The Wreck of IJN Wakatsuki - A Shattered Mess on The Bottom

Some shipwrecks are pretty recognizable. Others are almost perfectly preserved. And some are...well, some are completely ruined. Scattered debris, with pieces fallen off and the hull broken.
Wakatsuki, an Akizuki-class destroyer, qualifies as the latter. This is not a pretty wreck. This is a ship that shows every bit how violent her sinking was, for better or worse.
Still, I think it's an interesting wreck to look at.

You know, I generally try to bite my lip on this. But if people waited five seconds before eviscerating me on my pronunciation: I always, *always*, look up pronunciations. The way I say it is the way I got it when doing so. It’s the same as Akatsuki. That’s not Aka-tsuki. It’s Akat-ski. Maybe there’s a little bit of the ‘u’ in there, but my ears don’t hear it. forvo.com/search/akatsuki/

I stopped your video at 1:14 because I got annoyed with your pronunciation. I went to read comments, found yours, checked the pronunciation - and, shit, you are right. I was doing it wrong for so many years. Thanks, dude. I'm gonna go enjoy the rest of your vid now.

I kinda go either direction on this. Yes, the pronunciation is correct upon investigation. BUT, I was wondering how a Japanese ship obtained a Polish name when the video began.

You can never have enough RED ARROWS. They are a huge help in understanding what I'm looking at. Thank you for using them!

Incredible damage, these sailors didnt know what happened when it blew up and sank. The amount of damage to the prop shaft is massive. For the explosion to do this much damage is insane.

A real tragedy that there is very scarce examples of IJN shipwrecks that are anywhere close to intact. Probably a good metaphor telling how apocalyptic WW2 was for big 3 of the Axis

Yeah, it's a coin toss between Shimakaze and Wakatsuki as to who earns the dubious title of Ormoc Bay's Worst Wreck...

Although Wakatsuki would appear to be pronounced in Japanese as wAh-kat-su-ki (phonetically)and not wAh-cot-ski,which phonetically sounds Eastern European, that is actually the correct pronunciation. WAH-COT-SKI.😌

Isn't that a propeller hub and part of the blades but buried in silt just below the end of the shaft?

Correct me if I'm wrong but the name of the ship is Wakatsuki, not wakatski. You sound like you're giving it a Polish pronunciation.

I believe Skynea is actually pronouncing it correctly. I follow a Japanese musician online, and she has two women in her band, Hatsuki and Mitsuki. She pronounced their names as "HAHT-ski" and "MIT-ski." The "u" in their names is silent.

this isn’t true, actually- in japanese, you devoice the vowels u and i between unvoiced consonants like s and k, so the pronunciation he uses is pretty much as accurate as you get with an english accent/the name being spoken in an english context

That “U” isn’t really pronounced in Japanese in this case

Now how are they gonna find more ships if they sold the rv petrol. My dads sub is never going to be found from the lost 52 like what the was paid to go do. How could they do this and sell the rv petrol. How ever it’s spelled.
