Yup. And I'm an 80s baby. Barely pushing 40. My late grandmother introduced me to this song. Dancing in her kitchen with her as she cooked breakfast! Miss those days.
I'm a generation after you but love the 60's music that I remember, being played, in the hollows of my mind. Was Mac's on M St. or Wisconsin? My stompin grounds in the early 80's

I think there ain't none other song so perfectly done to clear away things. Incredible what humans can do with instruments, voice and most of all, SOUL !
Going back a looong time but when I was in 7th grade in OHenry Jr. High in Austin, TX, the very last day of school, 1965, they let a band set up in the cafeteria before school. I remember it was the first time I ever heard a live rock band play and this is the song I remember. It was awesome!!
congrats pal 4 all of you, had that lucky times, never forget it, cuz that times made the persons we r now. and we have the mission to give that legacy to the youth.
I love the angst of Van Morrison singing voice. Priceless 60s Music. I'm a 60s baby born in '68. When I was yet unborn my mom who was a music lover listens to the music of those days frequently. When I was born from toddler to adulthood I was perplexed why I like 60s music more than any current pop music while growing up. I truly love all genre of music from the '60s. Weird eh?
Not really. I did see these guys at the local provincial Working Men's Club on their Sunday night dancehall event. How this group and many many other class acts turned out to events actually run by a Working Men's Club speaks wonders for the times we lived in, the mid sixties. Incidentally the Club has now been converted to flats.
Van Morrison wasn't yet 'the' Van Morrison in those days but just one of the guys in that group, the lead singer in the Belfast rhythm and blues band...! 🕵🏻🎶😃👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
@@alanlake4614 But not very many realised his greatness in those early days, he was just a lead singer in Them, the great band of course but just one of the great bands in those days. And the songs they played were mostly covers added some fine Van's own numbers. And that was just the beginning of his long career in artistic music business... 🕵🏻🎶❤️🎶🔥🎶🙂👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
this video is from 31 january 1966, it is with another formation, if you look closely, the keyboard player that appears here (ray elliot) did not record the original version in 1964, he entered it at the end of 1965
I noticed the drummer was playing para-diddles to end the song. Earlier versions of the song did not have the drummer doing that. The Shadow's Of Night a local Chicago band in the 60's helped popularize their version of Gloria. They recorded a lyric revised version of Gloria which enabled the song to be played on local radio stations. Many HS garage bands mimicked their version of Gloria and not Van Morrison's version.
Such a great song. This is an Irish band, and they released this when the Bestles had released I Feel Fine. They were ahead of the Beatles at that time.
I call Van Morrison"White Irish Soul", this was only the beginning of his long career as a singer/songwriter with many great songs along the way.Gloria has been covered by the Doors,Jimi Hendrix & Patti Smith to name a few.
Eugene, the song “Gloria” by Jimi Hendrix was only released in Germany as a single at the time. I had bought an import LP collection on Warner Brothers Germany of live Jimi Hendrix which included”Gloria” and explained this in the liner notes.
This flickering video reminds me of the flickering video made by wang chung everybody have fun tonight. You know the vocalist and his band flickering all over the place.
Wow! Just finished watching The Outsiders Film. Never knew who sang this magnificent song. Got Curious about it and ended up here. Excellent Song to an Excellent Film. Fits right in.
I was 14 when this came out, had on the Here Comes the Night album. I was angry that the ones who had it hit with it were the anemic Shadows of the Night crapola band. My little rock group played this because it was a) 3 chords easy b) same progression as The Last Time c) essentially same lead for both songs and d) tune. The first side of that Them album was a 9.9 every song superb
I recall the s**tstorm this song created with it's controversial lyrics, 'she comes around about midnight'. We were back from Idaho, in our home state of California when this song came out. It was banned in Boston as I recall, but has since become a sort of anthem for my life!! Not sure what that means....
