Some behind the scenes: The Guide to DPSing may be the hardest script I've ever had to write. Being a healer main and tank secondary allowed those scripts to come much easier. Oddly, there aren't THAT MANY solid stereotypes of those two roles. It made the whole process easier. With DPS however, there are dozens of bad stereotypes that, for the most part, aren't really true. Facerolling, always standing in telegraphs/fire, not caring about anything other than DPS, being a huge d*** about everything... That really hasn't been my experience with most DPS. Granted, they do happen, and of course when they do, you remember them well. Hence the stereotypes. Coming from a healer and tanking background, it was VERY tempting to write a script based around these, essentially playing into the "DPS are arrogant idiots" fallacy. The ORIGINAL version of my script was very much based on this. A lot of jokes like "Stand in the red! Red means stop moving!", "Standing in fire makes you hit harder!", "Be a d*** to anyone not using the perfect gear and rotation!" It all felt wrong. Very wrong. So the entire thing got rewritten. Playing a DPS for a few months and watching my wife play as a DPS for forever, I wanted to sympathize with DPS players who do their actual jobs, yet still get harassed SIMPLY BECAUSE they're DPS. It's really sad to watch. MMO players can be some of the worst people out there. You hear about it alot in FPS and MOBAs, but MMO players are right up there with them. And DPS tend to catch the brunt of it, simply because there are a lot of them. With numbers comes some idiots, but the majority are not. This video was meant for the majority. The ones who may not be top tier raiding min/maxers, but are still competent and know their jobs. Not everyone needs to be top tier. And no one gets there overnight. To those... this one's for you.
As someone who just started MMOs and is tanking in groups while they learn how to DPS this is spot on from start to finish. The gear checks, the number generator crap, all of it is great. "Every DPS class has a rotation of skills for achieving maximum damage output." *Casts Staff water 3 and then earth 2 in GW2* Lol
Good thing people don't realize tanks and healers have to do the exact same stuff as DPS and heal/tank on the side. Keep blaming the DPS players if they don't stun even though your healer has no clue what that word even means! Makes my life a lot easier.
That first script was a low hanging fruit. The choice was solid, good job. But it could've been better if you had optimized joke rotation properly and geared for max goofs.
Actually, those stereotypes ARE accurate of the average DPS player. Unless you're playing with more experienced people/people who care about following mechanics, that's what you're going to get almost every time. I wish it wasn't true, but, sadly, it is.
"If the tank dies, it's the healer's fault. If the healer dies, it's the tank's fault. If the DPS die, it's their own damn fault." -- Quote: Some awesome guy.
Well if dps dies that means either tank is not keeping of aggro and/or healer is not healing and there's also situations where it's the controllers (supports) fault cause they didn't give enough power and keep up crowd control. Dang he's right it is a vicious cycle of blame lol
My great grandfather told me of this Leader of the Hive that would, at some point, release a DPS guide to finalize the trilogy with the tank and healer guide he watched as a kid, and to wait, patiently, for it's glorious arrival. It's here grandpapa. It was worth the wait. You can rest now, grandpapa. You can rest.
I'm unsure why you are indicating that is good information for new dps players. As a healer normally I was under the impression that this was normal behaviour for any dps no matter how long they have played for
@@Issengrim Scream as hard as you can, repeat boss skill names five to six times in a row because your party is bunch of blind idiots. Shout at the healers to give absolute commands, but be specific like "HEAL ME YOU DUMBASS" so they know they need to work harder. Don't forget to tell them they got carried by you and they're completely worthless, and nobody wants them if you're not here to carry their sorry noob ass.
Ah yes, I relate to this so much xD Especially the "you aren't special" part. When I play healer (and lately a bit of tank), I can pretty much fuck up as much as I want, and while some people may get salty, it's never even a question if they should keep me around and give me another chance...and another...and another...and in the end when we finally manage to do it, praise me, because risking to not have a rare healer/tank AT ALL is worse than putting up with one that is a bit on the bad side. On DPS, I can carry the entire party by killing stuff before the crappy healer has to show how much he fails at healing, prevent mechanics that would wipe us, save other DPS that thought it was a smart idea to step into death traps, and so on...and there will be ZERO praise for any if it. But you can be sure your ass gets kicked out the second you make the tiniest mistake because there are 80 others in line behind you, waiting for their chance .-. And somehow still, people play it the most because "healer and tank have too much responsibility, I don't want responsibility".
I almost never got flamed as a dps, even when I was playing like a dumb ass or trolling. It may also be because I play dps classes with rather high utility and the fact I almost only grouped with at least one irl friend and often more when queuing for dungeons and raids, so we had more weight on the party.
This is making me miss City Of Heroes for some reason. Probably because when making a group, the game didn't care if you had no healer or tank and it could of still worked out. Also 8 masterminds just sitting in the back watching the chaos of their 48+ minions do all their dirty work was just amusing. While your computer screams bloody murder.
It's finally out! Thanks Hive.... I have now watched it after years of waiting. Very well made. I bet this was really hard to make! Me and my partner love your videos :)
another tip: always be hitting something. More hits means more numbers and more numbers means more damage. And more damage means things die. your group may tell to move out of "the bad" but if doing so means less time slashy slashy, stabby stabby (or blasty blasty, boomy boomy for you casters) then promptly ignore their warnings and remember TNYAMAYNT. If for some reason you "die" please refer to Lesson #6.
ah these are all great and super accurate.... in other words, no matter your role, you will be yelled at and hated for something. love it :) By the way, congrats on the Legends of Aria vid narration.
i mostly play tanks, though i've decided i should start trying DPS classes. but this guide made me grin loudly to myself, as it is late and people are sleeping.
Hivey I'm a little upset... your tip about dps meter you forgot to say "you should link this every single time you barely start doing better than everyone else" Great vid ^_^ love these guides always bring a smile to my face
I.. just couldn't complete this video.. so much of a reminder why I have quit Guild after Guild.. and ultimately EQ altogether. I loved that game until they used DPS meter mods in all the raids.. then groups.. It became apparent that I was NOT a min-maxer trying to squeeze the most DPS but as lazy casual player.. that was it for the game. I I played EQ from it's open Beta. No more.
You know instead of stopping playing the game you like you should have just tried to get better at playing it. It's not that hard to get good if you just put in a little time reading guides and working on your rotation.
Hey, i'm very new here, just subscribed to be exact, but i notice that your main goal is MMO, and i didn't saw anything about EVE online in your channel? there is any reason why?
@@PressStartToLaugh well, that's a shame, i really think that EVE is a great MMO, you have to be awake to play it but it is one of the best for me... Also, i didn't see anything about RF Online ( Rising Force Online) too; Don't you like it either?
And my favourite class of all time is the Age of Conan dark templar. to properly tank you need to be DPS built. more DPS means more life steal and higher agroo generation.
Yay the last guide to roleplay any MMO and Obtain Victory, Honor and Fame ( Female?!nvm)!!... Screw support classes, who need them if we have DPS è.é!!
If you want a DPS oriented MMO you gotta review Phantasy Star Online 2. Not normally available to the west, but I'm sure a simple Google search for "arks-layer" will lead you in the right direction for an English patch. :v
damn... apparently DPS are the most difficult and rewarding out of every class..... thats the first I heard of such a thing. was there media coverage of this?.. shit, dumb question... of course there had to of been because this is some huge news...
Oddly enough in the mmo I play pwi there's hit a stage where the DPS are REPLACING the tanks either coz of the agro control skills being very poor or simply coz a lot of people think max vit = good tank, and therefore low damage. Mind you theses same DPS are still a dime a dozen and like 80% of the server will have an assassin alt (the one that ends up as the barb replacement most of the time), so if someone of too low a gear joins that's a sin ^^ they get la boot.
Something seems wrong here, you forgot about the number oh and the numbers, do not forgot about the number, I pretty sure you didn't mention the numbers. Argo could be important as long as it does not effect you numbers you can skip it that what you healer for right, same for the red dots.
So i just spent waaaay too much time decoding the cypher picture, its pretty anti-climactic it says: "Order 1 Kill Connie Talbot she remotely watches Akiyoshi Kurono - the kind in Japan - without his permission and modifies his life ugly against his happiness her website: instagram" and the last 3 letters are up in the air because its cut off, it doesnt make much more sense, I feel like its a zoomed in photo and we are missing a couple words in the middle, so that was pointless but fun, and its 1am so i go bed now
