The most beautiful song of 'Politics' that really captures the spirit of the legendary Jaco Pastorius with haunting fretless bass playing from Jimmy Haslip who does an amazing job in honoring one of the all time great bassists.
Jimmy Haslip is one of the true greats in contemporary music. He is a giving and gracious player, who allows his audience to actually "hear" what he is playing. His gift is a true treasure of skill, dedication, and loyalty to the artform, and the listener. Jaco would be proud to have this as a tribute to what his voice was trying to convey during his tragically shortened life. I appreciate what Jimmy does, and as a bass player, Hope that I display some facsimile of his style in my playing!
I remember the first time I heard this. I JUST CRIED MY EYES OUT !!! RIP Jaco, and thanks for everything (up until today) to Jimmy Haslip. If you haven't heard what he produces, I STRONGLY recommend you search MCM Schmidt's music here on YT. All produced by Jimmy for many years - and absolutely amazing stuff!!
Me too!!!! Pat Metheny Group really was my favourite band from 86 onwards, and then switched later on roughly around 96 with Yellowjackets. I'm so grateful to these amazing musicians... How come our planet can't produce a few more? Any suggestions please?
This is my FAVORITE Jazz Group!!!!! I have never seen them live. This is at the top of my bucket list!!!! I think I could die in peace after seeing and maybe meeting these guys!! Just to thank them for their contribution to this thing call MY LIFE!!!!!!!
I had the opportunity to hear them play up hear in Canada one summer (when Felix Pastorious was playing for them); got to meet them too. Russell sent me the score for "the Tortoise and the Hare" (my fave tune!) Great guys; great musicians!
I saw them live about a month ago, and Acuña/Hoff/Mathisen 1 week ago. Both concerts reminded me of Jaco, and both bands played tunes dedicated to the man. Amazing musician. Maybe even the best, if there is such a thing as "the best".
Hi SPTAH Just for the record you list Mintzer as being (the horn) on this album, actually on Politics, Marc Russo was the chops. Their album Spin is in my all-time top 10. Marc Russo, unconventional and unpredictable, he was part of THAT great sound, never duplicated. Russ, Jimmy, Will, Bob all great players nevertheless - I do miss THAT sound Thanks for sharing SPTAH you induced me to dig out those treasures once again. jp
