I don't think he's even smart enough to defend his assertions that succinctly. He just repeats that everything in the Bible is the word of God and then he says random things about what the Bible says. He doesn't understand the concept of evidence, let alone the value evidence has when asking questions. If he had said, "the Bible is completely true because it was written by God, who tells us in the Bible that everything in the book is true," that would have been circular reasoning but still would have come off sounding more like a reasoned argument than anything the man actually said.

I love Matt like I love Simon Cowell, he tells the truth, brutally when necessary, and doesn’t suffer any BS from idiots. I've been an atheist all my life. I just discovered Matt only about 6 months ago, and in that time I have learned so much from him (and many other hosts and guests on TheLine and ACA). He has given clarity to ideas I was unsure about, provided me with "ammunition" for my discussions with theists, helped me to hone my skepticism, improved my vocabulary and my understanding of logical fallacies, and even motivated me to read the Bible again (more "ammo"). Except, religion is not mutually exclusive with science. I can create a religion based on science. For example, the Universe is GOD, and the Universe wants us to wash our hands before we eat, because the Universe has revealed through science that there are microbes that stick to our hands and can make us sick if our hands are constantly dirty. I can do this with many other things. Review the scientific consensus on a top, and then teach it to my followers as a "revelation" from Universe GOD through the scientific method. In conclusion, I can create a religion where (1) the Universe is GOD and (2) the only way to know GOD is through the scientific method. Science and religion hand in hand. LOL

Grew up in the church southern baptist and went to a catholic school for 2 years(worst years ever) but I remember even as a child my bullshit alarm was just going crazy. When people ask me why I’m not a Christian I just say my brain won’t allow me to. I’m a huge history nerd and once you learn about the politics of the time period then it’s fairly easy to understand why Christianity took off the way it did. That's important. If a healthy young person can supply, good lungs, heart, kidneys, eyes, and dozens of transplant parts, then the government should have the right to take the person and harvest them where the needs of the many are more important than the one. The bible doesn't say even one iota about the big bang, objectively, because it was written thousands of years prior to any scientific theory so it's literally impossible for it to say anything at all about it and when you actually read it it objectively doesn't say anything about it and doesn't even attempt to apply any scientific lingo, calculations nor is there any references to any modern theories in the margins of the thing. And the only thing described in the verse is the assumed progression of things coming into being based on their observations of the Day Cycle. First you can't see anything, then you can see a little bit as the sun rises but isn't up yet. You can see some morning fog and as the light gets brighter it shines through the fog and you see some of the land, then finally you can see the sun is now up but it's light rose before it. Then you can make out trees and scarce small bushes as you look out over the land, after which you see animals get up to graze and drink from the water, then next you see fellow man get up in the day to do their thing and go about their day, etc. That's literally what's described. Same thing later when they make the very basic observation of the sky and see no clear limits to it then literally describe the observation of the "expansive view" itself as like the bronze being hammered out under their hammers. If they were as well understood in any of the things people read into this, why even use Hammers over better terminology to describe ex expansion of space. 🤷‍♂️ Obviously Folks are reading modern concepts into these pages that were Never there Nor ever ment to be there. 💁‍♂️

Unless you want to justify a particular action/activity/proclivity A theory by it’s very definition cant be proven, you believe in something that can’t be proven and I believe in something that can’t be proven, the only difference between us is how we decide to live. I have a higher power to answer to You have only the law of man, where technically you can justify anything as long as it’s permitted and or consensus is been made. At the worst the laws I impose on myself are arbitrary, but if I’m right then when I die I go to heaven. I got sabotaged by these religious crazies. They homeschooled me and taught me right up until it was time for college that "God created the earth in 7 days", and fanatically believed that ACTUAL science was satanic and secular. So, when I get thrust into taking preliminary exams for college, because luckily they both died, I find out that SUPRISE. I'm the STUPIDEST one in the class- I don't know even the basic evolutionary theory or names for anything when it comes to biology, or earth history. They screwed me over horribly. It's sick. My only option was to try learning 6 grades worth of ACTUAL science in one semester or fail, and I was living on my own at the time and needed to work. So I dropped out. That's also why I left the church- these self righteous nosy busybodies that my "parents" involved in my life then thought it was their place to look down on me and judge me for being a bad influence. "Look, he's so lazy and undisciplined, he even quit school!". Religion is a CANCER.

I quit caring when he couldn't articulate what kind of class he is taking and what it's for. . . . Well of course he took critical thinking. And thinks the basics are basically the end all be all. And people can disagree with them because they're correct. . . . When they're not. The arugements they go over are actually really bad. Might of been good back then. But not anymore. Even gave arguements I came up with off the cuff. Those arugement where the exact arguements showing the issues with those arguements. Yet dude still tried to claimed that he is both right and I'm not wrong... but disagreed with the fact he didn't prove anything or show evidence for anything. @digbycrankshaft7572 if only it were that simple. Many things are taken for granted amongst many atheists. A. They think supernatural things cannot exist. This is a meaningless term to begin with, and it's self defeating. B. They have a strong bias towards the truth of science. Science is no doubt a valuable tool, but many atheists are taking it purely on the word of others in authoritative positions. It is not necessarily unwise to do that, but ironic nonetheless. C. They have a strong bias in ignoring evidence that is not as concrete as possible, ie. Clearly testable and repeatable. In fact, Gollum sees Sauron and reports Sauron is missing a finger on one hand, consistent with the account of Isildur's severing the Ring from Saturn's hand in the Silmarillion. Presumably the Nazgul and any of Sauron's other servants in Barad dur also saw him, though Tolkien never has the Dark Lord appear directly on stage in the story.

My first Christian mentor, back in 1990 was living in a fantasy world, but he didn't claim that "every word in the Bible is true". He had an excuse for why it wasn't literally infallible in every word, but he acknowledged that the text had been "corrupted" over the centuries since it was first written. Basically, he thought God allowed Satan to change the text for the same reason Jesus spoke in parables. He also was certain that I was one of the worthy and God's elect.

Except that they aren't. Top scientific and creative minds throughout history have being theists. The mind is incredibly complex, and very good at compartmentalizing to protect and maintain one's identity. Going: "Gosh, they're so religious they have to be stupid in every aspect of their lives" is on the same level as "Gosh, without a religious belief you must be commiting crimes all the time" Yes, it tends to correlate with poor epistemology in some aspects, but not all.

Flath earthers, anti vaxers, truthers, anthropogenic climate chang deniers, etc. Heck, poor epistemology also happens with things that are correct as well. How many pro vax people know how vaccines actually work? How many people who believe the earth is a spheroid know how the shape and dimensions have been calculated? To whomever is doing the editing: why do Jimmy and Matt's videos have all these jarring cuts? There doesn't appear to be any do-overs or retakes. The videos just have cuts for no apparent reason, sometimes mid-sentence, and they are frequent, especially when Matt is talking. Maybe this is a stylistic choice, but to me, they are unnecessary and a distraction, enough of one to compel me to comment. Otherwise, I always enjoy hearing Matt and Jimmy go back and forth with theists. Keep up the good work!

Poor Amene, even stuffs up his definition of belief. 6:20 "....the 2 Wright brothers, wait to see evidence to fly..." Ummm, Bats, birds and then there were kites, paper planes and man made gliders. Plus all the other inventors attempting powered flight, there was a lot of intermediate steps. They saw evidence, they basically added an engine and accomplished powered flight. Apparently that was one of his best arguments for belief.
