Sorry guys but I don't understand one thing, as an Indian girl I watch your videos you praise Indian hospitality love by Indians , but you don't show this positive view to others , we Indian girls wear any thing in our country in Muslim country women's only wear hijab , and I see so many videos of Indian you tubers they got haresment in other country but not say that like this, sorry guys but this is my personal opinion 🙏🙏

for thousands of years Indian culture was not conservative. it is the birthplace of yoga and Kamasutra. lots of ancient Indian temples with number of adult statues. in all other ancient civilizations only men were educated. in ancient India both men and women were educated. then India was under Islamic and British rule for 800 years who were very conservative at that time and made India more conservative than them.

@@timeisup6844 what are you talking about? Lols. Removing triple talak, a man can divorce a woman by saying talaak three times, is removing that being conservatives. Having uniform civil code in school irrespective of religion being conservative. And regarding places. Yes, it's true there are places in India which are unsafe. Nothing to do with the government but culture in that particular region. I live in Mumbai. I have seen women travel at late night trains without sweat. Again there will be places where one v should avoid. Forget about women even men. And this is true everywhere. I was in Stockholm-Sweden. In some places, you will see large black men roaming and asking for money even at 8 pm. Yes, 8 pm in metro stations like ksita. Spain, two out of three of my friends lost their belongings because of theft. When we tried to reach local police authorities, they advised against filing a complaint. They made it really tough for us and asked us to visit places instead of reporting this complaint officially.. France, huge black man will come and tie threads then ask for money. I didn't feel safe at all. You might think my comments are racist. But nothing to do with colour. This is what I saw and felt. So there will be places which are not safe even in developed countries. Sundsval another place in Sweden, I saw ppl taking drugs. I almost had to run the other way when they approached. This is like seven in the evening. Also note, in winter it gets dark pretty soon. Even at three pm in the afternoon.

I went to Hyderabad, Kerala and Goa with two of my friends, so 3 ladies, 2 blondes and a red head. We didn't get any hostility but lots of attention which was sometimes quite overwhelming. We were even safeguarded by a bartender once to "protect" us from the male customers (who were talking no notice of us) but it was nice to know we were being looked after. We also covered up well because there was too much attention sometimes. Thanks guys, love your videos, off to Thailand with our baby tomorrow 😬😁

I must say, Kerala was the best place I visited in India! Even after travelling all over India, Kerala is the safest place I visited! The people were so friendly and the scenery was gorgeous. I was really impressed by the culture, and natural beauty of Kerala. It's definitely a must-visit destination!

The covering part depends on the place you are visiting….you have to cover while visiting temple or masjid….otherwise in whole of India you can wear anything you want no one will stop you the only difference is North India some people are conservative so you might get few stares specially showing skin in market areas is not a good idea…but posh areas like south Delhi /Mumbai girls are very fashionable…me being from NE India girls wear anything they want….for the Bikini part you can wear it in Goa , Andaman , Lakshadweep….

India is diverse, and you will come across many different types of people whose cultures, points of view, and mentalities are very discrete. Canadian Indian here. Thank you for starting such an important and long-overdue conversation about perceptions vs realities around India, and for framing it in a very nuanced and sensitive way. In my experience: - North Indian culture tends to be more culturally conservative than South Indian cultures - rural communities tend to be more conservative than urban communities (with notable exceptions) - Indians with exposure to Western culture (usually the wealthy or well-traveled) can be different in their body language and cultural expectations/behaviors with respect to foreign tourists than those with less exposure - older generations can be more traditional while younger Indians may have a more relaxed attitude towards women showing skin, foreigners and public displays of affection And yes, it will take a while for perceptions to catch up to reality in the media. I have been in India for almost 2 months, solo traveller female (short hair/soft butch lesbian), Indo-chinese from NZ. I am blessed to have friends in most places, however, travelled solo for a bit. I don't completely drop my guard but I'm with you, Indian people are so welcoming and I am falling in love with her a little bit more. It was a surprise to be told Mumbai is safe and I actually tested it out, walking to a restaurant alone at night. In Mumbai, I had an interesting convo with one of my dorm mates, an Indian guy, about the stories we hear in the western world about women's safety and he was offended. In regards to clothing, metro security was fun because I had tell them, yes I belong in the ladies line. Another thing is I have tattoos on my arms and covered them up out of respect. I have found also that if you are welcoming and respectful, the whole interaction with locals changes. Even with my friend's extended family, they were very receptive to this and actually said, I am so nice and down to earth, unlike experiences with other foreigners.

Me and my family are in Varkala right now so it was cool watching your Varkala videos :-) My wife is German and white and I am Indian. We've also had a lovely time here, never felt uncomfortable. However, even though my wife feels comfortable here by herself, she doesn't wear revealing clothes. Even at the beach she prefers wearing a swim suit rather than a bikini.. I think in the end it's up to each person how comfortable they feel revealing skin, i've seen the whole spectrum here in Varkala. Before Varkala, we spent a month in Dharamsala. Absolutely wonderful people, everyone was super kind and welcoming. Makes me proud of my country 🙂

Use Ola or Uber for cab services. And Avoid visiting old cities like Old Delhi, Agra and Varanasi. Instead visit the newly made cities like AeroCity in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, pune , Thane Etc. south India has lot to explore and if travel can be planned precisely then its easy and safe for solo Female Travellers to travel in India. And in Big tourist places Foreigners often get unwanted starred and selfie request because the people who Gomes from rural India they get surprised to see foreigners. But it's not something dangerous just basic human curiosity just avoid it. Otherwise it's great to explore India. But sad part is that just because of slight Negativity India's image today has impacted negatively while in reality India is preety safe and offers diverse Exposure to spend Amazing holidays. See, India is a huge country with utmost diversity. India has an Urban face as well as a Rural face. In urban areas people are too advanced, you can wear whatever you want, no one cares. Where as in Rural area people aren't much in sync with advancement, so they never prefer modern clothes. It depends where you travel in India. But the way India is developing, after 30 years, the whole country would be under 100% urbanization. India will be a lot developed and the talks about clothes would be a mtter of past. Remember, India is just 75 yrs old and has already achieved so many highs in its growth, development and urbanization. 🇮🇳 ❤

U have Nailed it , fantastic understanding of Indian culture in 5 weeks , i m from Mumbai where people from all india come and work , so it really gives u a complete understanding of people on pan India basis , i have Been in EU for over 3 months as a tourist, personally EU is unsafe is wht i wud say , places like Paris and Brussels can be very unsafe even during daytime .For a country of 1.5 Billion it would be always busy and can be overwhelming , like all countries we too have a few places which wud be tricky , but I guess it's much much safer then whaat media projects. I love your videos guys! I’m an Aussie, travelling to India in April. I’m going solo but will spend most of my time doing my yoga teacher training. I’ll have days either side to explore. I’ll definitely be covering up as I don’t want to draw unnecessary attention, just because of my choice of clothing, it’s a respect for other peoples cultures I think. I don’t generally wear revealing clothing anyway, so I don’t need to go out of my way to change my wardrobe just for travel :) Thank you for your videos, they have been great!

As an Indian living 30yrs of my life in India and being in London now. I can totally understand how overwhelming it can get for foreign tourists. But it’s not a dangerous place if one is being careful. Avoiding revealing cloths for women could be one, coz people do stare, if you are not used to it, it’s best to avoid it. Creeps are every where and India is no exception. But you know who is a creep and how to get out of it if you are careful. For single women travellers I would suggest airbnbs for stays and only with superhosts. And avoid travelling alone late at night. 😊

Thank you for being honest and frank 😊 It's a very important conversation to have and i admire that you have started it and hopefully lot many visitors to India will be informed. You were absolutely bang on with your views. Lot of India (esp South India) is pretty much safe. But places like New Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh and Gurgaon can be unsafe and intimidating for foreigners. But Western India (Mumbai, Gujarat, Pune), Eastern India (Calcutta, Orissa, Assam, Other states in North East) and South India is very much safe and comfortable for families to travel. But yes, regarding the dresses for women you are right, but we are not like Middle East countries, Iran and Pakistan where it is very conservative. Nowadays, as you said, youth and younger women of India are not restricted by clothes/dresses. Overall a very useful and an informative post 😊👍🥰

I appreciate the kind of insight and tips you provided despite your short stay...I would like to emphasis on a few points: 1. Generally in India hotels with basic amenities and safety is priced upwards of 3000 INR ( roughly 40USD) and as domestic travellers we generally prefer that. Also one has to do a little bit of research while choosing the hotel location. Theres are some places in the big cities which are bit shady and we Indians also avoid. The same is true for big european cities. During my solo trip to paris I was careful about choosing my hotel location. 2. In India mobile internet is very cheap...1.5 gb per day package will cost u 2-4 USD for 4 weeks...so my recommendation would be get a local sim card from the airport and also different popular apps for various purposes. 3. As in everywhere in India also,' you get what you paid for ' stands true...so avoid cheap unhygenic places for eating...rest u will be fine... We

Talking about beach attaire, I got a cultural shock when I went to beach at Edinburgh during summer as I'd never seen people in such beach clothes in india 😅 took few visits for me to get used to that environment, but I always felt I was overdressed for the beach while at UK as I used to be in normal clothes and not the typical beach clothes 😄

Hey beautiful people, love your videos. About the covering yourself part, I would say Indians especially people from smaller town who are in bigger cities for work, less educated are not used to seeing too much skin in real, so they might stare , or give more attention than usual. But posh cities , localities you may wear whatever you want. Also places like temples are suggested with clothes that cover properly. Rest is all perspective.

I have lived in Delhi for around 1.5 years and travelled around for 3 months twice at a time. I would say l felt safer in India than in the UK. However you will sometimes get scammed or over charged as an obvious foreigner, on the flip side as an obvious foreigner who will get more friendly attention, free food etc. When it was known l was foreigner l had people offering me free lifts, paying for my transport, paying for food and one guy worried for safety for no reason, waited to see l got on the right bus ok. With regards to womens safety per capita crimes are lot less than in the west but absolute numbers higher but there is less reporting, but alot more headline news coverage of crimes against women in India itself versus the UK where only a few stories make the headlines, it really does vary from place to place, NE India, East and South India are generally safe. But NW India, UP, Bihar, Central India l would say you need to be cautious especially in the evenings. I just think unfortunately there is a mindset of some males, not most, but more prevalent in those areas or people from those areas who have a more regressive mindset. So in a nutshell is it safe or not safe for women travelling alone, l would say it depends where your going but if going to Delhi Agra or Jaipur for example just be on your guard and avoid extremely busy or quiet areas. Again it really varies in Delhi itself, South Delhi areas being more middle class and forward looking and open, or East Delhi being more conservative, traditional, small village mindsets. I am British born Indian Sikh. India generally does get a bad press, especially from the BBC, no idea why but reality is different. India is almost the world in one country, variety of people, variety of landscapes, mindsets etc

On clothes it depends on place you are going if you are visiting a temple church or mosque then you can prefer traditional clothes and if you are on Goa beaches you can were bikini or whatever you feel comfortable in. In cities like Delhi Mumbai bangrole you can wear short skirt or more revealing clothes and in rural India you may grabe more attention if you were revealed dress and in club and in night parties you can wear whatever you want.

i think there are places where you can wear anything but there are some places where you have to cover yourself. Mumbai is much safer and you can wear anything but i am in Delhi so can tell you some places in delhi also where you can wear whatever you want. its just hard to travel by public transport if one is wearing short dresses. My wife and daughter both wear shorts but depends what kind of gathering they are going to

There are negative elements, especially in crowded cities but overall we're all trying to keep our streets and cities safe for travellers. We have a big population and with it comes its own problems and hopefully we can be more sensitive and considerate towards tourists. Basically you'll find all kinds of people and places here so you have to be observant and go with your gut.

As a single woman tourist, I suggest to go to places where there are a lot of tourists and places which are big cities like Bangalore, Pune, Chandigarh, etc. You will love it. Just avoid very secluded places where taxi and busses won’t go. Go to places where there is a good amount of crowd and visitors. And yes, don’t go out after 8 or 9 pm strictly unless you r in a crowded place in a big city Enjoy :)

Love you both for representing our culture, I agree there might be some loopholes but once you will interact with people everything will seems easy, regarding dress - if you want to experience foreign culture visit Goa,there you can be any dress you want, in North most cities people are modern with dress so you can wear anything but prefer Indian clothes because it would fit you accordingly, in South , east, west same for cites but again prefer Indian clothes, and be open to take suggestions from local guide, eat Indian cuisine, enjoy and visit every part of country because this is land of cultures, food, saints ,temples, rich history and ultimate fun.

About the clothes thing. It's like India is a diverse country, so it's going to be different for different regions how they see clothing. Like if u wear shorts and crop top in the slum area u might attract more attention than u already are. In places like maybe some other residence areas people do wear shorts and stuff. So it really depends where u r. (I'm not sure but I think people do wear a bikini in Goa.) About holi, yeah that's true. Holi is a festival of colors but also men start drinking from morning till they r completely wasted. So mostly till noon we (females) celebrate the festival then we just rest. (And again it's my personal experience of the festival.)

It is wonderful that you felt good about your travel to India. Few things you have to remember about India is that it functions at different time zones, some are still very conservative or ancient in their minds too. Maybe they will not be hostile towards you but you might get more inquisitiveness from them which may be overwhelming. There is no need to cover all your body in India. At least not in my side the North East India and the South too is safe in that regard. So no problem if you wear your choice of clothes. Cover yourself only in Muslim areas because they have a certain tendency towards non-hijabi women. Period. Otherwise the whole of India is welcoming to all of you. Come covered or come uncovered, India will welcome you anyway.

I am a woman of Scandinavian and Indian Descent (Dad is full blown white and Mom is full blown Indian). My mom lived in Kerela her whole life until coming to the US, the few times that I visited, since my mom has so many siblings (eight) we have a big family, so most of the time the women are more protected because we are surrounded by family. Everyone moves in packs there, with the exception of a few. And yea, people get interested because of your skin color and your voice, because many haven’t heard an American accent of any kind, at least in person. There are lighter skin tones in India, but when people see they still get curious so they try to strike up conversations. I remember when I stayed with my nephew who’s only three years younger than me, he was so happy because he said he’s never heard an accent like mine in person. Also, Tourists are pretty easy to spot since the culture is so different in that part of the world. So people either make one of two decisions, try and trick you or hurt you or steal from you, which actually doesn’t happen that often in Kerela from what I’ve heard and experienced, or you’re greeted with laughter and joy-fullness which is more often the case, with the obvious exception of a few places. My family, for example, is actually very humorous, and we joke a lot together, they’re extremely friendly towards most people.

You have nailed it, big country , many different cultures and traditions. I live in London and have had friends over from Mumbai recently and they felt unsafe in London. I guess there are factors that drive behaviour towards one persons for example your dress does determine how people behave towards you even in business! That also happens here; you would be more flirty towards a lady wearing a mini skirt than a lady who is dressed fully. That happens everywhere, it is even worse in Egypt.
