The Yamaha PSR-2700 is one SHOW-OFF of a sampling keyboard!

Have you ever seen a keyboard with a more over-engineered control panel!?
The PSR-2700 has some good features and nice sounds but it's a pain to use - everything that could have been made tricky has been. It has countless potential fault points (e.g. a button for everything and a seriously hard-to-reach socket panel) but I have to admit ....I really enjoyed making this demo!

I didn’t know it’s possible to layer 2 samples. EXCELLENT.

The sounds are the same as those in the PSR-510. Inside this huge package the PSR-2700 only adds sampling, a bigger display, a floppy drive and more recording options. Only the PSR-4500 was bigger in size. The user interface is actually great. Every function has its own button.

Every function has its own button - maybe my favorite memory of my PSR-510, being able to do things easily like turn velocity sensitivity on and off, and to adjust it up and down, with no “menu diving”. 😃

I owned both the PSR-1700 and PSPR-2700 and totally loved them. The step time sequencer function was really nice. I didn't find it complicated at all. I found working with the Tyros way more complicated. Nice to see the keyboard after all these years. I now only have the demo disk left. 😉

1993 flagship ... the same the psr-510 came out, the psr-1700 and this psr-2700 are a button lovers delights ... tbh, the 510 really impressed me ... these look to have even more buttons and a better display. These flagships kind of remind me of the technics sx-kn1000 with that 2 line backlit lcd at the top.

I had a PSR 2700 many moons ago , at the time I bought it ... It was too of its class of keyboard from Yamaha , floppy disk was a pain in the ass , it has a simple but brilliant sampler , step recording was easy to use and could be used for making crazy loops , all in all it was a great keyboard and it was a big stepping stone to the PSR keyboards we have today ... Brilliant upload .... Big thumbs flying high from a galaxy far far away called Ireland ☘️🇮🇪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Sounds great 👍 still a masterpiece. Speaking of sound quality it seems like it’s equivalent to the psr e series. I believe Yamaha used their classic sound chip for the psr e series. This one was the top of the line in the 90s I enjoyed it very much. 😊😎👍

I contemplate getting my PSR-510 out now and again, especially for putting through my pedal effects chain. Often I find that the more complex the effects, the more the sound source benefits from being simple, even to the point of inexpensive Casio or Yamaha sounds from decades ago.
@chiefbucknell
@chiefbucknell 3 года назад
The main reason I more often reach for a Casio or my PSS-480 is because they’re smaller than the PSR-510 - limited space in the home studio for a keyboard like the 510, and hard to justify leaving it out all the time, as it takes some effort to make it “sound pro” and not dated (to my subjective ear). By the way, I remember the electronic bass drum on the 510 putting out an extreme amount of low end!
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 3 года назад
Oh man some of those PSS keyboards are SERIOUS performers even by today's standards. Excellent secondary keyboards because as you say, the size was so manageable. Thanks for watching and for the comments!
@kenzieprice6745
@kenzieprice6745 3 года назад
@@chiefbucknell Keith you nailed it with the simple waveforms taking effects better. They keep their character and I think older synthesizers actually spent more effort on the actual waveform instead of souping it up with effects. I think newer synths all sound the same because of it and why I keep reaching further back in time for new instruments.

That's the top of the line for the model year that also included my trusty ol' piece of shit, the 210. Kind of astounded at how good the voices are sounding, actually! Mad impressive for a 1993 keyboard, I'd need to hear a direct comparison with the new flagship models to tell just how far Yamaha has come in those almost 30 years, but listening to just this thing in a vacuum so to say, makes me think they were already pretty amazing way back when.

@@gearfacts Oh, since you're here - I've found used Tyros 2's listed for cheaper than new SX-600 are in online stores. Sounds like a no-brainer which one to pick, but I might as well defer to your experience!
@gearfacts
@gearfacts Год назад
@@SaturnineXTS Hmm I might not be the best person to ask, because every time I've played a Tyros it feels like an old matron's keyboard - dependable and no fun whatsoever. I suspect the SX600 would be more lively but I've never had the pleasure... The lack of arpeggiator or sampler is a turnoff (with both). And then you see the PSR-E463 with its mediocre sounds - but it's absolute non-stop fun and costs half the price. I know which one would bring out the nest musician in me!
