The following is a look inside of old Fire Station 4 which served the downtown area/Civic Center of L.A. between 1948 and 2007. The LAFD station was located at 800 North Main Street and is one of 106 fire stations serving the city of Los Angeles. The station was replaced by a newer structure located at 450 Temple Street. This station, along with many others, were the subject of "Then & Now: The LAFD". The project, produced by Westlake Signal Group visited many stations that were part of the "Prop F" Replacement project that replaced many of these classic old buildings. Then & Now: The LAFD won the Telly Award for Excellence in Documentary Film Production among many other honors and presentations. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS BUILDING HAS BEEN DEMOLISHED.

I really enjoyed these videos of Fire Station 4. This was my first engine house right out of the academy in 1969.

Hello there! Very nice to see "Old Fire Station 4's" again! My dad(Jack D. Widner) was assigned at that station from 1969 - 1980. He then made Captain and went to Station 41 in West Hollywood. As a boy that station was a home away from home. It brought back a lot of memories. From the bay, to the handball courts.

Captain Trejo, and other LAFD members both civilian and sworn, blessings for your service...even, as the video shows, years past; from a grateful law enforcement officer.

2 years after this video, they moved the truck, pump and squad to Fire Station 21 in South Los Angeles.

It's funny you say that. I spoke with retired Chief Bill Bamattre while we wee doing this series and it was part of his original plan to keep all of the retired stations and use them for for other LAFD functions and even neighborhood walk-in centers where people could get blood pressure readings and things like that. Well, the fiscal crunch hit and that plan flew right out of the window. Sad but true!

No, this station was not. The station that appeared in E! was a L.A. County station. It's LACoFD 127 in Carson.

Why do a lot of these big city American departments (LA/NY/Chicago) all have old dilapidated and falling apart fire houses? Why is their fiscal management so bad?

I think it was in the pilot. Jonny Gage was a rescueman there prior to being selected for Paramedic training on the program.
