When I heard the news, I just had to listen to THIS song several times. R.I.P. Gordon Lightfoot. Thank you for your priceless contributions to music. 🇺🇸🤜🤛🇨🇦
Gordon's amazing music has always been one of my favorites. He was a truly amazing songwriter and artist. I was fortunate to see him live at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. It was an amazing show! Rest in Peace Gordon....
@@MegaMr46 That was very special. Gordon got very close to Ruth Hudson, Bruce Hudson's mother. She mourned Bruce until the day she died. He was only 22 years old. May they all rest in peace, including Gordon.
My hats off to all 29 men who perished on November 10th 1975. May all 29 of her crew rest in peace, and God watch over the families of the crew. 😭😭 ✌🙏🇺🇸💔💔
The Maritime Sailors Cathedral annually rings their bells 29 times for the crew of the Edmond Fitzgerald. The year Lightfoot passed they rang the bells once more to make 30 to honor the man who remembered the Big Fitz's crew.
It's fitting I'd wind up here after watching Rick Beato's tribute. The last times I was listening to this song, I was learning it on piano and using this video as a guide. I always liked Gordon's arrangements and chord phrasings. A lot of his stuff came out when I was young, but I knew it was good stuff, even back then. You will be missed.
This song was my reintroduction to GL. I remember his songs long before, I was still a baby. They were tunes I caught here and there in the background of my early childhood. This song in particular deeply resonates with me in all my musical sensibilities because it’s everything great music ought to be. Melodic, tells a story, and conveys something even deeper than the music alone and in and of itself could ever possibly reach. God bless Gordon Lightfoot, his muse and inspiration, and his trailblazing voice for aspiring artists.
Listening to The Edmond, gently guides me to the great lakes culture, the sounds, smells, sights, seasons, history, and the people, from the Chippewa on down.
One of the best singer-songwriters of all time. A very powerful song. It was so sad to hear of the passing of this legend. Rip Gordon....missed but never forgotten. 🇨🇦❤
The reason why I really wanted to understand English in the 1970s was because of the lyrics of Pink Floyd, Donovan and Gordon Lightfoot. It was the beginning of a long friendship. RIP my friend, dear Gordon
I remember hearing this song when I was very young and didn't come to appreciate it until 20++. I humbly apologize to all those who lost their lives and the ones left behind, please forgive me. Bless and R.I.P to the lost at sea. I'll carry and appreciate this song forever.
To this very day this song touches my heart. If I remember correctly this tragedy occurred around 1978? (Correct me if I am wrong). This song is so beautiful and meaningful - especially to the families that lost a loved one. Gordon Lightfoot is an honorable man for donating all proceeds to the families. ❤❤❤
Im a baby boomer i grew up listening to rock and roll, country, country rock , it was all good music it will never be like that again live bands, keg parties ,hog roasts every weekend there was a party some where if not you had one everyone invited always good music good food good times no cops if there was they were there to join always a hell of a good time never see those days over i miss those now days people lock there doors stay home worry about getting shot or going to jail i grew up when there were rules not laws and USA was a free country now days people dont know what that means
i WAS LUCKY TO SEE GORDON LIGHTFOOT 1971 AND 1972 AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL LONDON PERFECTION .I STILL PLAY IS MUSIC .HE IS THE BEST SINGER SONG WRITER THAT EVER WALKED THIS EARTH
Rip. Gordon And it would only be fitting that today and tomorrow Lake Superior has some of the same waves and is very stormy like it was when the Edmonds Fitzgerald went down! 15 to 20 ft waves on it tonight May 1st, 2023.
Totally playable on standard tuning without a capo. I just prefer not to use Capo's because they eat frets. Regardless, this is one of the most amazing songs ever written. It shows you can use four chords and have the lyrics make the emotions come fourth with a message.
Nothing like that jangly 12 string to season out this fantastic song. I heard on it The Black List and wanted to re visit it. This vid is the best I've seen on ANY song for the chords sand lyrics to follow along . Thanks for it
Come November 10th, the Maritime's Sailors Cathedral in Detroit will not only toll the Church bell 29 times, they'll add on one more for Gordon Lightfoot
"At 7 PM a main hatchway caved in" was later changed to "at 7 PM it grew dark it was then" however Gordon never re-recorded the song after he updated the lyric (it was updated because the original lyric turned out to be inaccurate.)
Gordon payed tribute to those brave souls who make their living on the restless and sometimes a defiant Lake Superior like this waterway had no respect for this ship or crew .
