Theodore Roosevelt and two French diplomats discuss Panama Theodore Roosevelt miniseries and documentary by History and A+E Network. This is for educational purposes. This video is to provide knowledge or remembrance for the viewer.
@@ProudmadarastanIt's a History Channel documentary of Teddy Roosevelt and in between the parts where the historians talk about Teddy, they play these dramatized scenes related to what they were talking about.
@@rustyrelicsfarm2406Nah, Trump would keep on talking and start shouting, but boy would he get flustered after a bit! Roosevelt would run circles around him without breaking a sweat!
The US had already paid Gran Columbia for a canal. They agreed, and later, wanted more. Roosevelt applied the treaty they already had with Gran Columbia to Panama.
colombia refused.... panama rebelled, america sent ships, and the us did a deal with that french dude who got panama to rebel without really telling panama
@@billbonson7300 And there still is no road across the Darien Gap from Panama to Columbia. It would be impossible for Columbia to send an army to put down a revolution in Panama even today.
There was a lot of corrupt local goverments doing treaties they weren't allowed to do, which the people before and after the revolutions were no fans of. Basically, it would be like louisana selling the Mississippi.
That line was pretty rich coming from Teddy of all people lmao. A man whose political career is deeply enmeshed with the birth of American imperialism. 😂
The conversation wouldn't have gone any differently. Apparently, Teddy, unlike his nickname implied, was one of the craziest and most dangerous men to walk the earth. Which would have been fine if it wasn't paired with good intelligence and a good grasp of speaking skills.
"The United States does not meddle in the affairs of sovereign nations" was a perfectly fine political stance and I wish it had stayed true. EDIT: Y'all I meant the CIA backing coups in South America and the Middle East, not sending aid to a country being invaded by an imperial power.
Theodore Roosevelt is, like, the absolute last historical figure who would've said "The United States does not meddle in the affairs of sovereign nations."
It was true for that time, but sometime after WW2 they didn’t abolish the OSS like you usually do with Wartime intelligence agencies, it has grown into the CIA which they used to “SPREAD DEMOCRACY” aka topple actually democratic nations cause they elected a socialist leader, or someone who isn’t even a socialist but whose politics hurt the tire production business in America for example by 0.04% lost profits or some shit. Morally America’s government has fallen HARD
The Panama hat isn’t actually from Panama, it was made in Ecuador but popularized by Teddy Roosevelt when he returned from the construction of the canal.
“…affairs of sovereign nations” He must of forget he was actively fighting the Banana Wars. Or the many tribal nations he disbanded, but that’s another story.
TR is one of the greatest Presidents of all time. Im amazed by the amount of knowledge he has; the extremely broad career he had before ascending to the Presidency; and ability to have the common touch, even though he was from the ultra-rich. He ascended to the Presidency at age 42 and stepped down at age 50, while we're dealing with a President at age 81. I have no doubt that if a clone of TR were to take over as President in 2021, that he could easily adapt to the times.
RU-vid commenters have no brains or style of intellectual thought. You write a rhetorical statement then follow it up with a supposed action asserting as if we are to know. What about Haiti? It’s a shit hole! I know you ain’t. Going there changing things around. What a fucking loser
@@DonMeaker nah, colombia is colombia (the country). columbia is columbia (the district of). Look at a world map thats in english and tell me how the country colombia is spelled. Burma/Myanmar is totally different
😂Doesn't meddle! Jefferson and Haiti, Kennedy and Cuba, and all between. To this day, there isn't a Pan Americas road because of the US and Panama wanting to keep Columbia at a distance...
The panama canal have been under french engineers direction during his construction (the project was litteraly french, suez was a franco-british project btw) and french businessman were the most important investissors in this affair.
@@senatorarmstrong6886 i’m not benefiting from it whatsoever when the government wants to give Ukraine more money and increasing everything in order to do so. And I definitely don’t benefit when they send guys like my brother over to Afghanistan and get him killed
And? Is this supposed to be a gotcha moment? How many other commenters types the same as you? Idiot! Scoffing for the attempt to be brilliant and virtuous. Loser
And what proof do you have? Or is that the typical modern liberal attitude “I’m pretty sure..” nonchalant pious attitude. What does pretty sure mean! It’s either you’re sure or not. Playing it safe for when someone schools your ignorance you can run and hide. Idiot!
Hey, that's a dramatization for you. I hate it too. But the thing i hate the most are the people who will only watch this dramatization and take it as one hundred percent historical fact. I already see a lot of hero worshipping people in the comments.
What’s hilarious? Ooooooooo! Because you see the current world of affairs but yet I can guarantee you value your virtuous pious attitude as some enigmatic higher conscious of thought. Yet, you type out the same comment as others. Such brilliant triggered idiot you are
