The final scene from The X-Files episode "Closure" (Season 7, Episode 11. Aired Feb 13, 2000).
Fox Mulder has spent much of his life searching for his sister, Samantha, and his efforts have become a major part of his character arc. Mulder believes his sister was abducted by extra-terrestrials when they were both children, and he has felt the gravity of guilt for his inability to stop her from being taken. Using his FBI resources and his determination, he tirelessly followed leads and clues which he believed would bring him closer to the truth.
The final scene in this episode served as the culmination of his efforts and the conclusion of his journey to find her, and the truth wasn't what Mulder expected. Samantha's fate, as sad as it was, provided a sense of closure for Mulder, and even though she was no longer among the living, he was comforted by the fact that she was safe and that no one could hurt her again. Mulder's revelation about her abduction highlighted the sad truth that her captors were very much human...
This is my all-time favorite scene from the X-Files series. This sequence evoked strong emotions from within me, and when coupled with the beautiful cinematography, and David Duchovny's brilliant performance, it was a very satisfying conclusion, but what really tied it all together was the inclusion of the song "My Weakness" by Moby. I can't think of a more perfect song for such an emotional scene.
I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do!
(I performed a small edit in order to remove the scene with Harold Piller, because I felt that it kind of punctuated the mood and tone. I did my best to line up the music, so the edit is hardly noticeable.)
