I learned a lot of "Spanish" on the streets from Mexicans. I took Spanish classes in school, but it's proper Spanish. People from Mexico/central America speak their own slang. Some thought I was trying to be above them when I spoke the Spain type spanish.

I feel you man. I was born in VN but lived most of my life in the west. Every time I go back the locals have a hard time understanding my Vietnamese and I have a hard time understanding their English. It helps to have a friend to interpret.

I'm learning Vietnamese and my tutor recommended your RU-vid channel to me. This video got a good hearty chuckle out of me. I love your sense of humour. And yes, the tone is the hardest part, today I learned in our lesson what the difference between "deo" and "đéo" is, because guess which one I used by mistake? And I agree, getting a tutor is a really good idea, I was using language apps before and found there's a lot they don't actually teach you and of course I pick up lessons on culture and how people tend to use certain words and phrases I wouldn't get out of other methods of learning...and of course the immediate feedback and corrections is super useful because with tone and pronunciation I think there's sounds in English we make and how we use tone is not noticeable to us. I'm probably a breathy speaker, so I have to control that if I want to say "Tôi" instead of "Thôi" and I would never get that kind of feedback without a tutor.

Yes, a Tutor is definitely the way to go! I appreciate the fact that some tutors are recommending my channel. I know my voice isn’t perfect, but I’m glad others can use my channel to learn a little bit. It’s all about consistency, I saw the most growth in my language skills when I stayed consistent with my tutor, and obviously motivation plays a big factor. I have more videos out in the future teaching common slang and phrases, so make sure to stay tuned!

@@phucmapvlog Yeah, I was looking for stuff to watch that helps me get better at listening to Southern Vietnamese because I have very little exposure to it. And how you've structured your videos I think makes it easier to follow for somebody who is learning Vietnamese and I have picked up a couple of words already. And I'll keep an eye out for those videos, I love slang. You're spot on about tutors and motivation, not only are they effective (especially if you have a native speaker) but you end up looking forward to the sessions and not wanting to miss out...or let your tutor down.

BTW, I know Westerners can be offended by nicknames given to them, but oft times the names are more endearing than anything else. I remember growing up with beautiful twin girls where one was nicknamed fat (because she was chunkier as a baby) and one was named skinny. That's what we called them growing up and no one ever took it as anything but cute nicknames. Americans are WAY more self-conscious and easily hurt/offended about things like that whereas Vietnamese folks are more light hearted about it (those whom name you that way and those whom are named that way. :)

I'm learning now, It's so hard, but will for sure get a tutor. My wife is Vietnamese and it's not the same as her telling me, I need structure and someone who knows how to teach to get the fundamentals. It's funny how you can say something slightly different and it can mean something so wrong, I have done that many times now. Looking forward to going to Saigon for a few months in July. Mình thấy những video này của anh Phúc Mập rất hữu ích và có ý nghĩa. Âm lượng của anh Phúc Mập rất ấm, phù hợp những video kiểu học thuật như vầy. Kiểu những video chuyên gia. Hơn là những video troll, ko mang lại giá trị sau khi xem. Đồng ý rằng mang lại tiếng cười nhưng ko thấm lại bài học. Thì người xem chỉ ghé lại vài lần, rồi quên luôn. OMG i laughed until i choked. I'm surprised that this video didn't get a few million views already. The guy played the tutor: he was good. To this date i never say the word crab out loud, am afraid the ending sound didn't come out right😊. If i want crab cake for appertizer i just... point😊😊 ... ... Be proud of the Southern accent, it’s more difficult than the North

The southern accent is easier to pronounce since some sounds are merged. For example, "an" and "ang" are pronounced the same. However, the tradeoff obviously is that you would have to put more efforts to memorize the spellings. As phonetic as Vietnamese generally is, both northern and southern accents have some exceptions, but they're nowhere close to English.

💥👌 04:35 Hilarious💥 I speak both languages fluently. So here is a tip to all. English is a liaison language. Every word in a sentence connects as a flow. Vietnamese is a tonal language and mostly single syllable. Every word and every syllable are pronounced separately! That is why Americans sound different when they speak Vietnamese. Vietnamese people sound choppy when they speak English. Also, English you speak with the jaw while Vietnamese speak with the lips. You also covered translation between languages which is funny and entertainment. However when you learn a new language, try not to translate because it will cause the accent and the unnatural flow of the language. In addition, when you can visualize and master it, over time you will think in that language which is a superb skill. PM, I like the fact that you covered to learn the language of the locals. There is another RU-vid in Vietnam who is full of himself and said that learning Vietnamese is not necessary. It is like saying no need to learn English in America. The only words he knows are "troi oi" which I am sure is a copy cat from Dustin. There are several parts that are funny in this video. Your sister-n-law is cute.

@@phucmapvlog this video is different from the rest of the other RU-vidrs in Vietnam. Why? Like I have always shared, you are at a different level because you don't have xenophobia and willing to respect others. Currently, no other RU-vidrs could have done or pull this off because they have not comprehend both cultures and languages, for the exceptions of maybe Chris and AfroViet. Your personality came up with the creativity of this video and I can see a series of these from you. Very smart, clever and intelligent!😄

@@phucmapvlog I can tell the person who is playing the tutor can speak both languages well. I am interested to know is he a Viet Kieu or a local? If I have to guess, probably Viet Kieu right? "What the Pho" girl is pretty impressive too, for a local Vietnamese to pickup on English, staying in America for 7 years. 👍
