I’m a Xhiyun user for almost 3 years. And I guess I miss the easy to use feature of Dji gimbal as I use the Ronin-S and the Ronin for professional use. Dji gimbals are user friendly and best for youtube and small content creators but zhiyun is mostly made like a tank for hardcore professional use.🙏

Exactly! They both have their different levels of use based on how much they can handle etc. If I need a more portable but heavy weight, the Crane is an amazing option for that, while the user friendly and lighter loads could go for the Ronin S series!

Youre right I never actually said anything about it directly!! But when it comes down to it, I did mention that the RS2 has a wobble sometimes and a loose plate, the Crane smoothens footage out perfectly.

Starting the video with "They sent it to me, but I'm not gonna be biased" and ending it with "I'm giving them an extra point because they sent it to me". That's called bias. Missing quiet a few actual comparison points which were mentiond in comments as well. Aside from that, no too bad. Try to show some more differences... Try to show the gimbals handling more extreme situations (e.g. with tele lenses to see how smooth they really are,....)

Gotcha! Thanks for the feedback, that was my bad there on the point bias. Personally I felt like they both can be smooth depending on how well the user js operating as well as their personal payloads. The Ronin can wobble with a heavy load, while the Crane wouldn’t. The biggest differences I feel like were in the actual features of the gimbal themselves and what they offered as far as ease for the user in which case the Ronin wins there.

DJI Ronin RS2 w/14 lb payload capacity would make the Ronin, hands down, superior. The difference in payload between the two is the only thing that makes the Crain S3 a consideration over the RS2. Concerned about the RS2 being able to handle the bmpcc 6k Pro / DZOFilm Pictor Zoom combo with all extras. Wish RS2 payload was heavier. Great review!

Had the DJI on pre order but switched out for the crane 3 being I use larger cinema camera setups like the Komodo with a trigger handle that I’d like to Just slap on and off on site when needed 🙏🏻

Of course! Both had a bit of issues tbh, Crane had a weird shake in a specific stance/motion while the RS2 sometimes has wobble depending on how heavy the camera is! The heavier the camera the more wobble it has. So at the end of the day I feel like the RS2 will be more stable if you’re using a lighter camera.

Hi ... please I use a Sony A7SIII with a 16-35mm and I'm thinking of rigging it up with matte box , v mount batteries at the back ,cage and top handle bar for my monitor and I'm stuck on which gimbal to get ..if I should get the crane 3s for more clearance or DJI rs2 for easy of use .. please I need your advise

Seems like a ton of yaw movement on the zhiyun. Seen this in a lot of other reviews on it also. That's what made me go with the rs2. My ronin sc is super smooth and just works. I have the Sony fs5 on my rs2

Ah interesting. Sometimes i wish i went with the zhiyun because it can handle awkward sized cameras (sony fs700 etc) but i kept seeing that weird yaw movement with relatively big or small set ups on a handful of reviews so went with proven dji. Thanks for sharing this info

DJI teased it with their release of the RS2! Basically an accessory that detects distance from a subject and works with the focus motor to focus for you!

DJI has developed their own version of what's called LIDAR that's used to control a focus motor to provide continuous AF to any lens and some independent developers have made their own. LIDAR works via infrared laser range finding, which has been around for decades, but in usually very large systems. It's not a panacea for cameras/lenses that lack AF, as it's range limited (most likely due to safe power levels), but can be very useful in situations where it's designed to work and can work better than some of the best AF systems around (even in total darkness). Expect to see more of these in the coming years, especially generic ones that will work with any camera/lens setup, not just gimbals.

It should definitely work! The cameras not too heavy so I think the RS2 should be fine! If you see yourself exceeding 10-11lbs then the Crane may be better

For something that big I’d say the Crane 3S if at all, check around and look up the pairing with the FS6 and the Crane 3S to see if anyone else has done it.

@@Minhute I've got different views on it. I see a couple of youtube reviewers have used the ronin rs2 with it and it seemed to kinda work but then when I called B&H they said it wouldn't work with that camera.

Yeah the Ronins payload is about 4-5 lbs less than the Crane 3S and since the Fx6 is on the heavier side thats probably why B&H says that. You can probably push it with counterweights etc on the Ronin but you might not get the best work off it

@@Minhute Sure it’s a lot of money in context to how much was paid for the gimbal, but it’s extremely affordable in context to the true cinema equipment that the accessories replicate. For example the car mounting solution, or the tilta float compared to the arri trinity system. I would imagine that it’s designed to support future Rs line aswell so it’s not necessarily all in this one system. On their product page it shows support for other gimbals including the Crane 3S but you don’t have as much control over the gimbal with their kit as the RS2. And if I buy a gimbal now I’d like the idea that I can upgrade it for specific use cases with accessories like that. It’s a tough one!

Yeah I definitely see it that way too, its just as of lately I’ve been running so many different cameras that don’t meet the payload of the RS2. In that case its a lot harder to justify the purchase, I only have 2 of four cameras that I could run on the RS2 and both of them are on the edge of the payload, so I can only use specific lenses

@@Minhute ah shit that’s fair enough: I’m running bmpcc6K rig so I should be fine on RS2 myself? Though I heard mixed stories in reviews between the two with bmpcc rig. My only update in future would be to go the ursa mini 12K route as I want to stay in black magic ecosystem with davinci and BRAW.

Im sure it should be fine as long as theres no cage or anything. Im running the 1DX3 Komodo and Gemini so only 2 of those can fit and both hit the payload lol

I respect the time and effort you put into the video but everything that I've heard you say when it comes to comparison prettymuch led me to believe it's more of a bias review because you were using DJI products before the actually using the crane. So it's sort of like someone who switches from Android to iPhone. They both have great qualities but they're completely operating system wise

Zhiyun Crane 3s fails on every shoot and sometimes I can't even get a full shot before it flops my camera around. I'll be getting the DJI Friday - just hoping it won't embarrass me like the zhiyun does on my professional shoots.

Oh, you should definitely not be running into any issues then. For the RS2 it might be a little front heavy, you might need some counterweights or something to mount on the camera to give it more weight on the back.

@@Minhute Wow, really. The images show it with a 1dx on it, which is a much bigger camera. Either I'm having motor issues with the Z, or it just sucks, but I've seen them with a ton of terrible reviews. It's supposed to hold a cinema level camera but barely holds my mirrorless. So not sure.

I feel like the 1DX is heavier though, when it comes to the R5 I think the lens is always heavier most of the time haha. Maybe if you have a battery grip it could run a bit better! Also the 24-70 extends with focus, unless you have the RF version which is an absolute brick in weight and size haha

My review, of your review, in order of sequence. If you carry a heavy load with the Zhiyun, you're going to have to have the extension arm added and a small case like that of the DJI won't suffice. My Crane 3s needs a somewhat larger case no matter what. The Crane 3s needs no micro adjustment whatsoever, I can slap my rig on and off all day and never have to worry about adjustment. Try putting a 4.1kg rig with microphone, monitor, matte box and whatnot on the DJI. Feel? Plasticky? I'll let you slap me on the head with the DJI if you let me slap you on the head with my Crane 3s and we'll see who comes off better. I had my rig balanced in less than 5 min from new, about 10 sec now. As I noted earlier, my rig is not a simple camera and lens like yours. Just because you're used to one thing, doesn't mean the other is no good, you need to learn how the other works. It's you, the app is in English. I have a FeiyuTech gimbal that has a touch screen and some aspects are definitely better. The Zhiyun app isn't the best, but the important gimbal settings on the gimbal itself are still pretty easy to change. Who cares about packaging? Again with weight and size, you buy the Crane if you want to haul a load, get the DJI if you just want to be a tourist. Zhiyun isn't taking any risks, they have the Crane 2s for the consumer market.

I never said the Crane was a bad gimbal at all! I definitely believe its an amazing one, again they’re both used for different purposes. I call the Crane a tank and a workhorse in the review itself. I state that its very opinionated, and its based on my own experience using the gimbal, I know that its an amazing one or else this video would never have had to surface. Thank you for your input!

@@Minhute I didn't mean to imply that you thought the Crane 3s to be a bad gimbal, but the comparison was, in my mind, more apples vs oranges. Rather than giving points for very subjective 'feels', it would have been better to simply consider the real world use cases for each gimbal. You basically compared a draft horse with a quarter horse.

@@Minhute You didn't offend me and I wasn't taking pot shots at you. Some of my somewhat irreverent comments may have been misunderstood. Perspective and context is always important, and sometimes that's hard to convey even in a video. My Crane 3s gimbal alone weighs 4.2 kg with motors etc, so that's already a hefty load before even adding the 4.1kg rig. But the support system is always going to have to be up to the load it's going to carry and Zhiyun made the Crane 3s to be the draught horse and not the quarter horse. Horses for courses, as they say.

This is not even close in my opinion. The design, the weight, the features goes to the RS2. The only thing that the Crane 3S has going for him is the price but mainly because it's an old product

I have both gimbals, and thought the review was pretty spot-on actually. The 3S is a monster, but a bit less refined. Just because it's a bit less refined though doesn't mean there isn't merit for having the extra clearance and extra motor strength. If anything, the 3S is more of an exciting product because until now if you wanted to fly a RED DSMC2 body or the like you'd be spending at least 5x what you would on the Crane. The RS2 is awesome, but is in a much more crowded market, and curiously lacks some of the features of the older ronin s, like powering cameras.

@@Minhute Yeah, I'm a RED Dragon-X owner (conrats on the Komodo!) so I'm used to people armchair quarterbacking products they have no experience with. In every RED discussion there is always some dude spouting about how RED cameras are a ripoff ect, but when you ask them which other cameras can do high frame rate 6K RAW internal with 16 stops of dynamic range they get quiet pretty quickly. The truth is that most of them have never even seen a RED much less used or owned one, and if what you're used to is working and grading 8 or 10 bit log footage, the latitude of 16 bit R3D will wake you up in a hurry.

The video makes zero sense. You create categories but then mention features outside of it. Same with scoring, also requires some basic common sense. If there’s a tie then you should give points to both because all in a sudden it was 2:0 as if crane didn’t score at all.

@@Minhute reasons are simple. You comparing two products. One of which you have great experience with. You couldn't really give a good breakdown of what their capable of as once again, you lack knowledge towards one brand / device, etc etc. You lucky these companies give you expensive products to show off for potential clients, but you didn't execute well in my opinion. But you did take your time and effort to put this video together, I rate that. Bless up.
