In the year 1904 a huge Great Lakes ore freighter was launched with innovations so futuristic that there is still an oreboat running today equipped with one of them. This is the story of one man who had the desire to get a toe hold into the ore shipping industry. Thus he invested in a small fleet of freighters. The largest was so big that there was not a drydock on the lakes that could accommodate her. His name was Augustus Wolvin and his new queen of the lakes cost nearly a half million 1904 dollars to build and put into service.
To learn more about Mr. Wolvin's fleet see my video on that subject:

Yellow -- the rarest color on the lakes! And here I thought the green of the Schoonmaker and the occasional Canfornav (Canadian Forest Navigation) saltie was a rare color. But now, I see that yellow is the rarest color.

Wolvin apparently wanted her to stand out.

This was really interesting and I had no idea until this tutorial that a lake boat was originally painted yellow! I watched the earlier episode on the Wolvin Canallers and I learned a lot from it. Thank for making this tutorial. I really enjoyed it.

60 years in good hands and then a few months in the hands of incompetency and the ship is gone. There is a big difference in personnel. People matter as much as the equipment.
