Zarna, youre right. 18 and 21 are just numbers. A person's frontal lobe is not fully developed until you're 25. You're looking out from them, until they've proven themselves. Being an adult, comes from life experience. Brij is sensible, saying he doesn't feel like an adult yet. He knows he needs to be working and earning his own money. Shalabh, for all his education is still very backwards in his thinking-already talking marriage for Zoya. Glad she shut him down.
@mspatchgrove

It was a joke. I don’t think so das is backward. He is making sarcastic typical Indian statements. I don’t think IIT guy would expect his Stanford daughter to just get married and not have career.

Brij, I’m 32 and I felt truly like an “adult” maybe 5-6 years ago when I was completely financially independent (I declined my dad’s usual “gift” of cash when he visited and paid for everything myself without needing to think about savings etc. He was a little thrown but then super proud), helped my parents when they got sick and we all realized I could do everything for and take care of them. Same thing for my brother. They also really started treating me like an adult when they realized they could lean on me.

Brij made an excellent point about how differently Indian parents look at a daughter vs a son. It comes from a genuine love and concern and being protective, but there is a fine line where it can be smothering. I’m the oldest and only daughter of my parents and they were much more chill about my brother’s teenage and adulthood in India than mine.

India and indian girls are way way way different from what is being portrayed.. feels like ppl are stuck in what they saw when they left India in 2000s.. there are numerous girls and boys in india, studying away from home , working in different cities, working in very good jobs, playing football and tennis, making their own money, travelling solo or with friends, starting companies and more, being independent and leading a great life...

Why does brij thinks that indian girls can't stand up for themselves and make money. He really needs to visit India and see for himself. The west has created so many misconceptions about India. We all have the right to have our own preference but his statement over why he doesn't want an indian girl is just beyond my understanding.

The mother and her attitude is deeply disturbing. It is this kind of upbringing of boys that is leading to more and more dissatisfied couples and high divorce rates because men are not able to be men because moms are still babying them. The men are not able to provide and protect their women because their mothers never taught them to be independent, take responsibility and own their decisions. It's a shame to see this happening to Indian boys. I feel sad for the 3 kids.

Zarna needs to be the adult first. She is clinging on to her children who clearly have expressed the desire to be free of her controlling nature. You have given wings to your children Zarna. Let them fly now. And I promise they will fly back to you. These are good children with good values. They have to make their own mistakes and learn from them. I feel sorry for all 3 children.

Zarna sometimes you have to step back and let the kids make their own decisions about what they want to do in life.Brij doesn't want to be a doctor. How can you force or demand he becomes a doctor.He will not be happy and you bully him.Medicine is extremely difficult when you have to work long hours all day then be on call all night then work the nexy day.Zarna talk to a doctor and desist from making your children unhappy.Don't try to live your life through them. It is not too late for YOU to go back to school and study to become a doctor

I am not sure if this video is scripted or real. As a south asian 30 year old immigrant I find it totally unbelievable. I mean I thought my parents, 60 year old brown couple living in south asia were controlling until, I found this. And yes Zoya I go to farmers market too, Zarna has never been to an Asian farmers market otherwise her mind would change by seeing all the veggies that she saw in India growing up at the farmers market! On top of all I find the dad's view on women very regressive no wonder you liked the movie animal 😂. I feel like Zoya is often discriminated by her dad for being a woman. Also it is very common for Brij to think Indian girls from India would be very traditional and not have ambitions when he is growing up with very traditional parents. Hey Brij, any girl you meet in your college that grew up in India could be as ambitious as any girl that grew up in USA. Not all women born in India dreams to be a housewife. Welcome Zarna, who knows Brij might look at Indian women now. 😂

I was in medical school throughout my 20s and now getting my MD.. I am engaged,29 and getting married this year to the love of my life I met in medical school. I am also an independent woman living alone in a different state away from home and handling my entire life by myself. All because my parents gave me all the freedom I needed in my earlier life. I am a self-made woman. I enjoyed, I partied in my earlier life in medical school too.. but did what and when required. Thank god I did not have overbearing parents like this..home always means my mom's food, and a whole lot of wholesomeness. I love how all of it has navigated my life, I have failed in life, got up and came back stronger than ever.. all the while knowing my parents are there for me whenever I need them..And yes.. I have never been happier in life as I am right now. ❤ 😇 Oh by the way.. Indian, grew up on Kolkata.
