I think they should give you a permanent loan of the new gain. I bought my D40 because of your videos , its free advertising for them. Good luck with it Mr Yako
You have arrived Yako!!! Orbrea has recognized you as a important promoter of their products...nice invite to their home office...now if they only give you a bike to ride at home only way to truly give a proper review is to ride it over time on your home roads... congratulations 👏.
fingers crossed! I was first invited, then uninvited, then the author of the Orbea Gain Owners Club on FB re-invited me…but really looking forward to it!
Sadly I was too ill to go! Very upsetting at the time, but Orbea have since sent me a couple of ebikes to try out for a month or so each, the Rise, and now the Kemen, which is great!
For sure they should lend you one. It’s the real-life long term usage videos like yours that help people like myself choose a bike. I’ve been looking at the Gain for a while now but knew the X20 was coming out soon and lo and behold up pops your video! Can’t wait to get your opinion of it.
oh it’s coming! Pretty excited myself! I already like the assist level changers on the bars and the easier wheel changing, but this AI learning concept is crazy. It’s suggested it could recognise the rider from the way they ride and adjust accordingly. I’m used to sci-fi being in space, not on a bike. I need to see if it’s real. Then let you know.
Just went to their web site and they are certainly beautiful bikes. I originally wanted an Orbea, even went to a dealer in Tucson to order an M30. They told me that Orbea deliveries to the USA are not good. They had only received 6 new bikes last year, all MTBs. He told me if I wanted the M30 or even the D30 I would have to expect a 9 month wait. I then found my LOOK e765 and have been pleased with it.
I’m on a FB group for Gain owners. There is one poor chap who, in response to people posting their ‘new bike day’ photos always writes ‘still waiting for mine’. In Orbea’s defence there is a global supply issue affecting the whole industry…
Hello, so excited for you. What a new challenge, we all need them. I have watched your previous clips with your present bike with interest. I have been thinking of getting a rear hub pedal assist, Arthiritus. The x20 sounds good. Happy travels.
That will be a great couple of days Gareth and it will make a great video. The ride back on the New Gain would be fab, great idea and opportunity to promote the new Gain, come on Orbea…. Good luck and I look forward to it seeing the videos. Be interesting to see the difference in the motors power output in real world conditions. 👍
I agree with all of that Jason! (Though I think it will take me a couple of days just to get out of the mountains…). Fingers crossed…not too much coming out of Orbea at the mo about the loaner but it must be a hectic time for them.
Yako you have been praising your orbea bike from the first ride even though it wasn’t new, I bought one just from watching your videos, You are just the man that orbea should sponsor both road and gravel , see what happens,,all the best jim.
Jim, thank you. I know I have your support on this little venture of a channel, and I’m very glad you bought a Gain. I apologise for putting temptation in your way with this one, but frankly, the old one works so well!
Thanks a lot! I did not think there was anything that would temp me to consider a new bike given that I am riding a 2021 Gain M20. Thanks, and I hope you have a great time at Orbea.
@@yakoridesagain The bike works GREAT! I live/ride in the San Francisco Bay area. I also ride in the Wine Country at every opportunity. I am 76 and have been riding for more than 35 years. I have set the assist levels at 70, 140 and 200 watts. I am able to do sustained climbs like the climb (3200 feet in 13 miles) up Mt. Diablo using the 140 watt assist for most of the climb. The range varies depending upon the landscape. Up Mt. Diablo days I have a range of about 35 miles. Rolling countryside I have a range of about 60 miles. Thanks for your videos.
With out doubt Orbrea should take you up on your promotional offer. Would make for exceptional viewing, a 500 mile plus journey on a eBike, what manufacturer wouldn't want that kind of worth advertising their products. Hope it works out, can't wait to see the footage...............
This is definitely my next bike, I’ve been looking at the Gains for some time now. I don’t need n+1 yet but I might crack before the end of the year. Great video, more temped now that I was a few minutes ago. By the way, torque isn’t the same as power. Power is torque x cadence (rpm). It will mean that at low speed, e.g. pulling away it will seem less powerful and also going up a hill too. Given e-bikes are limited in top speed (for assist) then it will result in less power assuming other variable don’t kick in first. Oh and yes, of course they should loan you one, I’m looking forward to the report.
You are the perfect match to be an ambassador for this new bike and the 600Km ride is a brilliant idea. Can't wait to watch it - Orbea are you reading this? BTW do they do socks?
Excellent video, wait to seeing your unbiased review as always on your return. A freebie would be nice to ride home on, but can't actually see it. Enjoy the rest of your week.
This looks interesting and I agree about the advertising. Just who do they think buys these bikes? I know the riders look good, but I suepect that their buyers are not in their 30's and look like pro riders. Surely someone in the late 50's or 60's would be a good bet? Absolutely they should lend you a new Gain to bikepack. You would be able to show the value of the bike and test it properly. Even better, they would send a crew to video it so they could make the quality amazing. Congratulations on being chosen for this - you deserve it.
Sniff…what are you saying about the quality of my vids Neil? Is a €150/free to me cam not good enough? Lol I’d love all the kit to make gorgeous vids, and I’d love a support team to bring me espresso’s hourly if THEY were shooting! But seriously, yes. I love my bike, and I hope I’m not risking my factory visit, but Orbea needed to have older and chubbier faces of joy in their vid. We buyers are wiser than that…we need old, grizzled fit as flea riders to show us who we want to be riding our Gains, not kids.
@@yakoridesagain your videos are wonderful and the sweet spot for YT. I just thought their many faces of joy budget may stretch to promotional material.
@@yakoridesagain as a side note, I was more than disappointed to see those lights still there. Putting a Varia and a proper front light that is useful for night riding would have been better.
Mate I hoped you knew I was joking - you have been a staunch and valued supporter…but I have been getting blowback already about the ‘many faces of joy’ campaign…
You need the US version! I don’t find it that much of a hindrance John, it doesn’t take too much effort to go above the assist cut-off, and of course you’ll be fitter for it…and the assist is there when you need it, into headwinds and on hills.
I'm riding a 2022 M20 and love it, but am excited to see your review of the new model. I really want to see what you think of it as you ride one home from the Orbea UQ. So, Orbea....Loan him one!! I want to see what real riders think of it!
It's all very exciting Yako. How will you charge the bike on the way back? 🤔 Either way they would be missing a trick by not lending you a bike. What great publicity. 👍
Great stuff, hope they lend you a bike. I did the same thing, rode my Gain back from the shop. OK it was only 22 miles but that was double my longest ride at the time so it felt like an epic adventure to me lol! I love look of the thing and the assist buttons on the bars, don't like the fact they've not included mudguard lugs again, and I'm not sure about this claim of 55nm. Seems a little disingenuous to me, changing the goalposts. But I guess the proof of the pudding is in the pedalling.
That ride WAS epic Dadam! How are you finding it now? I know what you mean about the torque specs, but I’m going to ask about whether the X35 figures are also mid-mount equivalents. If so, I think it’s fair enough, though it’s not what any of us buying the X35 unit thought at the time. Re mudguards, there are now excellent, stable mudguards that don’t need the lugs - the SKS Raceblades seem very popular for full-sized ‘guards…
@@yakoridesagain I know right! :) I'm loving the bike and looking forward to some more even longer rides when the weather gets better. I've got a set of the XL raceblades on it now and they are really good. The drawback with them is the rear especially is too short so my chainwheel and BB get plastered.
Grrrrr no, FSB. They keep promising one for a Spanish Coast2Coast, but nothing yet, and it’s getting pretty hot out here. I’d settle for the factory visit and test ride as originally offered, as there are so few real reviews from real riders out there…
I understand the prices will be: Orbea Gain M10i / 9.999 € Orbea Gain M21e 1x / 7.599 € Orbea Gain M20i / 7.499 € Orbea Gain M31e 1x / 6.599 € Orbea Gain M30i / 6.299 € Orbea Gain M30 / 5.499 € Orbea Gain D30i / 4.499 € Orbea Gain D30 1X / 3.999 € Orbea Gain D30 / 3.799 € Orbea Gain D40 / 3.399 € Orbea Gain D50 / 2.999 € The weight of the M10i is 11.5kg. Orbea have opted for the bigger range of the heavier 350Wh battery (800g more than the 250Wh). Seeing as the assist ‘removes’ the weight of the bike, I personally agree with this choice.
I'm after one for recreation and fitness road use only. I dont want to be sold last years model. Which one do I have to search out and where to buy from - UK based.
Definitely ride home!! I keep hearing about the gravel bike but haven't been able to determine if they are talking about the 1x Gain models or an electric version of their Terra gravel bike. Any insight on that would be helpful. Thanks.
should have added that previous 1x Gain models were capable of taking up to 40mm tyres and were great gravel bikes - I have a playlist on this channel of my gravel rides using my road bike and 38mm’s if you want to check out what it can do.
@@yakoridesagain Thanks for the reply. I prefer 1x systems with XD drivers to maximize the range on the cassette. Unfortunately, the X35 hub doesn't do XD drivers as far as I can tell. Seems like the 1x options are either limited in range or have limited tire clearance. I will probably go for gear range over tire clearance. The climbs in our area are relatively short but most of them have sections of 15%. So climbing is a bit closer to mountain biking than road riding. You can't just grind out a climb without hitting a step, gut-punching section.
I understand the attraction of 1x, but for me, I’m used to 2x and the range it provides. A guy I know has just fitted an 11-40 to his D30 2x 34/50. Now that is a go anywhere range!
@@yakoridesagainI'm using a 9-46 e*thirteen cassette on my gravel bike. I get 85 gear inches of range. So take one gear off the top of the 11-40 2x you mentioned and that's what I have. Of course, the gaps between gears are bigger and can be slightly annoying on the pavement but I've gotten used to it. The problem is you have to have the XD driver to do this.
Everywhere I've read has stated the X20 has 55nm of torque, they say that level of torque is similar to what you would find on a mid hub system, nowhere says it's less than that, especially not twenty something.
Sorry Leon but they do state that it’s 23Nm at the hub, equivalent to 55Nm at the BB…they want to let buyers know how it compares like-for-like with mid-motor systems like the Fazua. What I can’t discover, for certain, is whether the 40Nm claimed for the X35 was ALSO a mid-motor equivalent.
@@yakoridesagain I would be very misleading to claim it's 55nm of torque, hopefully you will be able to tell us all how it compares to the old system when you ride it soon. I'm hoping to make my next bike purchase around April, so would like to know as much about the performance before then. regards Leon.
I’m your man Leon. I’m pretty intrigued myself. It does seem as though Orbea have worked with Mahle to do something different with this system, but, the proof is in the riding. I’ll be reporting back.
So, “The many faces of Joy” motto kind of sucks! There are no people of color! I also was sent an email about trying out the new bike but then it was... taken away. Very strange. They went w two white guys instead. Lol. I know that you will do a fantastic job w reviewing the bike cause that’s who you are. I look forward to hearing your thoughts! I am bummed that I didn’t get an opportunity to be selected to review the bike. I hope, that in the future, they realized that people of color also ride bikes.
I didn’t want to risk my visit…but I will. YES! Absolutey! You were removed because you were from America, I think, therefore too far away/expensive for the accountants to bring over… but that Many faces of joy? all kids, all white., all fit…but who buys it an e road bike? I wanted older faces, chubbier faces, faces lined with pain, trying to get back to a fitness they have lost through illness! THAT’S who is buying an Orbea Gain. In my opinion.
That would have been a fantastic day/ride (I didn’t want to say ride first - it sounded rude!) One day maybe Denice, though I think you would drop me in the hills!
That’s what’s nice about the new Gain - I take a leisurely café stop (I will, promise), maybe an Americano and some polverones - and the smart charger whacks 80% back in the batteries! I’ll need it, País Vasco is…bumpy.
I’ve no doubt the new ones will be too! And I wouldn’t fancy making one myself for the X20…the system is considerably more complex. Frosts here too at the mo…brrrrr!
Merci Orbea. A fuir absolument.
I assume you have contacted Orbea to tell them of the issue? The M30i comes with 105 Di2 and aluminium wheels; the M20i has Ultegra Di2 and carbon wheels. Quite different, and quite different prices too. Neither is advertised as 11kg, the lightest is the M10i at 11.4kg. I will certainly be comparing the weight of the Gain Orbea are shortly to be sending me and will include the results in a video.
Sadly the front light mount is a known weak spot, which will be replaced under warranty. If you have the ‘22 M20, it would be fitted with the X35i motor… Might I recommend two things. 1. You write directly to the CEO of Orbea, if you bought directly from them. If you bought from a bike shop, they may have swapped the wheels to discount the price and obtain a sale. You will need to enquire. 2. Join either or both Facebook groups: “Orbea Gain and All Mahle based Ebikes” and “Mahle x20 Powered Bikes”. Both have plenty of knowledgeable owners who may also have advice for you.
