TheChazz.com - Mercedes CLS 63 AMG W218 Downpipe Install (RWD) RaceIQ Pipes 7/10 Fitment Took 10Hrs with 2 people and a full shop (Lift, Tools, Ect) Thanks to @Race.KC for the help!
Great video. Nice job and great attention to detail. I'm thinking of doing the Redstar HJS200 catted exhaust system on my CLS63 and this gives my a great idea of what the challenges will be.
Shouldn't be reving these engines cold either. And they take over 6-7 minutes to warm up at s minimum. Oil temp is engine warm up, not coolant. Coolant is warm after 2-3 min.
this is a great write up video, you should label the title as downpipes and engine mount replacement for m157and m278 engine. youd get alot more views on it. thanks for the video.
Man! That's a hell of a process. I would rather drop the subframe with the engine and transmission together. That process would have taken shorter time.
Since you should just drop the motor, do turbos at same time but I forgot this is a nearly 100k miles car. You gotta be stupid or rich or both to modd one of these after 75k miles and 7-8+ yrs old.
Do the engine or trans need to be dropped to replace the downpipes? On my W205 2020 C63S, transmission had to be dropped when I had my downpipes installed
Geeez!! what a pita. And its 3x more difficult on the newer awd models. From what I've heard and read the bridge pipes aren't worth doing nor are the dp's. Down pipes add noise and exhaust fumes but only 3-4 hp thus not really worth it in these car's. $5k-6k total in parts and labor is just not worth it. Abd its ridiculous to pay $2k-3k for a section of exhaust tubing less than 3 ft long. Why so much $?? Because its a 7-10 yr old merc. Absolutely rubbish. Same amount of exhaust tubing would cost under $600 for a $50-80k sports car or muscle coupe. I just don't know why people would waste so much $ on a old Benz or Bimmer that's guaranteed to cost half the value of the car in maintenance over 2 yrs. And once you get over 70k-75k miles it becomes a no-go proposition unless you've got mucho-mucho $ on stand-by. These 5.5 V8's are not reliable just like the 6.2 NA motor they replaced from the older NA 63 series vehicles. Those 6.2's were a nightmare. And before any idiot goes there those old V8's were 6.2L not a 6.3.... They just badged the vehicles 63 to pay homage to the original early 70's V8 that was the actual 6.3L V8. I don't know why Benz could bore it out to 6.3 in the new ones.
Thank you for your service ! Keep the cls videos coming ! Great detail and video quality. Do some general upkeep maintenance videos next, not a lot of those around. Oil change, filters, brake fluid, brake pads etc. keep up the great videos.
4matic, just forget down pipes. Not worth it in power gains or exhaust fumes either. Abd if you live CA, well, no exhaust upgrades are legal after 2020 and no intake upgrades either. Thst means you must have stock air filters. I took a friend's car in to smog in Ventura County near Thousand Oaks W of Van Nuys about 22 minutes or 16 miles, in 2020. It was a 2015 CLS63. All stock, older guy in his mid 60's and the smog tech popped the air boxes open to check the filters. I told him not to do that, he said its part of our job. Anyway the car had factory sized K&N filters in the boxes. He failed and flagged it. It had no resonator either but they didn't catch that. Smog is just a state revenue generation scam. Yes its a SCAM. What pollution does end up in CA comes from the worst polluting nation in the world, cyna. Spelled that way for a reason.
@@elescorpiong I've seen about 12 4matics done and all I can say is, NO you can't keep the motor in on AWD 2014+ models. Not unless you want a 18-24 hr job. Your nuts, especially since experienced German vehicle techs say the motor and or trans or both need to cone out on 4matics. No short cuts are there to take unfortunately.
