THE WRONG USE OF OLIVE OIL

There is a difference between the Holy Oils (Oil of the Catechumen, Holy Chrism, oil of the sick) that are blessed and consecrated at the Chrism Mass yearly. The Holy oils are reserved for use only by Priests and Bishops. However blessed/exorcised oil is a Sacramental like Holy water, blessed/exorcised salt and is in the Roman ritual (the book of rites for Priests/Bishops to use). Blessed oil is for the use of the laity but the Roman ritual makes it clear that if a member of the laity uses it on another they must make it clear they are not using it in the same way as a Priest/Bishop uses the Holy Oils and instead they are using it as a sacramental like holy water, blessed/exorcised salt along with prayers asking God to work through it. The Roman ritual is clear that it is forbidden for anyone to use blessed oil for anointing. Like all sacramentals they are not superstitious and must be used with faith and prayer. I will point out that anyone who sells an item with a blessing on it is committing the sin of simony. The catechism: “Simony is defined as the buying or selling of spiritual things. To Simon the magician, who wanted to buy the spiritual power he saw at work in the apostles, St. Peter responded: "Your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain God's gift with money!" Peter thus held to the words of Jesus: "You received without pay, give without pay. It is impossible to appropriate to oneself spiritual goods and behave toward them as their owner or master, for they have their source in God. One can receive them only from him, without payment.”” (CCC 2121) Code of Canon Law: “ A person who through simony celebrates or receives a sacrament is to be punished with an interdict or suspension or the penalties mentioned in can. 1336 §§ 2-4.” (Canon 1380) prohibits simony (the selling or buying of ‘blessed’ items) and state clearly canonical punishment is due. The church has always taught that any blessing on an item is removed by God when money is exchanged for the item so people who think they are buying a blessed item don’t actually have a blessed item and require a Priest to bless it again.

I have always use this olive oil for cooking only, people are putting this on themselves, well maybe they think it's gotta make them smell nice and make their skin shiny, people do strange things to get attention 🇺🇸🤷
