I did once, he has some melee attacks it's just painful to pull this off.

Either practice a lot, or get the first 2 inputs correctly then mash q and m1 till it works. Idk if the mash technique will remain unfixed though.

but now it comes out slower

I practiced a ton in the training area. In general, once you get a rhythm for it you'll do a lot better, just keep in mind that the first hit after you land the Rave is guaranteed, your inputs should be timed based off of the second slash. However for now, once you get the first 2 inputs correct, you can just mash q and m1 and it'll work (tho this might be fixed later)
