Use Mixolydian. Learn a G13 chord with both hands. There are only three extensions: 9, 11 and 13. The extensions can be changed in three ways 4 ways: b9, #9, #11, and b13
First of all, thanks for commenting. I don't think most people pay attention when I ask for comments. This has been an adventure for me because I started out as a traditional musician with only traditional training. So I am not just presenting things to students. I'm also figuring things out. For instance, every explanation that I have read about how degrees are marked in our chord system links the whole thing to a major scale. That is just one thing that blows my mind because all of us who use this system know that the number 7 fits in Mixolydian and not major.
