You are one brave soul flying in those conditions! My hats off to you sir! I usually don't even go to the field when the wind is blowing like that haha. Great flying as always! 👏👏
Good move on the part of Horizon Hobby! I'm happy they chose to send you this Beautiful Thunderbird, your what's called the right stuff in this arena. We're all big kids in the hobby but I feel this channel and relevant content is for the older kids. Thank you for all the videos Jon without the H & HH Please send Jon more birds for us. -Zachary
For the guys out there wondering if the metal housing "upgrade" edf will make a big difference in performance for this plane, it doesnt. Got one for a freewing plane a week ago and decided to hot swap it into the f16 at the field after flying two packs with the stock system and then flying the exact brand, size, and age of smc dv 5000s with the upgraded one and saw very little performance differnece. Spektrum telemetry gps was dead nuts even for both with top speed at 118 mph. Max amps were lower by 11 amps for the upgrade one when full throttle on the ground holding the nose. It feels like it has a little more get up and go getting off the runway when pegging the throttle and getting out of high alpha approaches but not much else. Still a great fan, but the stock one is perfect and lighter. Maybe fms kinda fudged the numbers a little with thrust specs or the ducting for the f16 is limiting it.
On a day with this much wind, adding an inverted gear pass would introduce a variable we weren't completely comfortable with. It was already rough flying in the wind as it was. Next time for sure!
Can you please try and schedule in an instructional video for replacement of OEM servo’s with aftermarket from opening the box of the new servos to flight. Love the content thanks for all your help
We might consider doing that - but it's pretty simple. Just pop the servo in and run leads to it. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes tops and is pretty easy!
@@TwoBrosRC The reason I asked was I’ve got a older rc car that the steering servo stripped out and I ordered a Futaba metal gear replacement. Installed no problem, until I tested it. Looks like it’s end points aren’t correct and I didn’t have a servo programmer. So I bought a HiTEC DPC-11 servo programmer. Haven’t messed with the programmer yet. I know my Futaba 10j can change servo endpoints, but I haven’t tried yet. Any advice?
Fantastic review Jon. Have this jet and I love it. Haven't set up tailerons yet but gave your setup a look and I'll be going with that. I use an NX8 and I was curious if I still have SAFE avalible to me if I go with tailerons. Again great review some of the best rc content on YT.
I can confirm that from jon. Before i put a 8ch in, i used the stock 6ch and programmed elevons for tge horizintals and and did a mix for the wings ailerons. I have the ailerons on the wings turn off when i drop the landing gear along with dropping the expo to zero so the landings are easier. Safe worked great
Yah, eflite really knocked it out of the park with this f16. I like the jet so much that even though i had a agressor grey one that only had ten flights on it, i bought the thunderbird one just in case my messing around totals the aggressor grey.
Great flying Jon, lets get another video when you have no winds and you can use the 4400. I've been flying mine on 4400 set up with flaperons and tailerons. What a great flyer. What do you do about the incredible amount of right yaw present with gear down? Turn gyro to high gains with gear down?
It's definitely getting flown again so we can demo more of its capabilities. There's no yaw present with the gear dropped that we're aware of, at least not following our setup guide linked in the video. Try following ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0rAeM0ULxR0.html and set up the stabilators to correct for roll and pitch, not just pitch. The jet will fly significantly better that way.
I was attempting to swap out the servos on mine before writing this. I have the servos you recommended which are the AGFRC B13DLM V2 servos and they are too big to fit in the stabs. They seem to be slightly longer. Did I get the wrong ones? Or did you change something to make them fit?
They should fit no issue so long as you clip the little servo wings off. Hop on Discord and show us what's going on for you in #tech-and-setup via bit.ly/TBRCDiscord
Jon, another great flying video. The video quality is great. With the blue sky the plane looks amazing. I have a question, when you did the review on the FMS SU twin 70mm EDF you stated you removed the tail weight. I have the FMS J-11, same plane different paint scheme. I have not found that tail weight. I have used a thin wire and poked into the foam between the EDF’s and have not found it. Any help would be great. Thanks
The tail weight is located where the radar boom attaches to the fuselage. It's in the fuselage at that point. Use a magnet in that area and you'll find it easily. If you've already attached the boom, it will be more difficult to remove.
Is there a Jet or plane you recommend to learn to do high alphas? If you have a video where you show controls as you are doing them, it would be appreciated as well. What skill level do you recommend for this jet. I have only flown Habu SS and 64mm F-16, with most of my flights being on prop planes.
This one does high alpha pretty well, and we've made tutorial content for it in the past:. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7vlJYCuCV44.html Check that over, it should help!
Nope. They're still stock on the Thunderbird version. On the gray version, we're using tinyurl.com/B13DLM servos which are what we used in the stabs too.
11:04 looks like a over correction to me upsetting the lift in harrier. You can hear the throttle was up . Either way Nice video ! I own both models as well and both are a pleasure to fly. I do like the 8 channel in the TB much needed improvement .
@@TwoBrosRC oh i know my great uncle bruce owned tower hobbies, horizon came as a subsidiary. Specktrum is jr by contract etc. Horizon makes nothing just like hitec etc..just a brand you pay more for, American greed.but very good products but way behind in the release of technology. Way behind. 10 yrs or more, but im a open source person elrs $20 a rx and has way more capability than spectrum, but hey you dont have to buy individual sensors etc they actually have tried. Sink or swim .
I cant say i ever thought it flew like a pig and i too have no clue what people are talking about. Although, if you flying stock cg and you havent programmed elevons on the horizontals, i can see how it might be not as sporty. I dont know about everyone else, but to get the cg where it flies best, i cant get a battery heavier then 750 grams far enough back.
@@TwoBrosRC bet. I picked up four of those 5300 HV at preproduction price and i am liking them way more then i thought. Was gunna pick up some 4400s but something tells me you bought them all up🤨😆. I found that for my preferred flying style, having the cg just barely behind the first wing mount is perfect.
I like / dislike your reviews. What I don't like is you modify almost every model you are reviewing. If the servos that come with it are garbage we should know, if the receiver is inadequate we should know. Not saying the parts you are replacing are garbage and it seems to be your preference for replacing them, it is still not an accurate review of the plane out of the box. Other than that great videos and enjoy watching what they can and can not do.
Hey, thanks for the insight! If you want to watch something flown stock, there's countless examples of stock flying on RU-vid. Our channel isn't about flying stock. You'd want Brian Phillips for that kind of content. We expect people coming here to want to see what the airframe we're flying is capable of instead of being limited by the servos that it comes with. The stock A450 servos are not garbage at all - but they don't have the speed or torque needed to perform the maneuvers we enjoy with jets.
@@TwoBrosRC thats what i come here for. Why copy what we already know from other channels. Whats kept me hooked was when you did the performance setup with the f22. For some reason, it hadnt occured to me that i could stick a ten channel in it and really have some fun
