion, I feel like some people over exaggerate on how bad Spider-Man’s life is. To me his life is pretty decent. Sure he loses his loved ones and has bad things happen to him which is still terrible. But It’s apart of being a Hero. If I were to choose who has the worst life, would probably be Wolverine. Because every year when it’s his Birthday SaberTooth comes and makes his life a living hell. The Thing. Because he feels alienated by people that he has once lived with. And that alienation causes him to disconnect from his teammates/friends. I know that in a majority stories Spider-Man has suffered, but can we at least not act like he’s the only hero that has suffered casualties or harm inflicted by someone. Especially in other stories like, Punisher vs The Marvel Universe, Marvel Zombies and more.
"You think I'm some freak who's into monsters?" No lady, but anyone who wants to sleep with you clearly is such a freak. She is the real monster. No idea why there is no top comment stating this. Don't be fooled by the crying. Someone with their brain developed this way wouldn't be capable of seeing their mistakes. She is going to inhibit it within seconds by lying to herself, that 'I'm bad, but my actions aren't bad, I had my reasons, so I'm not really bad'. What disordered psychos do.
The fact she cries after hearing him say "You could have just asked..." that shows at least in my view she realises she's a horrible person and knows she cannot undo the damage done.
It looks like she tried to hurt him deliberately so he'd react angrily, letting her feel right for judging him based on his looks alone. Since he reacted to being hurt so deeply by literally giving her what she wanted even after being devastated like that, I think you're right. She was forced to acknowledge that he was truly a decent person inside and out, and that she had done everything in her power to show how cruel she could be to someone who truly cared about her. After all, what kind of person does that to someone? A monster.
@@jacyhoogvliets5716 the difference is that Killer Croc can embrace being treated like a monster and actually be one. Ben does not. And that's what makes him so endearing.
One thing I don't get is why, in the Marvel Universe - where there are so many mutants and aliens and other strange creatures - the Thing is seen by the public as an unspeakable monster. I'd wager he's less frightening looking than many who don't get the same "ahhhh, monster!" storylines
Probably because most of them look human. In the xmen, they have ways to hide their powers, avengers are basically celebrities, and others don't really care. The thing has no way to hide his powers and people will always be afraid of others who look different
I think it’s cause bro just walks through the middle of New York. There’s bound to be someone freaked out. But the fact he talks completely normal kinda ruins it for how often it happens to him.
This story is pretty dark for Ben, but in others he can show his face without causing a ruckus. He is quite a celebrity, like the rest of the 4F, and a big part of NY is used to his looks. I guess the problem is people from outside NY. Also, there are many people that hadn't any real contact with mutants and aliens besides the TV, so it's understandable they react extremely when they finally met one.
@@jamesroad316 Aren't F4 also celebrities? They have their own HQ in the penthouse of Baxter Building, they do not have secret identities, all of that. So in my opinion people should already be accustomed to Ben being there. I mean yeah he's a big rock golem but he's not destroying the city or anything. Just...chilling.
The most unrealistic part of this is that there are apparently NO monster-F’ers in this universe. Seriously, Ben should have veritable legions of them ready to jump his rocks.
@@russellharrell2747yea I don’t get it Ben looks awesome he’s a big orange buff rock man who is kind and saves people I swear random comic book background characters are npcs bro
Get the jackal to make a composite clone of Ben, Peter, Matt, Mr immortal, and Howard the duck then he’d have created the ultimate loser in the universe.
At first I was like, damn, why didn’t you take a piece off your foot or something? But then I realized he took a piece by his heart, so I got that symbolism.
Some Marvel Heroes like the Thing and the X-Men are like the retail workers of the Marvel Universe, they do their intended job and still get shit from civilians for it.
I think the thing is the Thing can’t do the thing because the Thing’s thing is now like the rest of the Thing, making doing the thing with the Thing not an enjoyable thing.
@@lawrencetalbot8346But what if the Thing’s thing isn’t like the rest of the Thing, meaning he can do the thing but when his thing is finished, the Thing expels Thing-like things from his thing?
@@kingvulcoon1752Well I assume the thing with The Thing's thing is like the rest of the thing, but the other thing with The Thing's thing is that it still might be a thing The Thing can do the thing with. Maybe The Thing's thing is always doing the thing thing's do and isnt entirely too different to other things. As they say everything's a thing if your thing can handle a thing.
@@dippin4dotsThe Things thing must be a mad ting ya know Bumbaclot bet he Smash up the ting nicely that bad man thing with his ting jesus christ pussyclat ting must sing real general that Thing there. 🇯🇲 😅
It's also pretty sad that his only real girlfriend is a literal blind woman. In order for The Thing to find happiness, he has to be with someone who is incapable of seeing his form and is forced to see the man on the inside. Ben is a representation of the extremely self-conscious person who always feels out of place. No one sees him, and when they do, they want him to go away/run from him. His friends are all amazing with powers they can turn off and on at will while he's forever stuck being ugly. They get all the positive attention and he gets all the negative. It's no wonder the guy is depressed all the time.
I feel sorry for Ben he tries so hard to be a hero for all hope but people see him as just a monster made out of rocks and I don’t blame him for arguing with Reed for trying to make him human. This has to be saddest thing I seen Ben be. You know it’s been years why hasn’t Reed figure out a cure for his appearance? Love this channel ❤🖤
@@MichaelDeHaven It's just the suspension of disbelief. We're made to think that Mr Fantastic is the smartest man in the world. Not just any world, but the world of Marvel Comics that is full of geniuses, marvels of science and magic. If so, how come that he didn't cure his friend yet after a decade or two? The only logical reason you could think of would be, that he didn't really try.
@@eomin There's been stories that explored this and it's a pretty constant source of friction between the two when Ben is feeling particularly alienated.
Man I love monster based characters because you can tell stories like this. To show that they’re more than what they look and just want to love and respected.
Living to 6,000 yrs old, seeing all of Human society make stride after stride, advancements that even Reed likely could’ve never fathomed and seemingly finding acceptance among those that millennia past would’ve just as quickly cast him aside… sounds terrible… (no it doesn’t) Yes he saw (virtually) all the people he’d ever known over the course of thousands of years die around him in what was comparatively hours in his time, but he held their memories, their dreams… he made countless other close friendships, surely had amazing relationships and partnerships with other heroes… saw his fair share of heroes turn evil and his fair share of villains become heroes With an unnaturally long life comes tremendous heartbreak, but you can’t discount the joys and excitement that he got to experience We all waited an eternity to exist in these brief, “blink and you’ll miss it” lives, and we have all of eternity after them to be dead… I’m in no hurry to meet eternity, and even it it takes 20 years, 200 years, 2,000 years or 20,000 years, I’ll still be dead for all eternity Eternity can wait; I’m doing just fine down here
I adore when I find randomly great, provocatively amazing and in-depth comments of people. I’m proud and fascinated by your expressions. Know that even despite people not speaking out loud to this, doesn’t mean they won’t be noticed, aware or even inspired by you. Achieve & Attain!
Made me shed some tears to be honest. One of my favorite marvel characters. Like many he doesn’t deserve the treatment people give him. Hate to see him be hurt.
Seeing amazing comic stories like this is what makes me worried about the upcoming fantastic four movie. Developing 4 of them with this kind of quality within a 2 hour runtime doesn't seem optimal. But I'd love to be proven wrong
Just... _why_ can't they just love Ben for what he fucking is? I don't get why people always look at Ben and go "ZOMG MONSTER AAAAAAAAAAA" when we've _seen_ how heroes and such look like in the Marvel Verse and yet Ben is a point too fucking far?! Also... "You could have just asked". God damn, Poor Ben...
This is just so sad, I finally get why The Thing wants to be human so bad he gives the symbiote a shot, when you made the symbiote video I didnt understand why he would go to such lenghts to look human again, now I do
I hate to give you ANOTHER Thing comic to check out, but Marvel Two-In-One Annual #7 from 1982 has maybe my favorite Thing story, with him boxing an alien for the fate of the world. Whether or not you make a video about it (although I'd love to see one), you should definitely read it if you haven't. Seems up your alley.
The epitome of "Sticks and stones cant hurt my bones, but hurtfull words wounds me" Or, my favorite variation: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me"
You don't need superheroes for this to be realistic. Just substitute how Ben looks with being smart and introverted in the 80s (for example) and the violent nature of the conflict with being led on, used, and exploited for some other purpose, only to be crushed when the truth is revealed. It does happen. It's happened for decades. And given human nature, it'll probably happen until the human race snuffs itself out.
I just discovered this channel, I had no idea that there was even one person in the world like me who considers Ben Grimm their favorite hero. Since I was 3 I was asking my Dad and Mom for toys, comics, and such of this beautiful Orange Rocked heart of gold hero. I'm 30 and that hasnt changed. I love this guy. I'm still sad that when i was a kid i gave away my favorite foot tall Ben Grimm figire to my younger cousin trying to be generous only to find out he threw it away couple years later.
Omg omg this is the comic that got me into it all, I remember being like 7 and my parents tossed a couple comics into my room. Most of them were what I expected, good guy beats bad guy, everyone is happy until I saw this and it being so dark but edgy and cool just got me hooked right away. The Thing has always been in my top 5 and I’ll always come back to this comic as a reason why, the depth and character development is perfect.
Thank you for this. I’ve been into the FF since the mid 1960’s and the ones where they explore the heart and soul of Ben Grimm have been some of the very best. Pathos is a subject only rarely explored in Marvel. And it is best done when exploring the lives of those who endure the most disfigurement to gain their power. Thank you for this.
Did Marvel comics suddenly forget about Alica Masters? The Thing's long-time girlfriend and daughter to the F4's enemy The Puppet Master? Seriously? Or did I miss the memo when they retconned her from everyone's memory?
Probably yet another retcon situation. Remember that like the DCU, the Marvel Verse always has this weird retcon situation where other characters are either erased or stay dead.
Not my boi, not Ben, ever since i was in middle school i related more to Ben after what happened to me, two girls did a prank on me with one saying they liked me and the other recorded, and when it was all said and done they she said "oh come on, you didnt actually think i liked you?" Witch just broke me
Damn man I I almost started tearing up, I know all too well that devastation. Thank goodness thats in the past and these days things are SO much better
Yes you have delivered a killing blow to my heart I was expecting this I assumed someone close to Ben was murdered but WOW this is truly and awful some people can actually act like her like it's normal ben is one of the FRIENDLIEST individuals you will run across 😢 ..... The scans won't pick up where I'm hurt at
I'm truly going to be honest I will always love and respect all your video content but I think the real question is you should do a video of the strongest Marvel Comic character in The Creation the one above all
Even though this story is sad it shows how much Reid and the rest of the team care about Ben. It’s sad Ben can’t find a partner but it’s also sad he can’t see how much his family loves him.
As a person who got bullied at first as a kid but slowly got accepted with humour and sometimes fists, I can really relate to Ben. I still hate the ending, seeing superheroes who are not only beginners to still get so much hate is disgusting to me.. I would propably be a villain if that happened to me.. 😂
I just want to hug Ben right now. The poor guy has been mistreated badly by his appearance. These shallow people may look at him as orange rock monster, but if you look at his blue eyes. Theirs a human soul trapped inside it.
Have you covered the issue where Thing fights Hulk as Mr. Fixit for the first time, but doesn’t recognize him as the Hulk? Hilarious issue. They completely WRECK Central Park. Very unique strategy by the Hulk; and the Thing has some great one-liners throughout.
A fun reminder, that the marvel adventures was the all ages line. It’s where we got Hulk making bullseye pay taxes, ultron being a creation of shield, the nicest version of the character hatemonger, Emma frost: love interest of Spider-Man , Wolverine revealing he read watchmen, and Ben Grimm getting his heart torn worse than temple of doom.
I've never paid much attention to the Fantastic Four, espically the big orange rock but the first minute of your video intregued me...have I been missing something good? That was all it took for me to sub and start the Ben Grimm deep dive :)
I think ben grim is one the best characters in marvel. Hes actually pretty complex in comparison to most marvel heros. He kind but guarded. Love his friends but hate everything else. Constantly looked at like a monster but being to exact opposite.
What hurts even more is that piece of Ben was from right above his heart. He gave her his heart, bloody and broken from the pain she put him through for her greed.
