Dang. Not only does Jamie (guy on the beat machine) have a sick sense of rhythm, but he's working that thing really fast O.O I am impressed (I thought that he might use recorded tracks under the music...). And you can do that on a real kit. I did it today XD With 4 limbs instead of 2.
The "beat machine" actually is a AKAI MPC 500 and while i am searching still about how to use it in my studio, these guys made a world wide hit. So to all the musicians around this is a vid to watch just to learn that it doesnt play a big role if you own the 500, the 1000, the 5000 or any other piece of gear, but if YOU are capable to make something with it. And i am pretty sure that most who discuss techwise about gear have never made a descent full track . I am amazed about the skills although i play House music which does not require live performing it more sequencer based and "robotic" type of music..
I just heard it on the radio... and got to find'em plaing live. I didn't expect they're soo young. Awesome! Hope I'll hear 'em & about 'em! Love their style! Good luck guys, if I'll find your CD- for sure i won't let it lay in musicshop ;)
i have no concept of how you get four people into a room and come up with this. the guy with the beat box thing (Jamie?), how does he come up with that so that it goes perfectly with the melody of the song? what came first? mind boggling stuff. incredible to watch.
@TashesxD Don't know much about rock n roll, but I'm pretty sure The xx isn't really considered part of that genre haha. After all, the band is influenced by a wide range of artists, and they aren't really seeking to recreate the rock n roll sound either, I don't think...
I absolutely love this song :D My friend Grace did an amazing cover of it. Feel free to check it out. If you type in Grace est la Fleur - the XX Crystalised it should come up. It's the best cover I've heard so far (and I am not being biased)
Im a great fan of this song, but does anyone think that their vocals lack a bit when it comes to singing live? They play their instruments well but the voices just dont always seem to be great....
