What are your thoughts about Amanda Seales? 🤔
@crystalyndee
@crystalyndee Месяц назад
Hi Kiaundra. I loved your review of the interview. I'm also a licensed therapist (LMHC) and even though I did not watch the Shannon Sharpe interview in its entirety, the parts I did see, specifically the self diagnosing with ASD, was a bit concerning. The current phenomenon around Neurodiversity, which I think she referenced during the interview, had me wondering if her lived experiences contributes to the way her brain processes information, how she interacts with others in social setting, etc. is a manifestation of trauma opposed to ASD. Working with people with lived traumatic experiences, I am able to see how their beliefs of "I'm not safe", "I have to protect myself", "I don't trust people" creates conflict in the relationships they are in. And these same individual struggle seeing their role in the conflict. Not trying to diagnose Amanda Seales over here because I certainly can't do so. Like you said, it would have been more appropriate to have shared her symptoms/behaviors with a licensed professional, trained in administering the assessments to confirm, or rule out, a diagnosis of ASD.

I can’t tell you how disappointed I am in your assessments of the Amanda Seales interview. Point 1. Amanda has been in therapy for years,but only following a course of treatment for ASD for merely a month. Point 2. “Your mother is White” is proof positive that ShayShay didn’t do even basic research on his guest. When Katt asked ShayShay about questioning the lies he was told by other comedians, ShayShay’s response was “I take them at their word, I wasn’t there” … but he pushed back on Amanda’s account of being bullied, on Amanda’s account of racism, and yes, even Amanda’s account of her Autism Spectrum Disorder experiences. Sometimes you should just listen. Not judge, listen. I’m perfectly fine with Amanda, in consultation with the psychiatrist and therapists who have treated her for years, coming to this ASD conclusion and formulating a course of treatment. At 40+ I don’t think she needs the blood tests. Because your experiences differs doesn’t make hers wrong. #DontBeAShannon.

The difference between confidence and arrogance is based on how humble other people believe you are when you are showing off your intelligence and explaining things to people. @@JamieBleuIn my opinion, arrogance is a warped, low vibrational form of confidence. I’m very confident in myself based upon how well I do professionally and due to other qualities I have. But I also recognize that I must be careful that I don’t low my confidence to degrade into arrogance. I think Amanda would be wise to do the same. I also think the hostility toward people who disagree with her is something that she should work on. In addition, I think she should apologize to the gentleman she lied on.

...thing is she's smart according to those of whom are in Agreement with the perception of what "smart" is based off of information that one regurgitates. Knowledge is a tool for communicating harmoniously....without domesticating anyone to one's perspective. What people fail to realize is the gain of knowledge, for some, can be a crutch when yuh don't know what to do with it. I personally feel like she's attached to a reflection of being "outspoken" and have taken on the persona of it. Her "knowledge" is what has created the mask of ASD. Let's be real, there's a large part of society who are "on the spectrum", but not to the degree of being considered legitimately Autistic. She's filled with knowledge but doesn't really appear to have "learned" much from it based on her unwillingness to detach from certain aspects of her agreement with her said "knowledge." The lack of accountability speaks to that. So....is she smart or is she well read?! 😏

It may be difficult to people on the autism spectrum to identify that their behaviors are rude. They may truly believe that they are simply being honest, clear, and concise. Additionally, as a child of parents from the islands, I can tell you that nothing is sugar coated. West Indians say what they say and they're not always ver aware or care how it makes another person feel. So, this could culturally be the way she was raised. In this cultural perspective, there really could be very little accountability taken by the person.

Just a few points from this interview: ⁃ Her teacher was racist cause she didn't want Amanda talking back and correcting her. ⁃ Her dorm mates in college all hated her because she had a strong mind and was pretty ⁃ The extremely talented Marsha Ambrosius was intimidated of her for no reason and hated on her ⁃ She was expelled from college cause a white student lied on her ⁃ Nickelodeon was racist in the process of her getting another gig ⁃ She now has self-diagnosed autism now that people hate her (but when she was more popular she was just fine) ⁃ She got fired from Sirius radio and it wasn't her fault it was her boss. ⁃ She wasn't allowed into the Emmy's party for no apparent reason. ⁃ The cast of Insecure hated her for no reason ⁃ Issa Rae didn't protect her and didn't like her for no reason ⁃ Issa's publicist hated her for no reason ⁃ Black Enterprise started beef with her for no apparent reason. ⁃ Howard university decided to rescind her interview for no reason ⁃ The cast and executives on "The Real" didn't like her for no reason ⁃ Essence magazine don’t like her, once again for no reason. ⁃ Let’s not forget about her backtracking on her ex Myron Rolle, when she initially accused the neurosurgeon and ex NFL player of harassment ⁃ What about calling Jussie Smollet “Lowkey noble” when even Stevie Wonder could see that boy was lying. ⁃ Then the way she spoke about Shannon Sharp on her live after the interview came out. If Shannon has a issue with her now (which he doesn’t) she’d probably have no idea why once again No matter how educated she is, this woman has been the problem and constantly plays victim.

You can see this same pattern witn Amanda’s response to her coworkers, and the public. She soaks in every ounce of worship, but the minute someone criticizes her (aka bringing her down to earth from tbe god complex she has) and humanizing her,… she reaches for any salacious excuse for why they are attacking her. “Because she’s light skinned” “because she’s black” “because she’s autistic” “because she’s too smart” “because she speaks proper”… etc etc.
@JamieBleu
@JamieBleu Месяц назад
I think this is pretty common with super smart black girls. My sister is pretty much the opposite of Amanda personality wise and pretty much the same thing happened to her in high school and it ended with her not getting into an honors program that she over qualified for. But there is a possibility it wasn’t because she is black because the teacher didn’t say anything racist and he seemed to be liberal but that’s why addressing racism can be so hard. The reason why Amanda’s case is different is because the teacher was LITERALLY teaching racism with regards to native Americans when Amanda Seales corrected her. The context of the teacher being in Florida also adds on to it. Yes the teacher was probably upset that Amanda corrected her but racism was very likely a contributing factor even if it was unconscious.

I believe Amanda was confused as to why Shannon felt it more important to focus on "a child correcting an adult" versus acknowledging that the correction disallowed numerous white students to be misinformed about Black history. Narcissistic narratives typically follow a predictable pattern: individuals cast themselves as either perpetual victims or heroes, yet consistently overlook their own shortcomings. Amanda is undeniably brilliant-a fact she highlighted repeatedly during the interview-yet her pronounced narcissistic traits are just as clear. It's important to recognize that we all fall somewhere on the narcissistic spectrum, with many highly successful individuals displaying significant levels. Challenges arise when those at the higher end of this spectrum struggle to manage their narcissism effectively. Their behavior can become so conflict-ridden that it severely impacts their interactions with others. Amanda admitted that her mom allowed her to be free to be herself, to express herself freely. She said even with family, her mother didn’t allow them to interfere with that. She’s extremely educated, but because of her up bringing, she wasn’t really corrected and held accountable when needed. If you want the honest answer, it's that autism has been transformed over time into something extremely sympathetic and vague which is even spoke of as "not necessarily a disability" (like "oh if you have a high functioning version you're basically an awkward nerdy genius!"). Meanwhile, the more obvious read on her (that she has a highly functional personality disorder) is a label which is entirely negative and thus undesirable and inconvenient. Similar example: Elon Musk. It's fun for him to come out as autistic on SNL. Not as fun to come out as having a personality disorder. Having said that, I think personality disorders should be removed and replaced with much more specific sub-criteria, such as black-and-white thinking (which Amanda rather obviously has) so that people can interact with the more interesting aspects of the diagnosis without gaining an outdated, dismissive and devastating cultural stigma.

As a Licensed Social Worker with extensive counseling/therapy experience as well, I absolutely appreciate this video. I have said the exact same thing about Shannon having to be careful with his choice of words but being very intelligent himself. He absolutely would not be where he is if he were dumb. Just because he chose not to use elaborate words does not mean he's dumb. He was seeking understanding, which is a strength. He's not a mental health professional, so he rightfully asked for clarification on Autism .. And i appreciate you sharing she's intelligent. This really is not just about her ability to use big words but that she is knowledgeable about a lot. However, the arrogance was not warranted re: her Master's in African African Studies and in other instances. She negates other's opinions in a demeaning way. Accountability, as she takes a long hard look in the mirror and see the common denominator is her, is so needed, but hey, some ppl never get it. Fingers crossed that she doesn't leave this life with a lack of self mastery. And lord not to mention how she speaks of being the bread winner/essentially the provider and head of her relationships. Much inner work to be done. We all need it, but some of us are more active towards this higher elevation and calling than others though.... Thanks for this. 1st time seeing your vids, I'll be bk

I felt Sharp was trying to be cool with her by trying to help her see the root of her problems from a different perspective- but she simply could not catch a clue to save her life. She was only prepared to defend herself and didn’t realize that she had a platform and opportunity to set the record straight. And, she did set the record straight - she gave weight to the haters’ claims. Sharp and Amanda were not prepped in a way that guaranteed that she would walk out of this with the type of hype she was looking for. I have felt that I should be able to be blunt, direct and that no one should give me that same energy. I had to look within because everyone was telling me that I can be intimidating. I do need to tone things down. I tone it down and I seem uninterested. I just had to realize that I’m not for everyone. When I enter into others spaces, I stay low key. At first I thought she may have been lying about the autism diagnosis but I gave her the benefit of the doubt (even thouhgh she really skirted his questions surrounding diagnosis)... but the one thing that I could not get past was when she said someone left a Malcolm X quote in her trailer and she thanked the Insecure cast member by calling a specific name- a term of endearment from her perspective- but from his it felt like unwanted name calling ... this part was super telling because she couldn't say my bad and apologize. She had to make a joke of it as well as basically call the actor out and embarass him for expressing a boundary. No matter what if someone doesn't want to be called by a certain name then you owe an apology plain and simple. But the lack of acknowledgement that she was wrong and had such a hard time apologizing made me realize this could be happening a lot. Also just because a person may have traits of autism does not mean that's what it has to be. There could be undiagnosed personality disorders for example that have overlapping presentations.

Growth was one of my biggest takeaway from the interview too. With all the stories she told, her lack of growth as a person really stood out to me. The story of her Sirus radio boss telling her to “keep it corporate” when she tried to “dap him up” was a prime example. I can understand a 21 yo on her first job being surprised by that but it’s weird that she has the exact same perspective at 42. I think most adults know that you are expected to be professional at work and not greet your boss like he’s one of the homies. Same with her being upset the guy on the set of Insecure not wanting to be called the N-word and her being offended that a Black boss made her apologize to him. After all these years she should be able to see that when someone asks you not to refer to them a certain way you should just respect, esp. at work. It’s like Amanda has not fully matured into adulthood. I can’t say she hasn’t done any introspection because she said in one of her videos after the interview that after watching herself with Shannon she can understand why people don’t like her but she is not willing to change. She just sounds like a petulant child.

I remember Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade were standing away from the fray enjoying themselves and she was filming them in selfie mode. They participated but you could see from their body language that they had had enough and she didn't appear to pick up on that soon enough. Anyone who CLAIMS a medical diagnosis based on symptoms vs. a proven clinical diagnosis determined using valid medical instruments conducted by a licensed medical professional does not have the right to claim that diagnosis. Furthermore, to lie about being clinically diagnosed with autism is despicable and screams desperation. She is using this baseless and gratuitous self-diagnosis as an EXCUSE for her highly publicized negative behavior. Millions of adults and children are suffering because of autism. She owes them an APOLOGY. The outfit she wore represents her mindset...busy and all over the place. Lastly, you could tell Shannon was not fond of her. I am a fan of Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay. I watched his podcast before Katt William's. I have watched most of them. Amanda's probably has been problematic, considering she has bashed him royally after asking to be on His show. I had never really heard of Amanda except thru controversial "problematic" clips and being on the breakdast club. I watched more than half of the interview. I thought it was good. I thought both Shannon and Amanda were both resilient through the difficult parts. Now, Amanda states she didn't feel safe. Why didn't she leave than? Shannon is respectful and wouldn't have continued on against her will. It was weird and toxic to bash him after a 3 hour interview. Amanda appears smart. Anyone can use big words and enlarge their vocabulary all the time. ie Tip TI Harris does it all the time. What does smart mean when you can't introspect, apologize, accept accountability, blame everyone else, hostility, rude and struggle with basic conversation and interpersonal skills??? Amanda may be on the autism spectrum but she is on the narc spectrum as well playing word salad and semantics to justify her not being clinically diagnosed. Her behavior during and after this interview probably didn't do anything for future invites into "black spaces."

I believe you were correct in your assessment of her background. Amanda's mother and the other authorities in her life enabled her constantly with little pushback; add to her being a child star and all, her ego was never checked. I will say that Amanda has been very smart about her own PR. Your assessment about her Autism is correct as it is her final trump card in order to keep herself relevant. By latching onto a mental issue like Autism, she knows that very few people can be critical of her without her pushing back by claiming they're judging her mental illness, which will cause everyone else with mental issues to come out of the woodwork to support her. I raised an Autistic daughter who is an adult now and volunteered in Occupational Therapy years ago, which brought me into contact with a number of kids with different mental disorders besides my own. I can say in my unprofessional opinion, but just experience, that Amanda isn't autistic or remotely off or behaves in any way like some of the Autistic savants I have and/or currently work with. I would say that maybe she falls into the area of BPD or HPD, if anything, with Narcissism thrown in. It is well known that these disorders are virtually untreatable because, as exhibited by Amanda, she doesn't see herself as the problem, everyone else has a problem with her. She uses a lot of new age psychobabble to support her belief that she is an intelligent, strong black woman, she has a duty to be true and honest at all times without any barriers, while it is the burden of everyone else to figure out how to properly deal with her, which is part of her current campaign in "schooling" people on her Autism. She promotes, "I do this, so you need to let me do this and treat me like this and have my back." If you say, "But Amanda, you said something to hurt my feelings." Amanda says, "That's just my Autism, I can't help it and you need to understand that and if you don't, you're being mean to me." If you are in her space and give her any pushback against anything she says, she will deem you an enemy. If you give her 20 compliments, but one criticism, she will narrow in on the criticism and it will be at the forefront of her experience with you. Unless a person is her complete follower, never questioning and always supporting, you can't be in her circle. I suspect there's no arguing with her or pushing back against her at all and if you remain silent, she will take that as a win and that she has successfully dominated you. I feel sorry for any therapist she does have because it's probably just her rattling off story after story, her assessment of herself and how the other people should have let her do this or that. She really isn't that hard to figure out or misunderstand. Being in the entertainment industry and around a lot of creatives, there are a lot of Amandas out there, sadly.

I think that for all of Amanda's self-confidence, self-esteem, self-value she is sorely lacking in self-awareness. I almost feel bad for her because she REALLY DOESN'T see her part in any of the things she's found herself in. In the Shannon interview at one point you could see her thinking "Dang, not him too". I think she went there anticipating being understood and him being on her side and when that didn't happen she felt let down by the world yet again I think. She's mentioned before that her therapist told her she's un-fuckwith-able and ever since then I've wondered if her therapist is doing more harm than good by co-signing everything she says. Which, I suppose, with someone like Amanda you have to do to keep them as a client. Once you try to get her to accept some accountability, I imagine she decides you're just like everyone else and moves on to the next. I do actually feel bad for her 🤷🏾‍♀️

I gotta disagree with your assessment of the first 25 mins……Shannon was clearly providing her a platform to express herself, and she took every opportunity to belittle and demean that man, the same way she does with EVERYBODY!!!! Furthermore, using too many words is not smart…..he’s smart enough to make millions talking on Facebook, while Amanda can’t talk on daytime tv w/o making enemies…….🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

Amanda Seales is the definition of a victim. It has nothing to do with her intellect or intelligence. She uses that to degrade and make other people feel small because she feels like nobody is more realer than her and she can’t be challenged. I noticed her behavior back on the Real with how she use to talk condescendingly to those women. Everybody is a problem but her. From her teacher, to Issa Rae, it’s always somebody else. She’s an exhausting person to be around. I appreciate your perspective on the topic. This video was so good.

@@KiaundraJackson Lol. I understand what you're saying because there are many different forms of intelligence. But in my opinion (and I could be wrong) there is a collective or overall intelligence. I'm not saying she's not smart. I think she posseses a lot of formal education and is a very learned individual. lol. But I just can't get on board with someone being called very very intelligent and smart and they continue to find themselves in a position they don't want to be in. Lol. However, because of the current climate and structure of society she is smart enough to leverage the victim narrative she often peddles..........

The definition of Intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. She has shown a great ability to acquire knowledge but she has also demonstrated that in some ways she lacks the ability to apply that knowledge. I noticed during the interview she mentioned the 48 Laws of Power. It is clear that she is familiar with the information but she lacked the ability to apply it. She tried to use methods taught in the book to gain control of the situation, but she came off as very deceptive, manipulative and sometimes rude. That’s the opposite of what the book teaches.

I watched 40 minutes of that nonsense. It was enough to determine that She came to fight, but found an unworthy adversary and as such the interview failed and she preceded to talk about things that were basically gossip. One day she’ll meet someone who knows that just cuz you read the book doesn’t mean you know the story!

The reason I say Amanda is a megalomaniac is throughout the interview she could care less about the “other side” of the situation. The other people didn’t matter. When Shannon asked a clear known fact that we were raised not to question adults, especially not teachers in their class, she totally dismissed the teachers authority and perspective. She doesn’t let anyone else breathe around her. There are always two sides to every story and then there is the truth.

I think you are spot on. What I got from this interview was that she is always the victim and that she cannot be corrected or even asked a question without it being an insult. All Shannon did was ask her a question, playing devils advocate about the teacher (Which we all know is common sense. No child should be correcting an adult, especially one in a position of authority) and she took that as him being on the teachers side. It’s like once she has a thought or concept in her head, that’s it. She cannot be corrected or questioned. This is the area where she keep’s running into problems. This is Narcissism not Autism. Second, black folks need to stop being so impressed with people for using words they don’t understand or use in everyday life. That is not a sign of genius, it’s education.

It seems Amanda thinks she is the smartest or one of the smartest people in the room. When Shannon offered a different perspective on the teacher and also when he asked about that diagnosis she realized he was smarter than she thought he was and she didn’t like it. Shannon is smart and emotionally intelligent too. That was the disconnect. Her usual ways to cope were not effective on Shannon.
