In this video we add to our Stadium Battles series, and the bracket has St Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium vs the Oakland Athletics at the Oakland Coliseum. We will be comparing the stadium interiors, exteriors, and all the different ballpark features. Although one stadium is just way better, (Busch), we're still gonna see why that is, and learn more about good vs bad stadium design!

A nice thing about Busch is also that it is right downtown and there are other fun things to do in the area you can walk to from the stadium.

I feel like fans should factor in on your rankings, all players have said that post season in oakland is a different level. Granted StL fans are no slouch either. Also a key feature of Oakland is that in the outfield above the out of town scoreboards, the railings are out of play which allows for fans to create their own signs and hang them, I dont think any other stadium has this ability. We have lots of unique traits: foul ground, below ground, fan signs, tunnel that connects it to the arena. SELL THE TEAM!

Technically fans don’t play a factor in these rankings but either way, the fan experience elevates all MLB stadiums pretty much equally since when you go to a game it’s not just the baseball, it’s also the social and fun aspect of it. But you’re right, Oakland has some unique fan aspects too which is awesome

Born and raised in St. Louis area. Love Busch Stadium. You'd be doing yourself a major disservice if you don't visit the Cardinals Hall Of Fame and Museum at least once.

The other thing about the Oakland Coliseum. It's in the middle of a very ugly part of Oakland, which itself is a rather ugly part of California.

I actually was about to mention that and include it in the video, but I left that part out because the video was getting lengthy 😁 but yeah, it’s in a bad area as well, not a lot going on around those two stadiums

I live in St. Louis and have been to Busch stadium. The old one and the new one. When it first opened it wasn’t anything special, but they were still adding to it. Ballpark village had been there for years now. Has all the restaurants there. The ballpark museum. Also, I will be bashed, but I think others are overrated. Some are just gimmicky. Why do we need a green giant in left field? Then a 4ft fence 280ft down the right foot line in Fenway? Astro’s is way too hitter friendly down the left field line. Wrigley, I have never been a fan of the Ivy fence. Why have balls get stuck in the Ivy all the damn time? It looks nice. Just doesn’t make sense. Yankees, again the new one is too hitter friendly. The restrictions for ballparks for new ballparks should 330 down both lines and at least 400 down center. If you disagree that’s fine. It is my belief. I respect anyone else’s.
@TheSportingConnoisseur

I feel like since newer ballparks have more information than ever before, they have been designed a bit better such as the new Rangers ballpark, it has pretty fair dimensions, and the new Rogers Centre dimensions are quite uniform and normal. Imo it’s nice that each park has different factors, it makes everything more fun and interesting as a spectator.

It's not a homerun pole. It's a FOUL pole. It's not a "homerun wall". It's an outfield wall!

The concourse/concession area of Busch needs some work. It's dark and drab in there. Plus points off any stadium that doesn't have open concourse so you can still see the field while at concession/etc. But the ball park, exterior and village is terrific
@TheSportingConnoisseur

Honestly concourses can be a really subjective thing, some people like the more dark and drab ones and others like the more modern ones

As an A’s fan sure this stadium won’t win any awards yes it’s bad but it’s not as bad as most think ask anybody that’s been and 8/10 will say it’s nice
@TheSportingConnoisseur

I agree, but the scale I used to rank them was more relative to other MLB stadiums which is why this one is at a 1/10 and 2/10 for the ratings

Additionally, I actually really like the concourse it has a lot of character

I've been, and unfortunately while it's certainly possible for an MLB stadium, I was largely disappointed. Certain parts of the stadium were nice, such as the area under Mt Davis. Funny enough though, I think if Mt Davis wasn't there, it would look much better with the view of the mountains. But yeah, out of the 13 stadiums I've been to, it's the worst. That being said, I enjoyed it much more than a handful of minor league stadiums I have been to, but I think that is to be expected.

OK, Tropicana Field, which sucks, has a bye for some reason, and you call the Cubs' stadium Wrigley Park. And I'm supposed to watch this, take it seriously, and like it? Fuck that. A lot.

@@TheSportingConnoisseur looking at your video it's even more clear why Busch Stadium is one of the best stadiums in baseball. The lines and architecture is extremely clean while embracing the tradition of the city. They've managed to somehow flawlessly incorporate one of the focal points in the city into stadium design with the numerous arch infrastructure points that not only serve as visually good design but also extremely practical. The designers of the stadium also incorporated an amazing skyline view of the city which should always be a thing with baseball stadiums located within cities. Even the way shadows work with the stadium is really well thought out. Edit: Also, St. Louis skyline shows a modern city but it's not huge and looks like the skyline of a ball park located in a minor league city. That adds to its appeal imo.

This is admittedly pedantic… but Major League Baseball is plural. It’s just “MLB” not “The MLB”. Putting “The” before “MLB” is grammatically incorrect
