What a fantastic panel. It's hard to find information on the workings of writers rooms, and us baby writers need to know what we're getting ourselves into! Thanks for sharing this video.
Wonderful panel and very funny anecdotes, but nothing about how the Writers Room ACTUALLY WORKS! Do they toss around ideas, then each of them does a first draft of 1/2 scripts? Do they ALL write each script in the room all together? Does the Showrunner allocate scripts on the basis -- 1: Character A main story, B&D 2ndry story; 2: E main, F 2ndry ... etc. THEN do they ALL work on 2nd draft or original writer incorporate comments? See what I mean? I want the ACTUAL mechanics!!!
Literally none of that is how it works. They don't write the scripts together. They pitch stories together, a lot of rooms work on a outline, and they work on punching up scripts as they're coming in, but scripts are divided up, and I've heard 2 weeks is given to the writer who's off writing, but I'm sure it's not set in stone. I think often it's who pitched it, but maybe someone else. Showrunners will do notes and passes, but it's frowned on to take a credit most of the time cuz they're getting paid big bucks to do those passes.
