This is a well known Style and stamp of Zila Khan's Sufi Singing. Her audiences are always enthralled while she combines Classical compositions matching with Sufi lyrics. An extraordinary artist who has extensive training by her legendary father Ustad Vilayat Khan, so it comes naturally to her to match every Sufi lyrics with classical compositions from her vast database and Taleem. Her research is well known in the echelons of the music world.
In this video clip UstadMa Zila Khan demonstrates her blending of Raga Bihag Classical compositions which match the Ras / flavour, poetry and subject of the Sufi composition, selecting the classical compositions with the same Poetry / Lyrics and Raag from her long standing Classical repertoire.
She compiles here the popular Sufi kalaam 'Aeri Sakhi More Khwaja Ghar Aaye' sung with classical composition and a favourite from Zila Khan's own Gharana composition 'Laayi Ri Maalan', taught to her by her father and is ©Zila Khan. (Next video Part 2 has more Bihag compositions).
All these innovations also differentiates UstadMa Zila's concerts from other Sufi singers. This also differentiates her Sufi singing from the qawwali style of performance.

How they could bring out their artistry and DNA in composing in Raag's and in the Taal / rhythmic cycles. As in all other professions and matching with the times, women were not allowed to perform publicly, so they composed wedding songs for their internal weddings and Lat Uljhi and Laayi Ri Maalan sung here, are both reflective of their great but unrecognised genius. Annually Zila Khan honours women artists with the Title 'UstadMa' she created in recognition of their Mastery.
