In Holland, graves are rented for 10-20 years due to lack of land. This presents an issue with the soldiers buried there. A very touching fact is that in effort to honor the soldiers that died liberating them, the people there will adopt a grave and pay for it, so the soldier can continue to rest in peace. It’s considered a great honor there and there is a waiting list. Often times, it becomes a generational thing where the grave will be passed on down the family generation to generation and those people will visit the grave and learn about the soldier they have adopted. It always makes me super emotional to hear that. Long after the war, they continue to appreciate and love the those that sacrificed for their freedom.
10-20 years for normal people. The war graves don’t have that. Adoption of graves is for cleaning and the maintenance of the grave. So don’t worry, we don’t remove graves of soldiers if the grave is not adopted
Not that correct, there is a Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery and the Jonkerbos War Cemetery the places i live, those graves will stay forever (i hope). Our way to honor the fallen heroes, our way to remember them, our way to be sure they won't be forgotten.
They die because a purpose human life to be a better man kind that know what is good and evil. And they die to value human being so others can live and cheer the life.

My Dad was in Eindhoven with the 275th Royal Engineers attached to the 51st Highland, he met Dutch family that was very kind to him. I wish I knew their name. 🏴

I often wonder if any of the children remember the times they were with the soldiers. Please keep the videos coming so new generations know all that these soldiers sacrificed for all of our freedom. I lost an uncle at Pearl Harbor on the Arizona, One cousin in Vietnam n 3 other cousins served in Army, Marines n Air Forces. Is that music called "Pacific " as a friend said it was. Brings tears to my eyes n will never forget these brave young soldiers. In an interview a soldier said many of his buddies died when parachuting as they carried heavy equipment ( I think 60 #'s) n when they landed sunk n parachute fell on top of them making it hard to escape.❤❤❤❤

Dad served in the arm and was in army in Europe in 1944 till fall 1945 ! he has past away but told me numerous stories , and when I retire I want to visit and maybe I'll recognize some of the places!!! thank you for this

Don't misunderstand me, but watching these videos of then and now is sad and tear jerking, as we know that many in the pictures suffered hell on earth, and possibly many of them are no longer with us? It's like a time capsule: you are standing in the exact, exact spot they stood all those years ago. Their memory lives on their sacrifices never should be forgotten. Some people though never learn, mainly world leaders. They all know of the hell involved in WW1 and WW2, and yet, they still send our young people to needlessly die over a bit of land or some egotystical politically motivated reason. When will humans learn what history has taught us?

However, now I think of gratitude instead of sadness and it allows me to enjoy these videos and pictures. You’re right though, most of the people in these pictures are no longer with us
Great footage. Love the way the WWII photo's fade out to disclose the same places as today. All those people will likely have passed but nothing changes. Everything stays the same. Let's hope we've all learned valuable lessons over the years.

Today of all days this is so touching. As a Canadian I know that many of my countrymen liberated many parts of Holland and Belgium. Never forget their sacrifice on this the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

I get very emotional when l see these videos..the music of course sets the scene but its the soldiers and thinking what they went through for US to live in freedom without the jack boot.. my dad landed on Omaha beach on Dday..l imagine its a place of summer holidays spent happily now..but the slaughter that went on that day like all of these photos must never be forgotten.. Time will surely pass quickly. The amount of respect and thankfulness I am for those young boys who sacrificed their lives in WW2, in my generation of teenagers don't really mind it, but for me. I'm beyond grateful for what I have today because of them. ❤️
