Actually, at eight years old you end up having a very clear tone because your normal voice is already up there. Thats not a belt, that is her chest voice, she goes into falsetto for the higher notes, but mostly it's just chest voice. When I was eight my voice was also like that, very high. So my chest voice sounded like a belt. When your eight, your voice is so high it's much easier to sing those notes. She was still amazing though.
5:17 you tell people you can’t sing because your fishing for compliments. I tell people I can’t sing because I don’t like singing in front of people. We are not the same.
I tell people I can't sing because I can't sing! I'm lucky the dance team doesnt have to sing in Mean Girls, I'd cry trying to learn how to sing in two months lol!
8:48 this is so real. I had a similar thing happen to me recently. We were doing the play the diary of Anne Frank for my hs fall play and I was understudying for 4 roles. I kept on filling in for one person and eventually I have most of it memorized and was at more rehearsals than the actual person playing it. Eventually nearing the week before tech my director had pulled me aside and told me that there was a chance that I may have to play the role and to prepare myself as much as possible. I memorized all the lines over the weekend and that Monday coming back, a week before tech, the girl dropped the role and I got to be in the show!
My 1st year of theater was last year and ot was Matilda and I was Ms wormwood and Matilda was that 1 girl the rest of us were having stage crew dance and we were throwing fake mony on them lol btw I'm in middle school
I was cringing cause that was totally me all the time.....specifically the trying to make people shut up in the wings. ngl tho I kind of stand by that 😂 shut the fuck up in the wings, no one wants to hear you in the audience
my friend performs at the theatre featured in the first tiktok, and she told me all about how he surprised the cast !! she wasn’t in the video and was part of the ensemble but she got a lot of pictures and videos and made some amazing memories - props to jonathan for going out of his way to do something nice and making a bunch of people’s days.
(8:47) just had a show in December. tech week came and our male lead (Who has done multiple shows in the past) didn't know ANY of his lines. it was so late in the game we couldn't do anything. His understudy was a freshman who wasn't ready AT ALL so we couldn't swap him in. ( it's a rough time, our theater program nearly shut down so it's all a mess rn.) Our male lead ended up having all his lines written in a little notebook (At least it fit his character) And was reading his lines through every show. after closing night he was talking about how he couldn't wait to do the spring musical. thing is, this is now the second show where he hasn't known his lines, so i highly doubt he's getting cast in the musical, and if he is, then heaven help the rest of us.
9:16 as someone who has been an understudy in this exact situation i can confirm that was my reaction, along with crying both happy and mostly sad/stressed tears
No but the talking behind the wings and the aggressive ‘shhhhhh’ to shut everyone up is actually AGONISING. My entire drama club in school is like it because it’s literally 5 or so year 11s including me, 10 or so year 10s and 10 or so year 9s, then literally everyone else (and there’s about 70 of us) are year 7s and 8s who are either talking when they shouldn’t be or violently shushing each other up. And literally everyone is annoyed at it the Christmas concert we’ve just done was absolute chaos because nobody listened and the teachers were getting annoyed and I spent the entire time just freaking out getting overstimulated by everything
my opening night for my school's production of newsies is in a little over a month. im playing jack kelly. im really stressed, this isnt my first lead but im not as solid on my lines as i'd like, but this 1:12, this made me feel a lot better. jack was one of my dream roles, ive loved the show for years, i was so excited to finally do the show. whenever i rehearse i compare myself to jeremy jordan and were double cast so im always comparing myself to my double. also, my voice hasnt dropped yet and i'm really insecure abt it, my double's voice has. anyway, this just reassured me that i will do well and im going to give the audience the best performance i can. my (theatre and non theatre) friends have all said im amazing, so has my older brother who also does theatre. they say im even better than my double, but im always so worried im not good enough. anyway, this got a lot longer than i expected lmao, i just really liked what he said and it made me feel better.
you got this! i’ve been jack kelly before, and the trick is to realize that you’re not jeremy jordan, nobody is, so just sing like you!!! be the best jack that you are, not somebody else :D
doing high school theater s honestly just so funny. out hang out with these outcast freaks (I can say it cause i am one) all day. you have a class where you read scripts and paint big pieces of wood. then after school you are once again stuck with the freaks to learn goofy little dances and songs about a plant wanting a man to kill people for it to eat or how its a fine life carrying the banner until 5:30pm every day. and in between the big shows you do little shows so your stuck after school with these people almost every day on the school year. i love theater
I just got into theater recently, and it’s helped me so much with my mental issues and I even found a friend group! And I can now proudly call myself a theatre kid!
12:17 oh you guys got to have dads come fix it? In my day there was a whole theatre tech class and we-with no prior training-built the sets ourselves. We had a table saw. We each got a five minute instruction on his to use it. remarkably no one got hurt the entire year.
As a costumer who led cabaret at my theater program, I had the same idea with the deterioration of the makeup. The coolest part was the Emcee who starts with an almost mime like makeup and and in I Don't Care Much the makeup gets totally messed up and she looks terrifying by the end of the show. And it was the funniest thing because we had about 5 shows a day for like a week so when we went out to this bagel place like we did every day for lunch everyone would give us looks like they were just terrified. Specifically with the MC everyone looked at her and then looked away like she would attack them if they looked too long. Cabaret was my favorite show I've ever done.
9:14 out of the three shows my school does each year we only have understudies for our fall play/musical. During our run of Singing in the Rain last spring our Don got sick and we had to cancel a night cause we didn’t have anyone to take his place :(
Lol this is totally me. 14:13 I auditioned for The Little Mermaid for my community play (I had no theatre experience, only singing), and I got Sebastien the crab. XD
bro i remember last year my school did legally blonde and like 2 or 3 days before the opening night, the girl that gives the dress to elle, the one elle wears to her date with warner, she got injured so my teacher asked if i knew her part and i did so it was very last minute. im so glad i payed attention. i was legit ensemble. oh and the voice of bruiser. yes i can bark like a dog. LMAO
The one at 14:14 is spot on for me. I am like this all the time lol. This is my second musical I’ve done, the first was Seussical and I was ensemble but now I’m in the Addams Family Musical and I got Alice, cast b and I was really shocked cuz it’s a big role. Today is our first performance and I’m going to be an ensemble today and then be Alys tomorrow, I’m nervous 😅!!
People who go "SHHHHHHHHH" anywhere in public when either a choir is waiting in the hall to be called in, or in the wings/backstage. ANY TIME, is sooooo annoying. Thats also one of the reasons I dropped one of my best friends.
I SAW THE LCVI SHOW!! It was amazing, it was my first time seeing a high school musical and I was not expecting for it to be that good. Also I have extra points because I already knew who played Regina
does anyone have any tips for theatre singing? i try it all the time and it just comes out sounding too high pitched or not “in my nose”, if that makes sense.
