That last one seriously caught me off guard, all of the senior kids that I did shows with were so nice and supportive, one of them literally cried when I got the roll she convinced me to audition for after I said I wouldn't be good enough to get it, every single one of them was amazing, i loved those guys
THIS IS JUST A VENT NOT TARGETED AT ANYONE SPECIFICALLY OK YALL one of my biggest pet peeves is when the entailed actors act like any tech work is under acting. like without us u would be in ur pjs on stage with no props, set, mics, lights, sound, or costumes
I only recently started theater and I helped on three of the costumes and what I did on them took me a while, and I find it hard to imagine the work everyone else was doing. I respect the costume and prop people.
I focus on acting but I’ve done other tech stuff, I’ve always been of the impression that the actors were the LAST piece of the puzzle usually. Idk I’ve been trained to view everybody above me. Directors/managers interact with tech sometimes more than the actors I think it’s so strange to not see it that way. Every production I’ve been on, but every one BUT the cast actually knows whats really going on😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 so yeah, YALL r the backbone of our art fuck the rest. all love!!!
Absolutely agreed. I've worked just about everywhere in a theater except the tech booth, and every part is challenging and absolutely necessary for a good show. There totally can be an attitude of being better than, I think particularly in newer actors who don't realize the hard work that theater really is. But all parts, acting/tech/design/crew/direction/everything else is so necessary
@@LoLo1k2k3k I think it does depend on the director. At my school, tech and crew are considered but are usually secondary to performance. I think we usually strike a decent balance and I'm proud of that, the show that had the worst tech experience also had a terrible acting experience, but there's other places where acting can be the focus. And it can be the mindset of individual actors, too. I think especially newer actors can tend to overlook the work that goes into every part of theater. I was there a few years ago before I realized how fascinated I was by the larger whole of theater. I'm glad tech gets a good focus at your place, and I wish acting had a better one. But they're not saying that acting is secondary to tech, either. They're both equally important. A balance can and should be struck. But it's also been discussed in directing books I've read because even when the balance is technically struck perfectly, it can appear that it isn't to the crew and to the cast because you notice when the focus isn't on you far more than when it is. It's the director's performance, making sure no one is left behind and making sure they know they're not being left behind either. If you've done both, I'm guessing that's not what's happening here and it is a genuine problem, and I hope it's solved for you in the future. Both parts are equally important, which is what the commenter is saying. You need acting and you need tech. And they both deserve attention, and it's necessary for a show to go on. Just because in some people's mind, tech is secondary, and we acknowledge that, we aren't saying acting is secondary
11:16 i felt that i have so many dream roles like Veronica Sawyer, Ocean O’Connell Roosenberg, Mischa Bachinski, Eponine, Marius, and Velma (Heathers, Ride the Cyclone *x2* Les Miserables *x2* and Chicago)
14:50 I encountered one of these ppl before and I got the lead over them small victory’s like that make me believe that there is still hope in this world
OMG, the senior kids are no joke. lol jokes on them, I did one show in my high school theater program as a freshman after 8 years of mixed community and semi pro theater and vocal coaching. The cast list reveal was so funny. It was grease, and one girl expected sandy, and cried when I got her.
the last one was honestly so accurate, but not for that specific scenario. (i've only met 2 ppl i despise in my schools theater program everyone else is absolutely amazing.)
I can't believe it's been since kindergarten that I've been doing musical theater. I do miss little kindergartner me, innocent, just having fun. Where do the years go? Now my faves are Hamilton and Six. My innocence disappeared in middle school. Blame middle school boys for that 😅
I just did mamma mia and I was like “wait. that sounds like something I heard over and over again through the last four months,” glad someone also noticed
In the jukebox musical one then I was certain that he was going to start singing “Coz tonight will be the night that I will fall for you over again don’t make me change my mind” 😂
Omg I need to tell this to people that will listen I got cast as Jane Doe for my school's production of Ride the Cyclone, and for people that think it's easy to hit high notes, ITS NOT! I go home everyday with a sore throat and less of a will to live. Please be respectful to your sopranos. We get hated on and we hurt to❤
My dream roles are probably Mischa (Ride The Cyclone), Persephone (Hadestown) or Fates (Hadestown) or Heather Macnamara (Heathers) Drop your dream role in the replies!
I js finished matilda last month and we had completely different choreography 😭 but also i felt bad for my bsf bc he was Bruce and some ppl were laughing at him when he did the solo in revolting children😔
17:50.. I’m in a production of fiddler on the roof, and all the other people are much older than me, I’m the youngest that got in, and I’m so scared that this is gonna happen to me and that I won’t have any friends.. any advice?
tyy! it was so fun! there was another girl auditioning for veronica and she tried to ruin the show (she ended up getting heather d but im rlly happy she didnt purposefully mess her lines up or do anything like that)
