its not remotely a "totally different genre". its not even a slightly different genre. its the same song played in the same way by the same kind of instruments in the same way except amy winehouse can actually sing. have you heard any 60s soul record at all? fucking moron
Heck the Zutons writers have probably really appreciated the mega composer writer royalties that are far more lucrative than performance royalties !! They get the respect for writing but also richer for the much bigger hit it became. What writer wouldn’t love a fabulous interpretation of their song that makes it an internationally famous hit? And literally everyone loves it and knows their lyrics . Greatest honour!!
Amy's version is great. But damn this version is just pure heart and soul. That guitar works man its amazing, those stratocasting guitar style mixed with pentatonic scales at the chorus when the guitar got a bit distorted. And the whole band can actually sing. That vocalist has an amazing voice too. So many factors that you just dont get from amy's version. Sorry amy fans. I love amy too,but this will always be better than her version.
The song was written about a ginger haired American girl called you guessed it Valerie that the lead singer had a brief romance with. I love this song and I love that these boys are from my home city of Liverpool :)
Well sometimes I go out by myself And I look across the water And I think of all the things, what you're doing And in my head I paint a picture 'Cause since I've come on home Well my body's been a mess And I miss your ginger hair And the way you like to dress Won't you come on over Stop making a fool out of me Why don't you come on over Valerie? Valerie Valerie Valerie Did you have to go to jail? Put your house up on for sale, did you get a good lawyer? I hope you didn't catch a tan, I hope you'll find the right man who'll fix it for you Are you shoppin' anywhere, Changed the colour of you hair, are you busy? And did you have to pay the fine? You were dodging all the time, are you still dizzy? 'Cause since I've come on home, Well my body's been a mess And I miss your ginger hair And the way you like to dress Won't you come on over Stop making a fool out of me Why don't you come on over Valerie? Valerie Valerie Valerie Well sometimes I go out by myself And I look across the water And I think of all the things, what you're doing And in my head I make a picture 'Cause since I've come on home, Well my body's been a mess And I miss your ginger hair And the way you like to dress Won't you come on over Stop making a fool out of me Why don't you come on over Valerie? Valerie Valerie Valerie yeah Valerie
ProsecutorGodot Mark Ronson's version is just another lazy song he made that sounds like something from the past, as in the dude has no original ideas. Mccabe's version has so much more heart. The way he strains his vocals convey a man who's heart is torn. Heart and soul.
ProsecutorGodot You need to see the Zutons sing this tune live from Abbey Road it's so raw. When MCcabe sings the bridge at the part "in my head I paint a picture", his vocals convey the song better because you can tell he's writing about specific person or a specific experience. His words from his mouth are so much more powerful than Amy's version, she sings it more of a chicago soul style where it's more about phrasing vocals but the lyrics more convey a southern soul like Otis Redding where vocals convey a sense of hurt.
Johnny Vulture can't seem to find the abbey road performance on youtube. listened to the zutons' studio version again, i feel like the bombast in the instrumental takes away from the emotion in the vocals.
The original and best version of this great song, sorry Amy Whitehouse fans, good though her version was, this one has such a great rhythm, hers didn't.
Agree and that's taking nothing away from Amy who did a brilliant job but the original is the best. Note that Amy's version helped put them on the ma though lol Although I'd like to think that Activision's Guitar Hero had a part as well since a lot of bands featured ended up on playlists.
@@008Invisibleman Yes. She didn't write it, so her version is not the original. She did a cover, and the cover was excellent. But THIS is the original song and you can't REDO an original; there is only one. And the original is always the best because it IS the original.
@WeirdFish101 I thought he was going for more of a Frank Zappa look, Phil Lynott had more of an actual afro. Oh and great vid, why is it that every time I watch Jools Holland I like none of the acts?
You do know that questions about what kinds of guitars people are playing rarely ever get answered, right? And you don't know how to spell Fender? Come on.
SuperMaarrk its all good.....both versions sound great......all this proves is that Winehouse had great taste to find it and to cover it......Bowie, Paul Young, Sting, preimimmently Sinead Oconnor all did the same......great hvehicle for her voice..i think she genuinely loved it..they did a nice horn and vocal arrangement on it too!!
i cant even finish the song in my head i hear amy and than this. sorry they creat the song but amy make it very much better. only shes gone too soon. what songs from her we miss even covers .
@ZLUGGO The "horn" section on Amy Winehouses version is all computer generated. Winehouse is a good singer (when she's sober) don't get me wrong, but these guys have more talent because they play the instruments themselves and not computers and autotune
