Just stupid this guy is 😂😂😂😂 2nd gen rusts cuz 9/10 they got 400,000 on them and they are still running like tops and if u get the standard transmission you’ll be more bullet proofed than any new truck 😂😂😂 nice video guys 😆 guy needs to do some research on Chevy problems lol
I usually completely agree with you videos but how about vehicles like the Aztec or the envoy xl, how about any F-150 with cam phasers, Durango gen 1, 95-04 tacos, gen 1 Escalades,
@@nichollisschmidt7932 Cummins do run forever but as someone who’s family sells both Chevy and dodge it is proven time and time again if you maintain 2 truck exactly the same and put around the same miles every year the Chevy will structurally stay together longer dodges tend to rot in places that are integral to truck. Both Awsome a dodge will out tow a Chevy and out plow a Chevy but when it comes to abuse nothing can kill a gas or diesel Chevy if left stock.
I'm tired of the unnecessary hate on the honda ridgeline look I know it's not a body on frame vehicle with 4wd and with a big v8 or whatever but it wasn't designed to be that it was designed for someone that wanted truck like practicality but the comfort and drivability of a car and the ridgeline is best at that.
@@ericksanchez7787 ok yes they are comfortable and reliable but so are mini vans. They are the minivans of trucks. You don’t modify a mini van. And your right it’s like a car. It’s like they took the crv and buffed it up a bit and put a bed on it. The only good thing it had was they had a built in cooler in the bed which was cool
@@Ryan-vp8ul that is also true it's a pilot with a bed but in my opinion the ridgeline is a truck just not a traditional truck it's fine that people that don't like it but I hate that some seem to judge it like it's an f150 competitor that its supposed to tow or haul allot but that's not its purpose it's a urban light duty pick up with unique features that others don't offer but hey it's just my opinion
Just a pretty piss poor attempt all around. Explorers and h3s? Why stop there? How about 4 runners or rav 4s? Those little blazers or jimmys ? Caravans?
not only that but its actually a really reliable truck, i'm the original owner and it still runs great after 17 years, it only looks ugly stock bc of the rake it has.
They also forgot to mention that the spark plug ejection was primarily in the 10th gens, but even then, the problem can be avoided if a little extra care is taken when replacing the spark plugs. With the 11th gens, the spark plugs are known to get stuck in the head and break because of a stupid 2 piece design Ford decided was a good idea to try.
Luckily they fixed that design and now they really arent that bad, just gotta make sure your oil changes are up to snuff, also do a quality timing job and throw a high volume oil pump in her and you are golden.
Fuckin love my 5.4 3v I personally thing they are better than the 5.3 chevy because they do actually have more power and torque stock that is also for anyone who says they are trash maybe learn how to do maintenance and that goes for every vehicle
6.4 Powerstroke was worse though :/ And the 2005-2007 6.0s had way less issues. My first truck was a 6.0 and I loved it and had no issues at all. It still runs today at 227k miles stock with just an exhaust and a *cough* egr.. removal *cough*
There all good motors just there’s stupid kids who like to beat on the motor road coal like if theres no tomorrow and do burnouts and then they ask themselves man this motor sucks 😂🙄
My friend bought one with 190,000 on it and it was never beat on an old guy owned it the cleanest truck I've ever seen but the turbo went bad lifter went bad head gasket and now it makes a loud squeaking from the engine but bot the belt
I'm with ya, we've had the same 6.0 in our family since new. Was my grandpas, then mine, now its my brothers. 160k miles and the only issues have been 3 injectors, egr cooler that was fixed when deleted and a FICM. Other than that its been an extremely reliable truck. I would 100% say the 6.4 is worse. They have the same issues but end up significantly worse as its a much more complex motor.
I KNOW! I hate the hate on the engine. The idiots expect to run the shit outta a truck and expect it to be fine. I have a 06 f250 6.0 and it’s ran GREAT! With 190k miles, it’s only needed a oil hose! That’s it! I’ve ran it hard too! I haven’t even bulletproofed it and it’s been an amazing truck. Fuck the haters and keep on living the 6.0! (Ps the 6.4 sucks)
The 6.4 was a great and really strong motor, the emissions killed them, if you find a low mile one or one that was deleted very soon in its life it will run forever
Judging by your profile picture I take it your Ford fan I love words as well I’m also a Toyota fan but my first truck was a Ford A 03 F150 with a 5.4 L Triton it has a 6 inch lift upgraded exhaust and that was a great truck for me for first truck and I have to say though And the only major thing I fixed was the alternator and the AC I didn’t do the AC myself but I did the alternator and it wasn’t hard at all I say older forwards are better in my opinion simply because they’re easier to work on if you’re a little bit mechanically inclined and that’s why I told people if you’re going to go ford go older
Anyone else notice that he didn’t get the years right for the second gen and f-150’s? Not only that, but the second gens came in so few of the crew cabs that it really isn’t worth mentioning
@@tacoburrito6426 Dodge stopped making crew cabs in '88 due to production line space and didn't start again until '03 or around then. They did offer extended cab suicide doors sometime in the late 90s.
@@tacoburrito6426 all 2nd gen crew cabs were done by a conversation company in I believe south dakota or canada. It sucks cause its one of my dream trucks but they’re hard to find
The problem with triton motor didn't really happened until they went to the two piece spark plugs in 05 and when went to 3 valve engines. When the 3 valve came in is were you run into timing chains cam phaser. Eco-boost is also plagued by the same issues. 5.4 were worst then 4.6 to a point. But also remember those fun exhaust manifold to do even the v10 have problems. They are to restricted for those engines.
yea, the 97-03 F150's are some of the most reliable trucks fords ever made. The 4.6 is literally bulletproof and the 2V 5.4 is a great motor as long as you do the plugs on time or they like to seize to the heads. But I see high mileage 2v 5.4's all the time on Marketplace.
We have both a 03 and 06 f150 with tritons and they both have dog shit reliability. The 02 we bought with a new motor with 30k miles and still is messing up and the 06 grenades more timing chain tensioners than any other truck on earth.
@@theghost8505 I have a buddy who got a 4.6 brand spanking new in 2001 and he drove state to state for a living it is still being used to this day with over 147.789.452 miles on it to be exact so basically over 1.4 million miles on it
2nd gen are a bad ass truck don’t get me wrong but have a shit load of problems Owned 3 and all three had loads of problems I believe 6.0 is better have had a few and all are very good especially after 05 they were quite reliable if you took of the EGR and didn’t run crazy tunes or HP on stock headgaskets
Can confirm. I’ve spent approximately $20,000 give or take a couple thousand on my 05 f150. But it now has upgraded parts to bulletproof the engine, rebuilt the transmission and gon through the drivetrain to prevent future problems.
The parts cost way more than Chevy and allot less made. Better quality you pay for. That being said I’m a Chevy guy I have an 08 gmc I’m keeping for life . I however got a 97 manual f150 with 100xxx for 3k and dumped new motor and rebuilt front end and trans. Why? Because I wanted a f150 built how I wanted and I’ll have 18,500 into a basically new truck with old retro shell and booming sound system and a manual trans. Couldn’t buy that from ford if you tried. Sad really.
It’s not bias if you can back it up, Chevy stuck with the pushrod V8 for what some people thought was too long and they made the best known one because they were stubborn and wanted to prove a point, and even in the small size pickup line up chevy for the most part did a good job until they ditched the V6 4.3 and switched to the I5 as the “big” engine option due to having to sell out some names in their parts bin, currently GM is kind of cheating out until you get into heavy duty pickups though and most 1500s are luxury vehicles with a pickup bed nowadays
The 5.4s had the issue of spitting out spark plugs from 99 to 03. After that ford overengineered the problem so from 03 up the plugs were difficult to remove because ford had lots of threads
I just got a 5 speed manual 2nd gen Cummins that is stock as hell with almost no rust at all and I’m in the rust belt! Idk if my truck applies to this list
It doesn’t lol they’re really good trucks. U CANNOT beat a Cummins. They hold their value really good better than most trucks. Transmission are the only weak area and that can be solved by either getting a manual or building the auto. They can be rusty yea but that comes with age. But in the end it’s all worth it because u have a badass diesel that’s fun as hell, looks amazing and sounds like angels singing.
I have a crown vic with a 4.6, its never let me down but I did do the intake manifold swap to an upgraded aluminum one after the thermostat housing cracked on the original
10th and 11th gen f150s most common failures were the transmissions. Most common issue for the motors were the fuel modules, manifolds and occasionally spark plugs since most ppl didn’t change them in those
My grandfather has a 2003 F150 with the 5.8 in it and it's a great truck. Never had an issue and hes around 180k miles. But its babied majorly. Also I want a 2nd gen Cummins but i have that struggle with ragged out ones in my area with no worth left in it. And a 2005 and 2006 6.0 was one of my dream trucks but I've heard horror stories
My dad has a 2001 f-150 and multiple times you would go to start it and you’d hear pow and it would blow the spark plug then it would shoot air out the cylinder and sound like a tractor
first truck: 2002 ford f150 with a 4.6L 16V with 203k miles. I've driven it 12k miles and haven't been nice at all to it and I haven't had any problems so far. the spark plug issue depends on the year, size of the engine, engine # of valves, and engine manufactured location. I think i got the one year 4.6L with the good # of valves and the Windsor engine which is the slightly better version. I've mainly only heard the spark plug problem in the 5.4L and 3 valves. still a great truck though. only time will tell.
I own 2 second gens though 😬😭 I still love mine though and i wouldn't get rid of em ever imma sucker for second gens too they just look so good in my opinion
@@qwyntonbulmer2668 damn. I might buy me a second gen in the future. Probably not a V10 though as I would like a 360 or a 318. my complaints about the truck at all?
I own a 05 f150 4.6 and never had the spark plug issue and ive had a 04 mustang 4.6 same motor, never has the issue either and never heard if that issue
People love to run their engine 50k past scheduled maintenance and then complain when something goes wrong. If you take care of your equipment, it takes care of you.
My dad has a 05 F-150 with the 5.4, no issues with anything. Even after 200k miles and 2 car accidents that totaled both of the cars that hit him (he only had to replace the push bar, no damage to the truck besides a broken headlight). Oh and knowing 7 6.0l powerstroke owners, no issues.
I was kind of dumb and just eager to own my own truck, so I found exactly the style I was looking for on craigslist, a white 1986 (7th gen bullnose) F250 Lariat SuperCab with a long bed for 11k. It's super clean inside and out, RWD and has the 7.3 IDI, which I didn't really mind. I drove it perfectly fine for about a week, before I learned the previous owner must've driven it without oil for extended periods of time. The whole block was warped and when the pump blew I had to rip the whole engine out and put a new one in with a Banks turbo for 5k. It really put a dent in my savings, but I'm starting to recover. When I have the extra money down the road I want to put running boards, a 3" body lift (I think they work well on OBS') and black AM Baja's (16x10 -25) wrapped in 235/85 Falken Wildpeaks.
Don't forget the second gen 24valve cummins also had a line of bad blocks manufactured in Brazil that would break do to the engine heat over time. The tall tale sign of this is the exhaust manifold would crack and then a few months later a large crack in the block would form. Me and my uncle had to fully build an engine for it because that happened and cummins even said the Brazilian blocks are junk. Then four years ago we swapped the original 5-speed out for an aftermarket 6-speed which this past year we blew out hauling a boat since the transmission was as basic as can be but the engine was bulked up.
@@jonathancourtney9514 not if you wanna remain emissions compliant anyway. If you're ok with doing a full emissions delete on a 6.4 then it'll last forever. But they're such a pain in the ass to work on that a power stroke dedicated shop won't work on them anymore.
I had a 2000 Ford Expedition with the 5.4 and it blew out 6 of the 8 plugs over the coarse of its life. Not to mention that it was a pain to re-tap and thread the 4 rear spark plug holes.
Well after going down the ford,Dodge and Chevy road and now owning two Toyota’s 2013 RAV4 and a 2015 Tundra V8. NOT ONE PROBLEM. I can’t say this about the other trucks I’ve had. Tundra’s are built in Texas.
I'm very surprised about the f150. Thought those engines were reliable. But damn spark plugs are important. I remember Fueller made a video on the 6.0 powerstroke. Not the best engine. A lot of guys had that in the custom offsets team. Not surprised at the explorer, dodge and Hummer.
I can confirm this, had a 5.4 triton 99 f250 as my first truck and threw two spark plugs. Sold it for the same price I paid less than a month before the engine blew up (not intentional)
89 is an idi unless it has had an engine swap to 7.3 powerstroke. A 7.3 IDI or 6.9 IDI Turbo is not considered a Powerstroke. They are 2 completely different engines. Also, i would add coolant additives to it. The 7.3 idi is basically a bored out 6.9 so the 7.3 idis can have cylinder cavitation. Good luck they are good trucks
My 2001 Cummins has 347k miles and 0 blow by. She’s an nv4500 truck and I have yet to lose 5th gear. She’s minty and I love it. Also the 6.0s are only good if you build them
Yea you can tell when they were talking about the f150s and the 4.6 having spark plug ejection problems it was only in the 5.4 first off and then they fixed it after the first 3 model years because it didn’t have enough spark plug threads and they were aluminum so they stripped easy but they added more and made it not aluminum in 2003 so you can tell they aren’t doing their research here
@@guyontheinternet8891 couldn’t agree more I have friends that drive Ford Expeditions and I call them trucks and people say “what truck?” I seem to be the only one that understands that that is a re-bodied F150. People tell me if it doesn’t have a bed it isn’t a truck. I can’t handle that! The ford super duty’s and Silverados are offered without boxes from the factory! Are they trucks? Yes! Are peters trucks? Hell yeah! They don’t have boxes but they are trucks!
As long as you know how to use a torque wrench the spark plugs are fine at least on the 2 valve 5.4 triton. I only did a timing chain on my truck and it’s been fine at now almost 200k miles
it will be mine when i’m older if we’re getting technical. it rolled into my uncles driveway one day. it was an old mans truck and it quit on him. 600 bucks. got a parts truck for 350 for the motor and we’re good to go.
I owned a 98 150 with a 4.6 and currently own a 05 150 with a 5.4. The 4.6 gave me no problems, Sold it at 230,000 miles. The 5.4 I think it's starting the tick and it's a Ford reman. Melling came out with an upgraded oil pump 2 years ago to fix the 5.4's problems. Ibwill see how this goes lol
Third! Love the video. number 2 hurt but is so true I love my second gen dodge but I was lucky enough to get mine cheap second owner and its not a diesel but dodge transmission are notorious shit boxes, well at least the 46re automatic. That some genius at said "huh I think this will work, I mean the 3.9 magnum and 5.9 magnum bell housing is the same, Yes it will work" that jackass failed to recognize the torque difference in them two motors. Don't get me wrong I love my truck I have 204k miles on it and it hasn't let me down, but I'd be fucking fool not to recognize the problems that can and will arise with these trucks
The 2nd Gen Ram never came with a crew cab. The red truck you showed was a custom job. You are right about the bro tax though. Gotta get a 6 speed trans.
So here's the breakdown with the 4.6 and 5.4 the 4.6 2v comes from the 10th gen all the way to about 2005 then they changed to 3v but didnt shoot plugs don't k ow where that came from the 5.4 2v was also fine didnt shoot plugs but had a timing chain know to fail after 230k ish but the 2v never shot plugs only the 3v did it was because ford didnt drill the hole out enough only drilling out 4 threads instead of 8 threads that a spark plug has
The first year of the 11th gen (2004) used the 2v 4.6 after they used the 3v 4.6 the 2v is great engine and i know the spark plugs were an issue but the 3v had much more problems then the 2v i own a 2v
I’m young, stupid and uneducated and I got myself a 12 Silverado for 18k 2 months ago I am now having a few minor issues and I’m afraid things could get worse 😎😎😎✅💯 Things are good lmao
Really simple and cheap trucks to fix shouldn't be a disaster.. I mean a chevy engine swap is close to same price as replacing fuel injectors for a Cummins.
The 10th and 11th gen F-150s are very reliable if properly maintained. I have 3 of them and no sparkplug issues. All original engines. 1. 2007 F-150 5.4 - 312,000 trans rebuilt at 275,000 always towed a trailer and 8,800 lb rv 2. 2003 F-150 4.6 - 261,000 all original 3. 2007 F-150 5.4 - 225,000 reverse went out at 200,000 backing up a trailer
I'd definitely say this list is spot on. I owned an 11th Gen F150 with a 5.4, paid more than double the purchase price in repairs over two years, and it still needed a whole new top and front end of the engine (about 8k from the shop) when I finally got rid of it. Literally the reason why the "lifted Ford" stereotype exists.
I like how the 11th gen f150 in there other video was rated in the top 5 best beginner trucks to buy lmao the 5.4 3v found in the 2004-2010 f150s did not have the spark plug issue that was the 2v's only bad thing about a 3v is the cam phasers
I loved my H3 Alpha "5.3 V8". Very rare. Only made a few hundred, 2010 year only. Interior was garbage, but it was a good truck. Leveled on 33's and the CAI and tuner from a silverado worked on it.
Yes I bought a Pit-Hole still today as a female 1500Hemi ! Need to sell a MINT so we can get a farm truck because too clean for us! Hubby 2500 perfect for him. We have 2500, 1500 (newly owned for 8 years) , & Dakota.... all 2-3 owners
I’m sorry but I got to defend a 10th gen here. Yes they may spit out plugs, but there’s a kit called cal van that is an amazing kit to get. It’s all cut and dry on how to use it. I’ve had one spit out on me and I bought this kit and decided to do all 8 right away and now I just fixed the problem permanently for 200$. Other than that these truck will go on for a long long time and are super reliable. Mines never left me stranded, no matter what happened it’s always made it home. That’s because the only thing that’s happened was a spark plug got ejected LOL
Wish this video came out may 2019. I bought a 06 6.0 f350 with 309k. Only 312k on it now and I’ve replaced egr valve, 8 injectors, oil cooler, egr cooler, head gaskets and head studs. Running good now tho...
Funny that you mentioned the 6.0 power stroke, we just finished rebuilding my dad's engine today, it doesn't even have 100k miles yet, still a beautiful truck tho
I am a current 6.0 Powerstroke owner, would not trade it for anything. She got 309k on her and the only thing i did to the engine was replace an injector. And that was at 279k miles. The only mod i did to it was 4 inch turbo back exhaust. When it does die, it will have a place on the farm to rust away in peace. Didnt see any Chevs on the list....LOL!
Ford triton spark plug problems is mainly with the first generation of triton heads, there wasn’t enough threads in the heads to keep spark plugs in the head, they’d seize and out goes the plug, later trucks can have spark plugs stick, but if you stick a bit of copper anti seize on the threads you are good
Just wanna offer advice if you want a 5.4 gasser in a f250 the golden age is early 2005 They still had the 5.4 Windsor And new heads so no spark plug or head problems
