I have the SA 1100 with Classic 57 and 57+ pups. The reason I swapped from the stock Yam pups was because they were too clean and clinical for me and lacked character when pushed. The 57's are warmer and have much more response to playing dynamics when pushed, but I do get a much better crytaline clean sound from the neck 57 pu than you had on the SA 2200 with classics. It might be a set-up thing -who knows (I have my neck 57 pu very low-slung)? Anyhow these Yam SA'a are great playing guitars -top notch build quality - better than a Gibson for sure. Great to hear your review. BTW get yourself a Yamaha THR30ii desktop amp (if you haven't already got one) they're great for practice and recording and sound like the real thing at lounge volume levels!
I play with fingers, so I usually setup my pickups a bit on the high-side to compensate the lack of attack compared to the pick. There are some differences in construction and woods too between the 2 guitars, even if my 1100 is very hot. I had 3 THRs, my thoughts is they work fine with solid bodies but could not give justice to hollow and semi-hollow.bodied guitars. My home/practice amp.is the Roland JC22, a real amp at less the price of a THR. Please subscribe to my channel if you haven't already mate, I appreciated your comment.
@@TheSpaceGuitar This is not true though. There are SA800s made in Japan and Taiwan. Easy enough to see which version it is by looking at the back of the headstock. It will have the serial number and made in Japan. They will normally cost way more than the Taiwan version. The SA-700 seems older. So maybe it was before Yamaha started making them outside of Japan. But there are absolutely SA-800 made in Japan. Since the 800 and 700 look basically identical, I can only think the difference must be just wood choice.
@@ltvddvtl the 700 is the first Yamaha ever made designed for the US market. Is a milestone, with selected woods resembling a Gibson 335 dot from 1963. I’ve read that the 800 was made either in Japan and Taiwan but I never saw a Japan 800. The wood selection is different and aesthetically the top is usually poor and simple. Electronic is rubbish in both 700 and 800
@@TheSpaceGuitar I have seen at least 2 SA800 made in Japan for sale. They are out there. 😉 But like I said, the main difference must be wood and I agree the top of the 700s normally look nicer and more interesting. The electronics are probably the same. But how do you mean they are rubish?
I made some specific video where they were stock, then I don’t come back. Anyway it’s also a way to compare some different mods and improvement that are very often made to these guitars
