THEATRE NERD REACTS TO HAZBIN HOTEL - EPISODE 5 - DAD BEAT DAD 

That's one of Charlie's major flaws. Is that she's dramatically underestimating what's actually needed in order to help people. She has a very surface level understanding of mental health and therapy that can be very condescending and treating her guests childishly. She wants to help, but she actually doesn't have any of the tools or knowledge to do so.

I feel like Alistor hates Lucifer because he is so much stronger than him. He is one of the few people he cannot intimidate or play with with his sheer strenght. So he tries to bother him in another way: "Stealing" Charlie aways from him.

Alastor is 100% saying all that stuff about Charlie to piss of Lucifer. Al probably despises him for being more powerful, plus, it's theorized he made a deal with Lilith and is forced to protect the hotel. If he does care about Charlie, it's not much. Since he's so charming, people forget how manipulative and pure evil he is.

Something I've realized in this episode regarding Lucifer's depression and disregard for the hotel and the sinners while Charlie is clearly VERY invested in helping everyone is that for Lucifer hell is his punishment and sinners are the consequence of his actions while for Charlie hell is her home and the sinners are her people, that's why they have such a different outlook on things

“So… Lilith is single?” is the BEST reaction to finding out she and Lucifer split up

I love how despite the fact that Lucifer is pretty much top dog in terms of power, Alastor still keeps his, "you go low, I go lower" mentality. Vox wishes he had this kind of rivalry with Alastor.

Alastor almost definitely does not care. the running theory is that he sold his soul to Lilith and as such has to do as she says, including protecting her daughter. he is NOT even REMOTELY a good person.

Fun fact Lucifer is only short by Demon standards he is around 5 foot 10, its just that Demons tend to be VERY tall for example Charlie is 6 foot 6 and Alastor and Angel Dust are 7-8 feet tall. Angels tend to be shorter than Demons so it makes sense Lucifer would be seen as short, this also explains why Charlie is so "short" compared to most Demons its because she is half Angel

Alastor has died in the 1930ties. If we go by our time line, has been in Hell for over 100 years. Luzifer was there since it began, since the creation of Mankind, so roughly 5000 years (+ his life before as a Seraphim). He has seen so many Overlords come and go, so it does'nt surprise me that he never heard of the Radio Demon.

Jeremy Jordan was perfect for the role. More Than Anything is one of my fave songs from the show.and getting a glimpse into Alastors mystery was really interesting!! Plus it was nice to see how the hotel members appreciate all that Charlie is doing for them.

If you noticed when Lucifer was hugging Charlie, Alastor eye was twitching. He looks annoyed by that expression🤔

Alastor doesn't actually see Charlie as a daughter, he's just really good at picking up on people's triggers

Something to think about Charlie said Lucifer only calls when he's board or needs something. With Lucifer's personality, I can see him calling Charlie because he wants to be able to speak to her, but when asked why he was calling he just says, 'oh I was just board and decided to give you a call' cause he may have felt like he needed a reason other than a simple 'I wanted to speak to you' The important thing is Lucifer's comment when she calls him is 'it's the first time she's called you in years' so he has tried, but in a way that had her misunderstand his reasons, while she eventually stopped trying due to those misunderstandings building up

Can't believe we got the voices for both Varian and Spinel in the same episode! And, as always, Alastor being a smug troll and hijacking other people's songs is ALWAYS funny! 🤣 *But I am terrified for Husk after that one scene, though...* 😥

Alastor likely hates Lucifer because he's a potential threat to his influence over Charlie while being much more powerful So Alastor pulls the whole "I'm the dad who stepped-up" to manipulate Charlie and throw Lucifer off

My theory for the ducks is that he was fixated on the moment Charlie first laid eyes on one of his creations, the part where she sneaked in while he was working, and so he held on to that memory of her smile despite being estranged for a long time. There's also that line he sings, "I've missed that smile."

I identify way too much with Lucifer -the hyperfixation -the discomfort in unplanned social interactions -the not realizing how long its been since I've contacted my friends... - crippling anxiety

"that you fell to holy arms" implies he died during an extermination, not that he was involved in some holy bargain. Arms as in weapons.

It needs to be understood, Lucifer was not being dismissive of Charlie because he was a deadbeat or didn't care. Quite the opposite. He was trying to protect her. While Charlie believes that he was ok with the extermination, I doubt that was really the case. Lucifer used to be the ultimate dreamer but was crushed by the forces of heaven and his own failure. He was trying to prevent Charlie from getting her hopes up only to fail like he did.

Something worth noting is that while Charlie felt like Lucifer didn't want anything to do with her because he barely ever called her, Lucifer actually mentions how Charlie hadn't called him in YEARS, meaning Lucifer had so far always been the one to try and come forward in some capacity. It's a quick one-off line by Lucifer but gives quite an interesting perspective into the reasons why him and Charlie were so estranged at the start of the show, as it seems both parties are partially at fault.

Also, I’ve read somewhere a great way to describe Alastor’s attitude towards Charlie/the Hotel: he’s not loyal, he is territorial.

Allistair, according to the supplemental lore, was a serial killer in New Orleans before he died and came to Hell. He promptly started doing the same thing to Overlords, which explains his meteoric rise. The question of his actual feelings is still up for debate. Also, Vaggie has a very good reason for not wanting to go to Heavern, which you'll see shortly.

“I hope we get to see heaven” *The next episode being titled Welcome to Heaven* It might seem crazy what I’m bout to say-

(Scroll down for the tldr) A lot of people give Lucifer flak for being a bad parent (although obviously people understand him more by the end of this episode), and yet I've seen almost nobody say anything bad about Lilith despite her literally being equally as negligent... Like, at least Lucifer is AROUND. I think the lack of negative talk about Lilith from Charlie make people overlook how she's equally bad, if not moreso given that she never told anyone where she went. We HEAR of her accomplishments, but never see them, so I don't think that excuses her poor parenting. Heck, knowing that Luci is depressed and actively dislikes sinners at least explains his behavior. Like, most reactors will assume Lilith is protecting Charlie from afar (which could be true ofc) with literally no reason to truly believe anything we hear about her, yet Lucifer is doing the same thing, but because he isn't directly involved in Charlie's life (JUST LIKE LILITH), gets called out, despite not ghosting her for 7 years and visibly caring about her. Tldr: There's no proof of Lilith being a good parent and yet everyone (I've seen) thinks she's this amazing off-screen character (which is possible) while people shit on Lucifer (initially) for things they BOTH do: being absent and negligent.

I am so glad they made Lucifer such a caring dad. Sure he's kind of a doofus who isn't exactly good at this, but he is legit trying and does truly love Charlie. Also Hearing Alastor use profanity is GOLD. That’s how you know he’s really upset because nobody really gets to him.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nifity actually isn't under contract with Alastor but just tags along with him because she likes bad boys.

One thing is that we have Charlie's perspective on things, most likely she was only quoting what Adam said about Lucifer getting permission to exclude hell born demons from extermination. She was however unaware of him trying to get the extermination canceled completely, because as we have seen before they dont really talk much. They lack a lot of communication and I have a theory that Charlie and Lucifer were kept apart or Lucifer fell so hard in his depression that he didnt think he was worth his daughters attention or thought he wasnt good for her. While Alastor might care for Charlie I doubt he actually cares THAT much for her. (we'll see if it changes in the future) This was mostly a way to fuck with Lucifer, because Alastor cant intimidate him with strength. I dont think Lucifer is that bad of a dad. I remember it was said once that if he was graded he would get a B+ as a dad. Which is fair, he fucks up a lot, but this makes him feel more relatable because everybody fucks up, but he also tries the best he can even with his bad mental state. Again not perfect but its soemthing. Honestly I want to know more about the whole splitting up thing between Lucifer and Lilith from their perspective.

So Alistor, imo doesn’t care about Charlie or the Hotel more than what he can get out of them. The hotel is a source of amusement, and Charlie is heiress to Hell who he can possibly manipulate or maybe strike a contract with. The leading theory is he’s in his own deal with Lilith, possibly forced to look after Charlie. But that’s just speculation. He goes heavy on the “Dad” thing infront of Lucifer cause he knows he can’t win a fight otherwise.

Alastor woke up and chose violence

I think by the end, Alastor looked, if not happy, at least contented, that Charlie and Lucifer did manage to reconnect. He had a soft non-threatening smile for the duration of the song. I headcanon that, if what Mimzy said was true about Alastor being a softie, he may have hated Luci at the beginning but if anything, his actions indirectly gave Luci that little push to bond more with his daughter.

Charlie complains about Lucifer only calling when he needs something, then turns around, and calls him about something she needs.

Lucifer is fallen angel. He tried to help people by giving them the apple in Eden and possibily other things as mentioned in the intro but instead created hell and got cast out of heaven to hell, that seems like a good reason for depresion to me

From what I've read, fallen souls killed by normal means are able to remanifest through an excruciating reforming process a bit like Captain Jack from Torchwood. It's only through the use of angelic powers, or other obscure means used by demons like Alastar that are able to destroy a soul permanently. So likely it's very much could be the exact same loan sharks from the previous episode, or the way Sir Pentious is able to always have followers after constantly losing them in the first two episodes.

1 thing I love is how everyone assumed that despite being as much of a horrible evil piece of shit as he is theres no way Alastor could be nearly as evil as Lucifer and then it turns out he is so much worse

It's impossible to tell how much of Alastor's comments about Charlie are completely false, or if he's mixing in a tiny bit of truth to help sell it. Based on his reaction to Mimsy's attitude at the end of this episode, and some moments in the next couple episodes, hint that he might actually care about her, even if it's just a little bit. Alastor is a psychopath, but he's not immune to human emotion, like his petty feud with Vox, the way he's clearly pissed off when Carmilla dismisses his absence at the meeting, and how pissed off Lucifer makes him. I honestly hope that he does care about her, cause it's a great dynamic to be completely honest.

I can always tell who has or doesnt have "daddy issues" based on the "More than anything" song. If you're crying and loving the song so much then... most likely: daddy issues. But in this case, you passed it over like "aw thats sweet they are reconnecting" meanwhile I'm sobbing after seeing it for the 100th time

Alastor does not care about the hotel or Charlie, he doesn’t believe in her cause and just sticks around the hotel to watch everything fall apart for his amusement. He only pulls the dad card to mess with Lucifer because he hates that Lucifer didn’t know who he was (Alastor is the type of person who wants everyone to know who he is)

The Title if you didn't figure it out already is a pay on words about Dead beat Dad which Lucifer lately has was kind of acting like. He's definitely not as bad as most but definitely wasn't the best father after Him and Lilith split

I’ll tell you now that no angels lie in this series. It seems like they literally are unable to lie but can omit, dance around, or avoid the truth.

I think Alastor was threatened by Luci. He comes in promising Charlie everything, so he has to remind her, that he's been there and loyal. Also there is the part where Luci if doing his Violin solo, walking towards him, and Alastor actually takes a step back. Although it could also be that he stepped back to dodge the falling piano

I think Alastor does care a little bit, but I think many people are overestimating how much he actually cares He is clearly just trying to show up Luci in this episode for the most part, not actually care about Charlie. He even gives the smug side eye when Nifty hugs him during the song in a "look how good I am" way, not in a "I actually care about you so much" way

I think it was stated that Lucifer has an obsession with ducks because he sees himself as the “Ugly Duck of Heaven,” seeing as he was cast down. He wants to become a swan again.

Lucifer is my all time favorite, his personality and everything about him is so cute xd

From what I know, Mimzy was supposed to be a guest at the hotel but she got cut from the main cast. I assume this is because of the limited amount of episodes plus the fact that the fans had years to grow attached to the characters in the pilot...well at least those that have lines. Mimzy is in the pilot and can be seen when Charlie is singing 'Inside of Every Demon is a Rainbow'. Her original characterization was 'madly in love with Alastor', but I prefer how she is now. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm interested to see if they ever do anything more with her.

Rather than talking about sins and such Viv bases her characters problems straight from the DSM V (psychology's diagnostic manual). And Alastor exhibits traits from all four of the so called Dark Tetrad. Narcissism, Psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and Sadism. And yet he seems constrained. Its the contract the person that has his soul has on him. And if he is being constrained then that means its someone that has good intentions that is holding his soul. They are keeping him from being as cruel as he clearly wants to be.

I find it funny how people don't get the idea that the title of the episode is "Dead beat dad" and the fact that it is satire, Lilith had no face because evil has no face and there were no ducks Lucifer didn't have depression he just worked a lot, Lilith took her from him making him go into a deep depression because Lilith and Charlie were all that mattered to him, and he lost them both thus why in the song they both sing "not be pulled apart again", also look when the angelic spears are pointed at him, he doesn't care but when they turn to her, he is horrified.

Ok, so I’m NOT the only one who thought that Lucifer thought Alastor was Charlie’s boyfriend…but she figured out the actual insecurity a lot faster than I did

Notice how both of Lucifer's songs are centered on pride, and that is a really good touch. We're carrying the tradition of the sinlords' songs being Lulu takes pride in his power and at first bargains with Charlie using it. But during the last act of the other song, it's his daughter he takes pride in more than anything, proud to know that she really did love him and just wanted to make things better like he wanted to.

Alastor cares a bit for Charlie, and maybe even the hotel, but not enough to be considered a father, he was just trying to get under Lucifer's skin because he doesn't like not being the most powerful being in the room. I think. I like your videos btw, can't wait for the next one!

The thing that people keep missing is the line: "She hasn't called YOU in years." It's easier to take Charlie's side because we've been following her this whole time and seeing things from her perspective. But we just met Lucifer and immediately found out he has depression and that really messes the mind when it comes to people. Imagine going through a divorce and have your family not reach out to you first for YEARS. At least he called all those months ago, but it's likely that the only reason he didn't do more than assign work to Charlie even though he's so excited to hear from her is because he thought: "She's never reached out to me first. She doesn't want me in her life. I'm bothering her, aren't I? I should only call her when I really have to. She doesn't need me anymore. I'm being a burden." It doesn't help that when Charlie talked to her dad, instead of understanding, she presented passive aggression to his struggles during the call. It's a boatload of miscommunication! Because Lucifer may have his reasons, but the thing is, he and his daughter hardly talked enough to explain them and so Charlie only thinks he makes these terrible decisions on a whim. Like she said, she doesn't really know him at all. A relationship is a two way bridge and BOTH of them played a part in their communication's downfall.

Lucifer not knowing Alastor, alongside some of the other things he says in this episode, pretty much leads me to believe that his stance on Sinners in general is "I don't care". Notice how Charlie referring to the Sinners as "our people" pretty much has him waving her off immediately. However, the moment she refers to them as HER people in "More Than Anything" is the moment he almost instantly switches up and decides to support her.

I would call Husker a gargoyle. His catlike features and wings have been found on several such features on old buildings.

Ah good you’ve seen the inherent flaw in Charlie’s idea, her running a halfway house is basically the same as someone who’s never touched a drop of alcohol in their life running an AA meeting and telling everyone “just don’t drink it’s that easy”.

Alestor is typical of someone in control of everything, he is the guy pulling up the strings so when someone stronger than him step in, someone that can not be controlled by him, he tried to hit on the weak spot of that person which is Lucifer's parenting skill issue so that Alestor has control over Lucifer weak spot (not completely control Lucifer but rather make him do or not do by triggering his weak spot)

Lucy easily became my number 1 fave. He's such an awkward, duck obsessed, depressed short king. Having been through depression, I could see the signs in him. He's not trying to be a bad dad. He's trying to be a good dad. But depression makes you pull away from loved ones convinced they are happier without you there to burden them (how he never really calls her that often and is so happy when she calls him), a heavy focus on small things (his duck obsession), hazy mind and difficulty remembering/paying attention (how he doesn't remember things from past conversations or sort of zones out while struggling to pay attention to Charlie on the hotel tour), the suicidal idealizations (his comments about the railing), and the constant negativity (depression literally turns all your thoughts negative on you). But compared to Alastor, who is very much using Charlie for his own goals, Lucifer actually loves Charlie and wants her safe and happy.

Alistair isn't being protective, he just wants to be the only one Charlie can count on for his own reasons
