In 1980, a group of ice hockey players in Minnesota were looking for a way to practice during the summer.[1] Scott and Brennan Olson formed the company Rollerblade, Inc., to sell skates with four polyurethane wheels arranged in a straight line on the bottom of a padded boot.[1] In 1988, Rollerblade introduced the first aggressive inline skate, the Rollerblade Lightning TRS. Aggressive inline skating developed as an organized sport in the early 1990s.[2] In 1994 the National Inline Skate Series, better known as NISS was launched as the first aggressive skating competition series. Promoters Rick Stark and Mark Billik sold Taco Bell on sponsoring the series for $150,000 and a six stop series was born. NISS, went strong for 5 years holding contests in Los Angeles, New York, Rome and Brazil. NISS was the first series to put aggressive inline on television with an ESPN deal for the 1994 series and later moving the competition series to PRIME TICKET-Fox Sports. The Aggressive Skaters Association (ASA) was formed by a number of aggressive inline skaters in 1995 as a forum to develop rules governing competitions and equipment.[2] The sport was included in the first ESPN X-Games in 1995 and included vertical ramp and street event competitions.[3] It reached its height in popularity in the late 90s, with mainstream movies like Disney's Brink! and other films. The brand "Senate", run by Arlo Eisenberg and several other prominent skaters, enjoyed mainstream popularity during the 1990s.
Founded by company owners/skating legends Brian Shima, Jon Julio, and Kato Mateu and supported by all major skate companies, the World Rolling Series (WRS) links together the best skaters, event organizers, retailers and skate parks and aims to "create a tighter knit community, increase overall awareness and set a higher standard for aggressive rollerblading." The WRS circuit started in 2009 with 10 established professional contests in France, Netherlands, England, Spain, Argentina, Australia and the United States. In 2012, WRS included 100+ amateurs and professional events in over 20 countries.

Thanks for having me on so I can nerd out a bit on skate technology and sizing. I should also mention that I skate the US 10 Roces M12 for reference so very close fit wise between the Shmedium US 9-9.5 Them 909, US 8-9 Razors Cult (with the right liner and insole combo), and the US 10 Roces M12 which I actually also can use the US 9-9.5 Intuition Premiums with Superfeet insoles in surprisingly.

I remember as a kid riding some white roces in the 90s my feet grew into. This is BEFORE the soul plate and besides what issues one would have on em... they felt AMAZING. I skate a size 9 cult today.

Thanks, really helpful for me as I also skate US 10 M12 (with M v2 Intuitions or 9-9.5 premiums). What you described is very encouraging.

I’ve never skated Them skates before and I thought the schmedium would be my size being a 267 MP. After some feedback from people who got the schmediums early I realized I might need a small. So I changed my order last minute before they shipped. Glad I did because the length is on point and I feel like it could be even tighter laterally. I would’ve been swimming in the schmediums. I would go so far to say that someone with a boney feet like me with a 270 MP could fit the small with intuitions.

All day. I actually fit tri’s SM beer shells with a razor thin second skin pretty well. But intuitions are def a no-go

I skate the 909s with RL1s size 8 small 🐚. The RL1s fit better in 908s same sm 🐚 though with 909s there is liner slippage but still works nice.

After hearing this, I'm curious if I could downsize to a small instead...?

Wonder how they fit compared to Blanks 9.5
@Martz604
@Martz604 8 месяцев назад
I also have the US 9-9.5 RB Blank SK skates and the Shmedium Them 909s might be a touch longer, you can feel it slightly in the toes but still very close. The Blanks are noticeably a wider feeling shell but I have only skated mine maybe three times so your mileage may vary.

Hey man, I’m new to skating and I love the THEM 909s but I’m struggling with sizing. I measured my foot out to be just around 265mm. Would I be swimming in the shmediums, and should I opt for the small? I don’t get mondo sizes at all, cause I’m a U.S. Men’s 10.5/11 normally.

I would recommend getting a small shell for sure. As I mentioned in the video, I am a 278mm and the shmedium is perfect. The internal shell length of the shmedium is 289mm and the internal shell length of the small is 279mm which would be as close to perfect as you'd probably get with the Them 909 shell.

@@Martz604 Thanks for the reply. The small shell for the 909 ended up being the perfect length but waaay too narrow for my 12cm wide foot, but the intuition liner is incredible so i took it from my 909 and put it into a roces fifth element shell. That combo is much nicer and after a little heat molding its the best fit i could've asked for.

HELLP!!! I got them today and the left foot is touching the edge a bit painful but can ride . Is anything I can do it to make it better fit ? Also no point in sending back and get the medium ? Tks

I wouldn’t give up immediately, sounds uncomfortable but within the realm of resolution. This will sound weird, but try it - thin ass socks. It makes a difference. Sometimes profound. Try cheap dress socks. I use them anytime I need to squeeze in and it often helps. If you happen to have a thicker shock absorber, it will lift your heel up and bring your toes back some. Breaking the skates in may be painful, it often is, but it also may be what’s needed. There’s more remedies (heat gun/tennis ball, thinner liners (myfit second skins/ intuitions) etc etc. That being said, it is possible that none of this may work. Ultimately it’s your call. Best of luck friend.

If you are able to find cheap my fit second skin liners they should fit fine. They may honestly be pretty good with the stock liners.
