Hey, this is my town. I was there. No electricity for a week, water was scarce for months, mosquitoes would cover you from head to toe after just a few days. It took more than a month to get back on track, and also the communities inland have been deeply affected by the amount of rain. It was insane, first hurricane in my life. Honestly not a great feeling when it's your town and all of your family and friends live there, have businesses there, have been working hard for years and years to build their own thing to see it smashed in 2 hours. Maybe the most beautiful thing was to watch the entire land go as green as we have never seen in two weeks. Thanks for the video, gave me the chills. Kinda triggered right now. I landed on this video because there's now a 90% chance of formation right in the same spot Agatha formed last year, so we're kinda holding our breath here. Really don't wanna live it all over again.
Thanks for this note. This hurricane surprised me-- was much stronger than I expected. It sounds like the recovery was tough! I am glad you made it through, and that things are better now. You'll be pleased to know that the thing that's forming offshore now shouldn't be a problem for you guys down in Oaxaca.
@@iCyclonehow come? It's forming exactly in the same spot and although the storm is moving fast, last year the storm passed Oaxaca and then when the hurricane formed it came right back to us. I'm curious because after last year I am kinda fascinated by hurricanes now and would love to know more.
@@CristinaBuono-t2t Just because a storm is in the same spot as a previous one doesn't mean it will move in the same direction or develop the same way. Every system is unique. This one (which will be named HILARY) is not coming near Oaxaca. Follow me on Twitter or Facebook (@iCyclone) if you're interested in the meteorological side-- I talk about that stuff more there. Here are just talk about my videos, mostly.
This video is absolutely INSANE!!! From the short clip you had shared a while back I knew Agatha would be good… but I wasn’t expecting it to be THAT incredible! Those winds are unbelievable, and definitely look stronger than the official landfall intensity! And your videography is amazing, as always! The location and shots are all on point, and capture the hurricane’s violence perfectly! This video is easily among my all-time favorites from your extensive portfolio of chases!!!
Michael, thanks so much! I am always so flattered to get feedback like this from you because 1) you are *the* connoisseur of hurricane footage and 2) your edits are always so gorgeous. I am excited that you think it's one of my best, because I put a lot of work into it. So, big, big thanks. Re: the storm's landfall intensity... I hate to doubt the experts, but it was weirdly intense for a presumed 90-knot hurricane. Let's just say it was BY FAR the most intense Cat 2 I've been in. 😀
Wow Josh, that was WAY more intense then I expected. Such an awesome job on your part. You can feel your passion in this video. Must have been one hell of a rush when it kept getting intense. Pure whiteout conditions. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
How in the world was Agatha only a Cat 2?? She looks like a Cat 5+! That is the most intense hurricane wind I have ever seen. The sound is particularly effective and ideal here. Great chase, shooting commitment, commentary, and production as usual, Josh!
Man, it was relaxing to hear Agatha's wind sound through the video, but let's face it, despite being a cat 2, Agatha behaved very badly lol. The palm trees and daylight along with the beach vibes always match with a good hurricane and plus your footage was phenomenal. Thanks for sharing with us 😁
Love your videos, Josh. I'm glad you always find a good spot to film with something in the background to help reference the intensity of the wind. Crazy to watch
I went through a Cat 2 in Florida 2004. This was way more intense than what I went through. I know there are wind speed variations within the Cat 2 category parameters but, I think the NOAA "done made a mistake."
Great location and a high quality storm for this chase! This one in particular had very consistent, sustained winds at the peak, and A LOT of rainfall. It seems to be a common theme for Mexican EPAC hurricanes being very compact, and more intense on the ground than official estimates suggest.
Josh, that was intense. Total respect for what you do. Seeing the look on your face during the height of the storm was...intense. Great video (love the commentary on the transition screens, too, lol)!
Ha ha, glad you liked the commentary and the humor. I wasn't sure how to handle that stuff and what to include. I was sort of... experimenting. Thank you, Marcy.
That's what i love about cyclones! Everyone has it's own asmr sound. White out conditions. Watching this Agatha felt one category higher than offical. Like Odile, Maria...and Roslyn.
I'm starting to think that Eastern Pacific hurricanes get underestimated quite frequently, no way this is a Cat 2 lanfall, seemed much stronger than Idalia's Cat 3 landfall for example 😅
I LOVE your show. Question from me. A very recent cyclone involved an eye passing over friends and family ....they all commented that in the stillness of the eye, the smell was rank. It smelled of off fish....obviously the cyclone had travelled over a lot of water. Is this common and what would be the reasoning of the fish smell...or really strong odour in the eye of the storm ?
You are amazing how you track all those storms down like that, especially with estimating where the storm will strike! You also inspired me to storm chase in a few years, as well as you also inspiring me to start studying meteorology, I've been with your videos since 2020. P.S. I also think Agatha should have been a Cat. 3, even though the NHC says it still is a mid-end Category 2 in 1-minute sustained winds!
Wow, I am so honored to have inspired you. Thanks so much for letting me know this-- it means a lot to me. 👊 P.S. Make sure that when you start chasing, you do it safely.
Poor you, he had you up and down 😅, Very good work and tour, and not to mention the video that was 10, you will always have the doors open to beautiful Mexico ❤️❤️
lol Agatha yes it was very intense, I think this is one of your best videos without a doubt, I hope the people affected are well, great video, wait for the others
Another great one man, My favorite part: These chases separate the men from the boys Oh gosh do I ever know that feeling 🤣hahaha thanks for creating content, making me smile and something that many maybe don't realize, so a huge thank you for embracing the risk of dangerous meteorological conditions for all of us. Great work again man!
This comment made me smile, so thanks for that. 🙂 I am glad you found my mid-chase thoughts entertaining. 😃 And I am glad you enjoyed the video so much.
That part where you were standing by that broken window was like a scene from the wizard of Oz. Lol! I would have would been in the corner making sure everything was ok with me and the Lord. That was crazy for sure!!!!
Wow, kinda hard to believe this was only a cat 2, do you think it will be upgraded to a cat 3 in the post-season analysis? 🌀 Great footage as always 👌📸
Thanks so much! I was surprised how intense it was, and like you, I'm vaguely dissatisfied by its classification as a Cat 2. Postanalysis has been completed on this one, and there was no upgrade-- not even 5 knots! Grrrrr. 😀 P.S. Here's the NHC's report: www.nhc.noaa.gov/data/tcr/EP012022_Agatha.pdf
It's interesting how hardy palm trees are. You can see how the leaves just fold away from the wind. This minimises the resistance of the tree to the wind and so it survives.
🌴🎥 Hi I enjoy watching every hurricane/cyclone or Typhoon you chase. I think I enjoy the Mexico hurricanes the best and your commitment on getting in the core of the thing. Amazing and wish I was there to enjoy the ride, a dream job or hobby, I will chase a hurricane this year. Take care buddy I enjoy every storm you chase buddy. Stay safe 🏴👍🏽🌴🎥✈️
@@iCyclone Cheer’s for the reply. I dig all your videos and going back years before Hurricane man. Ever since I lived through a big storm in Sussex UK in 1997, (our Hurricane) I was 8 and I looked out of my window out at corn fields, when the fields we’re lit up with the flashing of lighting I witnessed twin twisters 🌪 very small but fast moving across fast in a straight line. Every flash they moved far. I didn’t know what I was seeing at the time and what I was hearing with the wind, and the power was out so got straight back to bed. Until I learned at school and then the movie twister ten years later I understand what I see that night. I’ve been obsessed with storms ever since and the science, I love weather maps and models and watch live stream’s but I got to experience for real. Hurricane first as I can jump on a plane ✈️ 24 hour’s before landfall in a southern state and next world be the Philippines maybe. Anyway sorry for holding you up, you do bring the experience onto our screens and I appreciate that and the beautiful places you go to chase which been selected by the storm. Cheers buddy 🇬🇧 🇺🇸👍🏽
That was vicious! What are you feeling in the middle of a storm like that? It must be exhilarating but do get scared too? I’m surprised you stayed so close to the water because of the storm surge.
Thanks-- glad you liked the video! In those situations, I have a weird mix of emotions-- kind of pleasure and fear and excitement and wonderment all at the same time. I think it's why I do this-- for that strange combination of feelings that I don't feel at any other times. You've gotten me into a philosophical state of mind about all this...
Muchas gracias, Omar! I'm really glad you enjoy my channel so much. Nice to hear from you-- I didn't know I had followers in Cuba! Very cool. P.S. I am a fan of hurricanes, too, so I understand.😀
@@iCyclone I come from a part of the world where weather like this is pretty common, and this definitely doesn't look like a cat 2. Glad you made it out in one piece. Incredible footage!
Oaxacacane 😀. Josh, this video and the quality of your filming is fantastic! AGATHA was nuts! Cat 2?! Those whiteout conditions from the second floor (you are semi-nuts too - in the nicest possible way!) reminded me a bit of DORIAN. Your footage clearly showed the intensification around 3.30pm. I still love your shots where the spray is curving over the broken window pane, definitely one of my favs of 2022. What happened at 3.47pm, was that when the door decided to take flight? I'm really enjoying this longer format of your chase accounts, Josh, I imagine it's a lot more work for you, so thank you. It does highlight the torment you go through to nail the eye. Your "Circling" section made me laugh a lot..."Lol. Nope." 😂 (I guess you and Erik weren't laughing at the time!) I saved this until I could savour it on the big screen, well worth it 🙂. Thanks for always sharing your experiences with us.
Lois! Your commentary, as always, is so thoughtful. Thank you. And I loooooooove that you saved this for the big screen-- because that is the way to watch a hurricane. ❤ I can't remember exactly what happened at 3:47 pm. I think it all just got a little out of control. I was on that second level without guardrails, and I could no longer see what was going on. Everything just got kind of... crazy. Thanks, especially, for the feedback about the Circling chapter. That was the most experimental part of this video, and I was having trouble deciding how to approach it and what to include-- so I'm glad to know it amused you. 😀 But, yeah, I decided to start including that stuff in these videos so folks can see what happens on a chase behind the scenes-- how much thinking and driving (and obsessing) goes into getting into position. Anyhoo, thanks so much for noticing all these details-- it makes the time I spend working on these videos worth it. 👊
The footage from those storms is no better than my ROSLYN and AGATHA footage. ROSLYN and AGATHA were not "appetizers"-- they are my best work of the season.
@@iCyclone Roslyn and Agatha were intense uff prime time on RU-vid 🔥 those videos make me bored. oh yes, what a menu, the next dessert Lisa and Orlene to eat has been said 😉😎 #inside the hurricane
I know it was already brought up in the comments, but this is seriously only 105-110mph winds CAT 2!? That’s crazy for a non major hurricane. Looks like a 4/5.
Is the shot at 18:49 there on purpose? It's pretty distracting to be enthralled in the storm then a random shot of your mouth comes up for a few seconds.
I don't mean to sound rude. I hope my comment doesn't come off that way. I frequently rewatch this video. For some reason hurricanes are calming to me.
When I saw this video and when you said that Hurricane Agatha was going to be category 2 at landfall I thought that Agatha might behave like Hurricane Delta cause Hurricane delta was a category 2 storm the wind was strong but it did little damage but this video I was so wrong Hurricane Agatha has proven that it was much stronger than a category 2
OK honestly I seriously thought that Hurricane Agatha will be a weak hurricane at landfall the winds don't seem like it was a category 2 it felt more intense for just a category 2 hurricane
@@iCyclone i feel most people like you and most famous people in the business like Jim Cantore went to Punta Gorda for Ian. Crazy how the storm was the exact strength as Charley and took the same track after turning away from Tampa.
