I would totally agree that the price is very high for the wall, but having said that Ive used it in competitive games and have won with it. Yes you can take it out but that shots that are being taken against your other troops, AND! If they leave it alone then you can use it as a obstacle so people cant deepstrike into your deployment zone, Which has come in handy a number of times for me. Im a bit shocked you didn’t talk about using it that way.

That’s what made convergence of dominion usable at the end of 9th for necrons. It was 100pts for 3 models with 12” in between them covering the whole back line against deep strike. Now it’s 255pts and still meh

Yeah was reaaaaally hoping for it to come down to least 100 to take it as a joke. But I can nearly get a whole RUSS at it's price. So still gonna use my box on friendly games, but just as terrain not the unit.

If you cut up some old model boxes into cubes, glue paper to them, put styrafoam inside them, put some plaster on top, with sand onto of that, and then wrap fly mesh around the outside you can have a little HESCO gambion barrier for next to nothing. And you can make a little HESCO defence line.

I don't understand why we can't have cool neutral terrain sets. Having a lascannon or trenchline in the mid field that either player could use is fun. I want fun in my board games. Battle-shocked floor is funny but not necessarily fun.

Strange fact that greatly improves the unit: On most battlefields, the Aegis Line has an effective 1+ save. This is because most terrain grants cover without caring what type of unit is protected (the only exceptions being the two types on page 45). For cover granters, see all the terrain types on pages 46-48 (battlefield debris, statuary, hills, industrial structures, sealed buildings, armoured containers, woods, and ruins). Because of its immense size and its being considered only a single "model", there will always be *some* part of the "model" not fully visible to some member of the firing unit. Thus, against any weapon with an AP of at least -1 (which are the only ones it would really care about), the effective starting save before modification is 1+. Combined with its 12 toughness, this makes it much more durable than its 10 wounds suggest.

The fact a wall has wounds.....why could they just not make it a peace of cover that gives you +2 to your cover/armor saves instead or something like that. But no they had to give it all these dumb pointless gimmicks and rules the bloody thing as a leadership value on a wall!! This is just dumb GW what the hell...

The only way that points cost makes sense is if somewhere in the development phase someone assumed it included (at least) one of the quad autocannon emplacements and then subsequent redrafts or editors assumed it didn't but never questioned the already proposed cost.

At least the aegis can be manned as a wall with that emplacement platform rule. The tau version doesn't get that rule but instead is counted as a transport. It can move 4" though.

It has no use in comp, but for narrative games or stylized games where fortifications are pivotal elements of the game like assaulting defended positions or a seige? That is it's place.

I like the idea of soldiers actually takign effort to put up fortifications and the like. be that barbed wire, quickly deplorable shields, sandbags, or just blowing a fuckign hole into the ground with a spare artillery shell.

I still like the ADL, but then I've always been a Fortifications fan, so I can't talk. At those prices, though, that's a bit steep. Honestly, I've often looked at Fortifications, as a whole, and wanted to just say "let's include some as battle map features, and whoever gets to themcan use them; they don't cost against your list, but then you can't guarantee you'll get to be the one benefiting from it." Dumb side questions, though; can it benefit from Tech-Priests? Can they repair it, like a vehicle, or give it an invul save? Older Guard forces used to have fluff rhings about making the most out of terrain, or setting up impromptu Fortifications, so it could be cool if some stuff interacted with the ADL.

I like the idea of the defense line being destructable. opens up the discussion to terrain in general being destructable (didn't 3rd or 4th edition guard have the ability to blow up a terrain piece?) as an optional rule. I like the scenic imagery in my head of tanks and artillery pieces pounding a skyscraper to reduce it to rubble rather than attempting to storm it.

I mean heavy weapons teams are technically infantry. Create a "mortar pool"😉 with indirect fire. Could help from a out flank while your pushing the center trying to take objectives.

You can use the ADL with scions that deep strike into cover or even use it with 20+ kriegsmen with their ability to hit and wound better then just spawn more back in with medics.

My first games in 10th the ADL was my to go unit. Then I put more Infantry and it helped more just having a second line behind the ones pushing. If the points weren't that expensive, I would still take it. I did took it to a tournament, and it didn't end well. I'm trying now to use it as a last line of defence in base to deny Deep and stop my opponents from taking my last point in turn 5 and therefore win the match.

Nope. Also opponents infantry can't move past it unless they have the fly keyword. They have to destroy it. Only friendly can move over it
