I would say the bootlegs, basically because bootlegs are not only stupid, they are hardcore-illegal rip offs capitalizing on the success of something for a product, while those commercials are just stupid and are completely legal. Though I think we can all agree that ads that bad should be illegal, and the only ads that can top those are Carl's Jr ads and the Emoji "Movie".

In the UK I used to scream at the TV when the unique British Wii U ads came on. So it wasn't just America. They used Celebs playing it on a sofa. I used to say the average joe DOESN'T KNOW IT'S A NEW CONSOLE! EXPLAIN IT!!!! How was this missed by Marketing

I got a used Wii U with game pad, two pro controllers and 5 games for $120 on Facebook marketplace... I can't see the tv without my contacts in, so Ive been playing the NES Remix pack on the gamepad in bed at night...
I did get a switch, its nice, have 7 games on it, probably get at least one more before the year ends, wii u was and still is far better for me, but I can see the somewhat charm the switch has
Wait. There were Wii U commercials? Seriously, it was so rare to ever see them I never remember them. Except two of them. One when the Wii U first came out and another one for Paper Mario Color Splash I saw a lot as I was working for a third party in Target at the time and as I was in the electronics' section, the ads would repeat over and over.

the Amiibo one seems like it's a Disney original or a Family channel skit with no laugh, boo, aww, or cheer sound effects. "DK's in, this is gonna be bananas." Also they thought that using popular Disney channel/famous people would make them popular.

Family time was the stupidest marketing gimmick with the Wii U because most people who have family time didn't play Wii U, they just played whatever other console they had together with 1-2 games on the original Wii (coz they thought Wii U was another Wii thanks to bad marketing), the kids played Minecraft and COD(at the time as Fortnite wasn't out yet), and the rest just streamed on the console movies and shows probably. Shock and horror, they probably did other family things too. How many were 'gamilies'? Wii U was for dedicated Nintendo fans who, despite the other options, still believed and enjoyed what it had. It wasn't because of the commercials though, it's because they actually looked it all up themselves on different social media channels. Kids who wanted a Wii U though saw Mario or Minecraft probably ,never owned a console, weren't allowed Xbox or Playstation and needed the cheaper option allowed by parents.
Yo, I remember first discovering "Lagoon" for the Super Nintendo on January 7, 2020. Which ConnerTheWaffle uploaded his "Worst Wii U Commercials" video on the very same day. LOL I immediately fell in love with "Lagoon's" soundtrack and castle dungeon layouts. The first song that I listened to in "Lagoon" was from "Phillip's Castle" as well.
