Blame Disney. They trained generations of kids to line up at their parks to get autographs from nobody's dressed up like a character.

Topps baseball did this with their Opening Day product marketed to kids. They had the team mascots "sign" the cards. So, perhaps these are made for kids and meant to be cheap. Not everything has to be a chase card or super expensive.

I thought you were going to talk about some of the custom cards that someone has made, confusing people about if they are real cards or not. But after watching this video, I think you’re right. I’d like to see what the graded PSA slabs say, saying it’s an authentic autograph.

I was just at my local LCA and I saw someone buying a bunch of this stuff. He was telling me how he got the Elsa autograph but I assumed it was the actor.

This may be an extension of characters signing at the Disney parks. Kids have a lot of fun getting their autographs. In that sense, I kinda don't mind it. If kids want to chase Nemo or Wolverine autos, whatever. It's kinda fun. But I think adults getting into this is pretty sad. Adults have ruined cards in a lot of ways, so I'm not surprised we're seeing graded Chewbacca autos. Gotta get that money! People should be leaving these to the kids. Let them have their fun.

I don’t look at is an actual auto. It’s just a whacky little insert card. It would be like a Batman cape relic. Just a cool addition. Doesn’t increase the value of the product. They weren’t done with the intent that people will think this was really signed by a fictional character.

Norm MacDonald did a great segment on Letterman talking about sitting on a bench at Disney watching his nonexistent kid stand in line to meet Mickey Mouse and him saying he was too smart for that because it is just a guy in a suit. Panini started this crap with WalMart patch jerseys of numbers that are not even the players number put on their big hits.

Oddly enough, in, of all things, Japanese Soccer Trading cards, some of the most popular cards in the set can be the Mascot Autograph card. Imagine if Upper Deck put Gritty autos in packs, or Topps offered autos of Atlanta’s Freeze.

Disney I almost understand because the characters have autographs. People collect them when they go to the parks. The Marvel autos makes zero sense.

I'm with you, but . . . 1. Are we sure these are hand-signed? After looking at 3 Scarlet Witches, they looked close enough for me to question if they are facsimiles/printed autos. 2. I like Marvel, but I don't know all things about it. Did these characters sign their names like this at some point in a comic, on a show, etc.? I doubt, but who knows.

I agree it is weird, but isn’t much different than panini patches not associated with the player. It is a decorative collectible at that point. When people put on blinders and pay a big premium is dumb.

The person who signed as Wolverine should sue Topps for using his likeness without compensating him for his likeness and uses that Topps had him sign the cards as proof that he is indeed Wolverine! It is The Miracle in 34th Street statute.

Alf is wrong. Let me show you how. I have Robert Englund's autograph as Freddy Krueger. In my opinion, it's one of the coolest autographs I own. Simply because it's in character. Also, I don't care about resale value. Too many of these collectibles RU-vidrs focus ENTIRELY on money. It's short sighted and feels of being fake.

I like the actual actors when they sign cards, and if i want pictures I'll buy a vintage comic. Other than that i don't personally care for modern marvel cards at all

These are not nor are they intended to be real autographs for the Disney or Marvel cards. If you look at the official Topps checklists, they are labeled as facsimile autographs. No random people are signing them just computer generated autos.

I don’t think they are live ink autos. Just a printed signature. It may be silly but is just a SP insert really. No more insane than a waffle Stranger things border or a Zebra Print Prizm.

I've had the Philly Phantic & Mariener Moose signed cards - yes people care - sold both in about 1/2 hour each after posting them for sale - $50+ on each - made people happy - that's all that matters. I do get what you are saying though......

Yeah this feels a bit silly. If it were a Wolverine card signed by Hugh Jackman, absolutely. But some random dude writing "Wolverine" on a card feels strange. Maybe it's more appealing to kids? I don't know. I feel like even kids know better lol
