Oh Game Pass absolutely cannibalizes game sales. GamePass is good for AA Games from small, independent studios to get people to play their games. But for a AAA Title, that game will not make money like being exposed to the free market.

M$ are either gambling new subscribers will join gamepass rather than outright buying the game or the increase in extra players having exposure on gamepass means more micro transactions than traditional sales would generate. I think this could be an experiment to test the waters and see which release method is more lucrative.

All this is why I don’t subscribe to ANY streaming services or gaming subscriptions. They’re always increasing their prices and in most cases not giving value for money. I think 2026 for new hardware is too soon. There was 7yrs between the One and the Series X/S, so if it released in 2026 that would only be a 6yr cycle. Maybe that's when they're looking to have a completed system to put into production. But I highly doubt we'll see a new XBox system in two years. I say three, minimum.

Trying to jump ship to another generation when so many haven't even upgraded to this one sounds insane. So few people are gonna want that from either platform, Nintendo being the obvious exception.

I'm just tired of the fear mongering, that is why anything negative i'm just tuning out. It's how these cycles go unfortunately, and Xbox is an easy target. They do deserve criticism for the studio firings, but I have heard 3 different varieties of reports about the same thing, all 3 can't be real. You can't say a studio is on fire and in the same week report they are fine.

The majority of the profits in multiplayer games comes from the sale of microtransactions. This is why they want more people to have the ability to play for free. Then, when hundreds of thousands of people are financially invested into the game, they will pull it from Game Pass and a large percentage of those people will go buy a copy of the game.

Streaming TV and movies is losing major studios money. Putting your money makers on streaming to boost game pass subscribers doesn't work.

The majority of CoD revenue DOESN'T come from base game sales. That is what will be on Game Pass. The revenue of CoD comes from add-ons and micro transactions. By sacrificing initial base game sales, they will have more copies in front of of more eyes and a larger consumer base for their product.

I don't feel the new Call of Duty going day one into Game Pass is as financially "doom and gloom" as many may at first think. Let me explain.. First, let's stop and think about the PlayStation demographic. For anyone playing the new CoD on that platform, they will be paying the price of $70. That's just the price of the standard edition. It's not factoring in the price of the deluxe edition so I will simply use the standard edition as the basis of my point here. Aside from the $70 price for the standard edition, many, if not most, will also purchase whatever season pass is being sold for the game. Let's just say that this season pass adds another $15 to the $70 initial price paid for the new CoD. This brings the price for buying both up to roughly $85, minus taxes. For everyone playing the new CoD on PlayStation, regardless if it's from just purchasing the $70 standard edition or purchasing that along with the season pass, all of that money goes directly to Microsoft Corporation. Let's say the game sells 10 million copies on the PlayStation platform, that equals to roughly $700,000,000 . This still hasn't even factored in the sales of micro transactions which tend to sell at high levels and are themselves somewhat pricey. Just this rough estimate for PlayStation sales closely reach 1 billion in revenue. Now let's look at those on the Xbox platform, more specifically those on console and PC. For those on Xbox and PC buying the game, the same $70 price applies here as it did for the standard edition of the new CoD over on PlayStation. Let's say on Xbox and PC all sales of the new CoD reach roughly around another 10 million copies sold. Again, this is merely a speculative estimate. If this was the actual sales figure for the game on the Xbox console and PC, this adds up to around another near 1 billion in revenue generated directly for Microsoft. Adding up the sales across PlayStation, Xbox and PC brings the rough estimate of revenue over or just shy of 2 billion in revenue. And now we get to the more interesting part which is Game Pass. Obviously you are going to have many current subscribers playing the new CoD. While this doesn't really factor into the service itself growing, what it does do instead is bring about the fact that many current subscribers to Game Pass are going to spend money on season passes and micro transactions for the new CoD. While this might not push Game Pass growth itself necessarily, it does however generate more revenue to add to the near 2 billion already made from PlayStation, Xbox consoles and PC players. Kind of like the candy, magazines and trinkets you see at the checkout line of a grocery store. Point of sale items at a grocery store are huge financial gains for that particular store. An extra dollar here and there adds up. Same theory applies to micro transactions in a CoD, especially for those players already subscribed to Game Pass. It's just added extra revenue atop what is already being spent to subscribe to Game Pass. But here is where things get even more interesting. Let's bring the hardcore CoD players on Xbox and PC who aren't yet subscribed to Game Pass. Remember, the retail price of the standard edition is $70. The hardcore CoD players were going to absolutely buy the game. But now, now they don't need to spend the up front $70 or $100 they normally would. Instead they only need to spend $18 to get Game Pass Ultimate per month. However, there will be many of the hardcore CoD players entering into Game Pass Ultimate who will join simply for the one game. They won't care about any other game besides the new CoD. This is the point where I honestly don't see the negative effects financially for Microsoft/Xbox putting the new CoD into Game Pass Ultimate day one because many will renew their subscription month after month to keep playing the new CoD. I mean every new entry tends to have a one year cycle. Then it's time to move on to the next Call of Duty.Rinse and repeat. By doing so, these players, the hardcore, will actually be spending roughly $120 for the new CoD by subbing to Game Pass Ultimate for the entire year. These players are close to buying the game twice at this point if you follow me. These players aren't spending just the price of one copy of the new CoD but are actually close to spending an amount nearer to buying two copies of the game. While this obviously doesn't apply to all players because not all CoD players are hardcore, I do believe there are enough hardcore CoD players to make it a financial factor in favor of Microsoft Corporation. And again, this doesn't even take into consideration the money that will indeed be spent by the hardcore CoD players for season passes and micro transactions. When you really look at all these factors which I have outlined here, even though my estimates are conservative for the most part, I think it's easy to see that Microsoft Corporation actually ends being in a better financial position by putting the new CoD into Game Pass Ultimate day one than simply selling it a la carte. On top of all this there is still the many new subscribers the new CoD will attract into the Game Pass Ultimate service. Nobody knows what type of growth this will actually bring but there will be growth of some kind. Anyhow, thanks for reading my novel here lol. It's just my thoughts. Take care

Here is my thought, the release on Game Pass wont include DLCs. The amount of time the average player plays COD in the long run, they will make more money off of Game Pass than just forking over the initial $60. In Black Ops Gulf War, it is confirmed they will be toying with the idea of an open world campaign, leaning once again in lengthy playtime. I have wondered if MSoft IPs are longer consistently because of Game Pass. Even so, people do play the game mostly for the multiplayer, which means you will still fork over money for DLCs and microtransactions. I have to admit, even I myself have been more okay spending money on microtransactions since I didnt pay the initial $60 for the game. But if I was still playing this COD two years after release, with the DLCs, microtransactions, and my sub to Game Pass will actually outwiegh the amount of money I would have spent on COD in a traditional purchase model.

The good thing for M$ is that a lot of COD players will buy their game on PS5 and Steam. They'll definitely lose revenue from not selling it only, but I'm sure microtransaction will help. If they didn't put it on Gamepass day one, there would be an uproar and possibly cost Gamepass subs.

One really big thing to remember when it comes to GamePass -- or any subscription -- nearly HALF of all consumers will continue to pay for subscriptions they are not using. It's estimated that, across the US, there are $1B in revenues collected every single month for subscriptions people aren't even using. This is why everyone wants subscribers. This is why Ubisoft is releasing Outlaws and AC: Shadows within 3 months of one another for $130/ea, or you can just pay $17/month. They don't expect a lot of $130 buyers for the "premium" versions. They want the $17/month to seem even more appealing. Will some people pay $17 for 3-4 months and then quit, getting 2 x AAA (or I guess "quadruple"-A since it's Ubi) for ~$50? Yeah. Some will. But a lot more will just keep right on paying that $17/month for months and months, even years, without every logging into again. Money in the bank.

You can loose sales you never had - MS will still get all the sales from the PS version of Cod while at the same time boost gamepass numbers for xbox - Its a win/win for MS...

Anyone who buys things in game probably will want to buy the game vs having it on gamepass where it could be removed from the service at some point.

Anyway, pricing and tier changes dont necessarily mean more and more costly - another report from someone less stupid has claimed there is desire to put CoD in a free/ad-supportd teir or the cheapest one as an upsell to the other two, or to just merge the upper two or something.
