Actor/writer HARVEY FIERSTEIN discusses taking over the role of Tevye in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF on Broadway and the new perspectives he brings to this revival (where he is soon to be joined by a new leading lady, Rosie O'Donnell) of the classic musical about Jewish peasant life in Russia before the revolution.

My first actual on Broadway show was Fiddler on the Roof with Harvey Fierstein and Andrea Martin. It was wonderful!

Let's be honest... I saw that production with Alfred Molina starting the run he was great. I've seen Zero, Bernardi, etc. Molina wasn't bringing in the $$$ they put in Harvey and suddenly cash

So many negative comments, and what for? So what if he does not have the voice of an Angel, or the grace of Gene Kelly, or God forbid he is a gay man in Theatre, a dying breed if ever there was one. He is Harvey Fierstein, a fucking Legend, and an absolute joy to witness.

I think that is the largest cable knit sweater I have ever seen anyone wear. I know Michael could have bought a smaller size. The source for the sweater must have only had size XXX left in stock. Good looking sweater but just huge on Michael.

@viewer608: He’ll grow into it. He’s never learned to do laundry correctly and puts his sweaters in the dryer. So after a couple of washing and dryings, it will fit fine. Also, he might be communicating ‘the bigger the sweater, the bigger the . . . “

Harvey Fierstein is a national treasure. What I would give to watch that man in "Fiddler on the Roof" isn't funny. And for shame on those critics wondering if a gay man can play Tevya. He's a fantastic actor. One of the very few I would pay Broadway theater ticket prices to see... in ANYTHING. I'd let that man read the phone book to me.

First thing they should "re-examen" on broadway are the ticket prices...if the inflation continues theatre going will become a bland amusement for the rich...yea..let's put on a socially relevant show for 200 $ a seat.....irony anyone?

My voice is melodious. Sang in choirs for years John Pickford. You are obviously a big Harvey Fierstein fan which is your choice, but his voice is like grinding glass.

Harvey Fierstein can't sing. His Popeye voice is fine for comedic non-singing roles but for 'Fiddler'? Obsurd!

He totally ruined The Catered Affair. The great movie is about the relationship between Bette Davis and Debbie Reynolds. Barry Fitzgerald is ten percent. Harvey insisted on Making it about the uncle. Harvey turned him gay and made 90 percent about the gay uncle and prejudice. Not Catered Affair. A shame

@faeryquene: With a name like “faeryquene” how can you be critical? Yes, it’s not a perfect voice but if he was perfect vocally, he wouldn’t be Harvey Fierstein.
