As a Canucks fan nah your guys top 6 is quite possibly the best I’ve ever seen on paper only rivalled by dynasty teams. Like don’t get me wrong I like our top 6 still and think our forward groups a little deeper but any fan that tries to compare the top 6 is delusional. Hopefully both our teams can be good for the next few years cause this years series was quite possibly the best hockey I’ve ever seen and I need more😂😂😂
@@matthewsmith2237yeah lol the bantering between our teams was fun, and it’s great your team has started becoming good once again. the canucks will prolly win one soon
Everybody in oilers top 6 except arvidsson has scored 80+ points in one of past 2 seasons. No other team has that or is even close to that. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if arvidsson puts up 70+ on drais wing
Sure. Goaltending is solid, too, with Skinner getting another year of experience. Defense is more of a mystery. The top 2 is still good with Bouchard and Ekholm. The rest is still a work in progress. Broberg really stepped up in the Playoffs doing all the things he needed to do. Block shots, going to corners and showing aggression. Ceci is trade bait. Kulak is still a decent bottom pair defenceman. Nurse is well, Nurse. They need someone to really be a good defensive partner for Nurse. He's not going to be traded regardless of how people feel about him.
I think they'll wait and see how broberg pans out, probably play him next to nurse and see how much offense they produce. I do agree that they really need to fill it out though, the bottom pair is going to be insanely questionable, and an underperforming 9m player with a guy whose barely seen NHL ice is hardly a reliable second pair. If Kane waives his clause, he'll probably get packaged up with Ceci for an upgrade
@@ryleyw3684 no kidding. Oilers lost the cup because Bobrovsky stole it from them, not because Skinner blew it. Oilers should have won it before game 7, but by Game 7 Draisaitl and others were completely gassed. Bob held the Panthers in it until Oilers were spent.
Good choices on the teams that you listed as comparable for league's best top 6. Detroit was one of the first teams that popped into my mind when I saw the title of the video so I was pleasantly surprised to see them included. If I'm going off the teams you have here: 1) FLA < EDM: Edmonton gets the SLIGHT boost here because of off season acquisitions. FLA still deadly. 2) DET < EDM: Clear win for the Oilers here but don't sleep on Detroit this season. Sneaky good forward group. 3) COL - EDM: Total wash if Colorado is healthy. 4) TOR < EDM: It really depends on who Toronto wants to play where. Slight edge to the Oilers. 5) NYR < EDM: Just as far as pure top 6 goes, this goes to Edmonton. The rangers strength lie in their depth and goaltending. 6) NJD < EDM: There is just too much experience not to pick Edmonton here. Devils still a threat. 7) DAS - EDM: Calling this one a wash. The lines listed could change and they have the depth to match any team rolling 4 lines. All good picks but my sleeper that you missed is the Nashville Predators. They did some serious work over the summer and I think they are a threat to win the cup if they can beat some of the other heavyweights in the west. Honorable mention to Vancouver because they have a really good team but I hate their fans.
After I watched the Oilers big run to the finals this year, my first thought was "If the Oilers only had a few more skilled perimeter players, they would be unstoppable". Its an interesting direction.
@philcanselmo9436 Holloway is gunna take a step foreward, Henrique is a solid defensive center with a nose for the net and I expect Kane to bounce back to normal. Could be wrong, but I doubt it.
3rd line will likely be Janmark - Henrique - Brown after the playoffs they just had together. For the most part anyway. We all know how Kris likes to run the line blender. You're right though, all those guys can move up and down easily. By far the deepest lineup since the 80's.
@@MikeHanson I love the Rico Brownmark line, but I doubt they will run as the consistent 3rd line. I agree with Nevermind. Kane Hollywood & Rico will most likely be the "Preferred" 3rd line. Unless injury happens in the top 6. Or Kaner isn't producing.
@@MikeHanson IMO based on production expectations. Brown & Janny should get 10+ goals each next season (in an ideal world) Kane & Holloway should have higher ceilings. Therefore they should play ahead in the lineup. Plus having a shut down 4th line is usually preferred. Brown & Janny are both better shut down D zone players to Kane, again just my opinion. Then again Hollywood could always centre the 4th line.
the oilers just have the best offense in the league in general, its 12 certified nhl players that can all contribute when needed, no other team right now really has that dynamic on their offense
Try taking more into account than just offense. That oilers top 6 will likely put up the most points in the nhl this year, but look a little deeper? What percentage of those points are PP vs 5v5? How many points will they allow?
Yeah, this may be biased cause I’m an avs fan, but assuming we get Landy AND Nichuskin back, I would argue THAT is the best top 6, since it’s likely Drouin, Nate, Nichuskin/Landy, then Rantanen, Middlestat, Nichuskin/Landy, and if one doesn’t come back and the other does, we still have Lehky
Edmonton needs a way better defensive core and goaltending. But that’s not on the players, that’s on the coaching staff, they are obviously lacking in those two areas badly.
@chadjordan4694 there's a equation average goal scoring needs good defence. Poor goal scoring needs great defence. Great goal scoring needs average defence. If a team like the oilers can limit teams to 2-3 goals against a game they can out score those games a good chunk of the time
Oilers definitely has the best line up in the league but the reason why they are able to get those players is because they do not have good goaltending
As a fan that focuses on the Pacific division........ we have been hearing this exact same thing for a good 10-12 off-seasons in a row now. This is just another "Oiler-esque" off-season that we have all seen before. Wake me up when the team success starts.
Regular season awards and accolades are literally meaningless. 50 goals, 100 points is cool, exciting, however, winning players know nothing is more important than a complete 200 ft game and team buy in. All the greats realize this if they want cups, change their game, put less focus on scoring and more focus on a complete game. As impressive as mcdavid and draisaitl are, can they do what's neccessary?? I've seen this first hand as a long time redwings fan. Presidents trophies, a hart season from fedorov, hart worthy seasons from yzerman ( damn lemieux and gretzky made it impossible for him to actually get one ) Point being, yzerman was a 50-60 goal guy, 120-150 point guy, didnt win shit till he became a complete player. Once the wings were winning cups yzerman was a 80-85 point guy and got selke votes. Winning hockey is not crazy offensive totals.
@AlGrundauFlamesTroll atleast they weren't a fuckin dumpster fire for ten years and didn't need three top 3 picks to make the playoffs. What is your franchise without Mcduster and Gretzky also ''shitlovs'' was Vancouver's third string and was still better than Skinner also what is that defence nurse ain't no 9.5 mil guy without Bouchard and Ekholm it's nothing your welcome for Ekholm by the way. Your lucky beoser had blood clots (who was lighting the lamp on Skinner) otherwise the Canucks would've kicked your asses even without him they almost won Hymans shit he's a fourth liner and draisaital is a 70 point guy (he went goaless in the finals) without Mcduster and your relying on Skinner and a 36 year old arvidson on 2nd line and your paying all those guys so much that your probably going to lose Holloway and Broburg who are your only promising young guys anyways see you in the WC final when we sweep your asses
@@airhead3333yeah and Kane perma fucked his wrist, so he’ll never be that bonfide superstar again, unfortunately. Still a great offensive player, but he’s def not Him.
I'm a wings fan I'd take the Oilers top 6 any day lol I love our players but no question the Oilers top 6 us better I hope debrincat raymond and larkin can all have a carrer year tho
Good to know... always love hearing other peoples opinions. A lot of people are calling me a homer, and I know it looks like that too. But c'mon, who's competing with this top 6!?! Appreciate the comment!
Funny seeing all the oilers hype up in here. Hey they could do it but when you got one of the worst top office management in the league...i somehow feel like all these commenters will be disappointed eventually hehehe time will tell
Like how the Oilers had the best goal differential in the back half of last season? Or that the 1st D-pair were consistently at the top of the league? Is that what you were thinking of?
@@cullycross4786not an oilers fan btw but McDavid had the best playoff performance in a long time, only reason i think they lost was because McDavid needed surgery, also they ain’t losers if they’re the second best team, the losers are the ones who didn’t make the playoffs like my team lmao
All star defenseman (Bouchard) Strong defenseman (Ekholm) Young improving but reliable defender who’s name I forgot, and then you have the dumpster fire of a nurse and Ceci
I think Florida has the best top six by virtue of they’ve actually played together already and we know where each player fits in. On paper the Oilers look outstanding, but we need to see how things shake out. It’s possible Kane and Holloway outplay both Skinner and Arvidson for spots in the top six. I think the Oilers have the best forward group but not necessarily the top six.
Panthers have two of the top 4 voters for the Selke including the two guys with by far the most first place votes. Defense wins championships,. Panthers core already had their run n gun season a few years ago when they put up massive offensive numbers but got broomed by TB in 2nd round, why? Because TB had much better defense. To me the "best" top 6 or D core ect is about which one is more likely to win you a championship, which makes Florida the clear winner in that regard. Will Edmonton's top 6 get more points? Sure, so by that metric they probably are " the best", though with 2 new guys in the top 6 you are basing that on " this player should, this player also should" and that almost never works out the way any of us think it will for any of our teams. It's not all about points, for example guys like Erod are what put Florida over the top because of his ability to drive possession, which is not accounted for with just basic points stats. It is better to possess the puck for 3 minutes and get one goal , then to have the puck for 30 seconds and get a goal, but then allow one or have your players exhausted because the other team had the puck the other 2.5 minutes, you simply cannot win with that formula without prime Vasilevskiy level goaltending, which is why Florida ended up beating Edmonton in the end.
Edmonton is right up there for sure but they will be so hard pressed to go as deep next year in the playoffs..we are in an era its near impossible to do what the Panthers did the last 2 years..I think the Oilers will have another great season but just not go as deep come playoff time
Nobody is scared of the Oilers. And anyone that is, is over hyping a team that just choked hard in the finals. They forced game 7 only after falling 0-3. Zero comeback completion gets zero cred. Oilers are a joke. They lost with the two best players in the world. The additions are not going to get their touches lien they did on their respected teams before joining the Oilers. I'm going to have a good laugh come season end, just like I did at the end of this past season.
@paulg6274 when you have the 2 best players in the world and fail to complete the comeback its an atrocious choke. 🤣🤣🤣 nice try, trying to drag the other 30 other teams. 💀💀💀 not 31. The Panthers won kid. Next time you try to rebuttal come with facts. Don't come to swing and miss. Condolences 🙏🏾
@@Chewatdachewy the fact is they lost game 7 by 1 goal. Not sure Id have Draisaitl at #2 in the world but....i guess i cant compete with your "fact" that they choked 😅
So freaking high on yourselves , these guys haven’t played a game yet, what a stupid video, there’s a reason why arvidson and skinner were let go and/or bought out and now the over 30 club in Edmonton is going to find out why the hard way, no way they make it back to the finals, Stan bowman great 👍 choice , wtf 🤬 you thinking , absolutely no respect for any other team, can’t wait for them to hit the wall and bleed 🩸 Nashville way better Vancouver way better Colorado way better , etc might as well fire Knoblach and hire Queenville and be one happy family
