That picture of the Lee Grant tank makes me think how my father and his tank crew were killed 4/29/1944 in the battle at Kohima. sadly he never got to see me. And I never got to see him, he is buries in the Kohima cemetery.

I visited Kohima cemetery, it was quite unforgettable, very sad what we put our soldiers through. On both sides.

@@Bullet-Tooth-Tony- yes, it was not a one day affair, but a protracted slug fest which went on for more than 2 months.

My neighbor was there at Jessami and the retreat back to Kohima in the 1st Assam Regiment. He got a job as a teacher after that. Amazingly even his grandchildren didn't know about his service. It was only after an Indian govt. survey that we came to know it from him

We thank the British and the Americans for bringing Christianity and education but even though our grandparents submitted to you in the hopes that we can go along after fierce resistance, we trusted the British that they will heed our words to be an Independent nation as how we were from the beginning before the British came but this was betrayed and we were left under the Indians without our consent so till now our lands are still suffering because of political struggle for the past century after the British left your colony without settling your own people (as subject to the queen) and we had to fend for wars with the Indians and now we are part of India which was never historical or democratically part of rather then a forced or imposed choice!!

Nagas would have been a Free People but the Whites left India in Hurry and left us at the mercy of the Indians but I don't Blame them. They went Bankrupt after the WW-II. They couldn't support their Military in the Colonies nor afford another War 🤪

Really? Nagas? What about the over 200 Mizos from Assam Regiment who fought at Jessami,Kharasom and Kohima? My grandpa went all the way to Mandalay and all he said was the unity of British/Indian forces and the porters recruited from all over Northeast(incl. Nagas) that did it. Just coz it was fought in Naga territory doesn't mean Nagas alone did it. Remember they were Japanese, they were the worst, not something that we mere tribals could defeat.
