My first exposure to the Yorkshire accent was The Secret Garden. It wasn't so confusing in the movie, but the book's dialog for the Yorkshire men and women was spelled out phonetically (if that's the correct term for it). I was so confused.
As a student in Nottingham with family in York, I can confirm that it depends on what type of sexiness you want. If you want an outgoing, expressive sexy accent, that's Yorkshire. Want an accent more clean, reserved, innocent, then Nottingham it is. However, I believe there is a lower class Nottingham accent that sounds like the world's biggest speech impediment (my cleaner, who lives in Basford, has it, and when I went to a park in Bulwell, I heard fishers use that type of accent by a lake).
Yorkshire accent is similar to the Jutland accent of Denmark. A Dane can understand the Yorkshire accent, and vice-versa, without understanding the words
Im canadian and i seriously dont understand how people cant interpret UK accents... i mean im 3rd gen British-Canadian but i can understand every UK accents perfectly... even the Northern Country broken english crapnthey got up there. My grandparents were from surrey & wales 😅
My family is from New England in USA. If I can understand a backwoods Maine inbred accent I'm good. You have to be careful in the Southern USA because they'll say something that SOUNDS sweet but really they're calling you an idiot to your face. The only UK ones I can't do is rhyming slang because I never get what the rhymes mean, that and David Bradley on Hot Fuzz. OMG that accent is hilarious and I've seen enough to know people actually do talk like that. I'd be so screwed asking him for directions though. It's the gun/sea mine scene in Hot Fuzz, which I think there are a ton of clips on RU-vid because it's so funny. Oh and I can't understand a drunk Glaswegian but then again, can they understand themselves?
@amazon4219 that's how I talk mostly lmao, its a bunch of broken words with a run-on scentence basically. Or that's how I interpret it as. Like my family is from all over the UK (from Ireland to South of London in sussex. But they have a strong Kent type accent despite the location hhaha
