True. OW1 loot boxes were probably the most generous loot box system I've ever seen in a game. But if loot boxes were re-implemented nowadays, they'd be way worse And, even if they were the same, they'd still be a far more predatory system than the battle pass is, trading gambling for FOMO

Yeah people don’t understand that the OW1 lootbox system was so generous it was likely operating at a profit loss (in regards to cosmetic design resources). After seeing how much money there is to be made off the battle pass and shop system, it would be an utterly impossible task to get any company on board to switch back lol. A modern lootbox would have awful odds, random skin rotations, and probably be obtained via battlepass still.

For Mauga, I personally think making his two guns more distinct would really help his kit. More specifically, keeping his left gun as a high fire rate, spray and pray tracking minigun while making his right gun shoot slower with much higher bullet dmg. This would give him the ability to engage smaller targets at longer ranges while essentially keeping his close range tank melting ability constant. This would make his gun “combo” feel more effective and satisfying, which at the current state feels terribly boring.

Mauga really feels like that "yk what fuck it if I can't have fun neither can you" tank. Except after the nerfs and with the new DPS passive as soon as you get hit you just roll over before you get to do the 1 thing he's designed to do with is shred the enemy tank. I quite like that pitch tbh, he definitely needs something. The way his kit works he'll forever be unplayable or make the game itself unplayable

it should have infinite ammo but overheat like orisa, making it more of a choice as to what gun you're using and using both at the same time would be less effective

Idk man he does ridiculous damage now especially with the fire. The issue imo is from a design standpoint he’s the size of a bus and impossible to miss. Playing Zen you can discord him and headshot so easily if he can’t escape I can solo kill him from medium distance.

I don’t think Elo hell is real, but it’s really frustrating when people who play higher Elo and in groups talk down to metal rank solo players about it. It’s much harder to climb solo and in that tier imo. I climbed way faster in diamond than I ever have in a metal rank. The odds of having teammates that make game losing mistakes is just higher down there. I’ve noticed a lot of games lately where we’re winning/losing by a good bit, and then it seemingly inexplicably turns around. On review it’s almost always one maybe two players making a horrible mistake and costing the game. Whether it’s a badly whiffed ult, ignored opportunity by a healer, bad positioning from a tank (most common and most punishing in my experience), it’s all just more likely in lower ranks, especially with the game being free. In lower ranks you’re also gonna have more people that are really mechanically good but have no game sense because they downloaded a free game to try. Not that I’m bashing new players, they’re just inherently more frequent in a F2P game.

Thats what elo hell is. People in metal ranks arent even that bad. and the descrepancy of gold to diamond is small. Its the shitty people every 1 to 2 games that will hold you down.

But that's the thing. Because metal ranks make so many mistakes it's super easy for you to capitalize on the massive amount of mistakes to climb out of it ultra fast. Most people's issue is that are aggressive when they should be passive and passive when they should be aggressive. If any metal rank grasps how to manage that, they will skyrocket to Masters at minimum.

@french_toast223 Dafuq are you smoking. How can you kill people and still be in a 5v1. I swear people don't even think about anything before commenting. I mean unless your team is truly AFK you are not fighting a 5v1 if you've killed someone. It would be a 4v1 at minimum. You just are being aggressive when you shouldn't be. Which is LITERALLY what I said 🤣 You control your own character. Get the kill as your team is moving in. Just turn around and look at their silhouettes and stop playing with tunnel vision.

I like the idea of using endorsements for matchmaking as that, if implemented correctly, could be akin to a driver safety rating in racing games. It groups on skill first then tries to match on safety rating, so the clean racers race together and the rammers race together. Hard to get the implementation right for overwatch, but the concept could be good.

i agree with you. I like that design, too. Dota was mentioned as a game that already utilizes a similar system and it works really well. If you leave matches or are toxic, you get put into loser lobbies and you have to win a certain number of matches in order to get back out of the penalty queue. The penalty queue games are awful and it's pretty good at incentivizing people to not be a-holes. Toxicity definitely exists still in that game, but it's satisfying to know people are having to play those penalty games before they get to queue into your lobbies again.

I think it'd be amazing if it did get implemented correctly. The biggest issue is actually making sure everyone opts in, as a mostly DPS main, I don't think I've ever been above level 2 strictly because I just forget/don't care enough, and most often it's supports who have the hella high levels.

I completely disagree about the elo hell thing. I have many accounts and I play them all the same the only difference is they all started in diff ranks. Whatever rank OW thinks you belong to it’s more inclined to keep you there especially with the new season nine point system. My GM Masters Diamond and Plat account all have the expect same win rate all being exactly 50/50. I got over 100 games played on each account and wherever it started the account I haven’t moved at all. If the system was like the old system my plat and dnd accounts I would have to try to stay down there, instead it keeps me down there without me doing anything. Once when It thinks you are a rank I don’t think there is any natural way of going past where it puts you aside from 5 stacking. I think that’s kinda cringe. I got 4 accounts all with around the same playtime with identical win loss ratios since season 9 and all of them were placed into diff ranks and I have neither gone up or down on any of the 4. I don’t think that’s a coincidence btw. The system is designed to make progress slow so you spend more time on the game ergo spend more money. It’s the same system as cod and many other games. It’s less of an actual reflection of skill and more of a reflection of how much time you have or how often you stack with players. Huge L ngl

Hot Take: I like the 3d models of the souvenirs and I DO enjoy collecting them, but having them just be another kind of emote is dumb (and takes a slot from actual emotes which are way more interesting.) I think they should be used as a mini taunt with their own dedicated button. I find "teabagging" to feel unsportsman like, but if I could very quickly drop a souvenir on the body of a defeated enemy, that would feel to me to be a more light hearted and fun use for the items. Or maybe it wouldn't even need a button press, but was just a quick and automatic thing that happened over an enemy corpse any time you killed someone like a "calling card." Much like how the on fire system draws attention to players doing well, if the enemy keeps seeing the same cutesy souvenir dropping on the battlefield it would send a certain kind of message.

I believe the no elo hell just cause you definitely can throw games by being either a bad teammate or vice versa the team throwing 😂 also how can you improve when there are games which you play above average but still get trashed by the other team because they coordinate more than your own team

Hot take: This season killed solo queue because now I’m facing up against groups a lot more than I was before. Before I played with other solo queue players that also used their mics. Now I’m with other 3-4 stacks who are in discord and don’t join VC.

My favorite way to look at ranked and elo hell comes from Jane back a couple years: A third of your games will be auto-losses. You'll get throwers, a bad tank, a Widow one trick having an off-day, you'll face a smurf, etc. There's nothing you can do to win these games. Don't get tilted and just go next. Another third of your games will be auto-wins. You'll get the smurf, you'll get the one trick on their best map, you'll win the matchmaking lottery, your Ana will hit a 5 man nade every fight. You could play terribly and still win without much trouble. Appreciate these games. The last third of your games are the important ones. They're the games where your performance matters. If you play bad, you lose. If you play well, you barely get the win. Recognize these games and try your best. After the game, go watch the vod, and try to identify what you could've dine differently everytime you died or lost a team fight.

Seems about an 80% lately of the first and a 50/50 for the other two combined the last week or so when playing. I average a leaver for or against 1 /4 games for example. Also not sure why the % for losing is so much higher. Wins I get between 6 and 16%, losses between 20 and nearly 40%.

There is elo hell in respect to having a shit to of feeders, bad tanks, throwers, smurfs, ximmers, amd rank inflation. The amount of BS tanks I've had is staggering. Usually feeding Dooms it could be anything. You have to have a coordinated effort to kill the enemies before the tank dies. A lot of tanks in metals are new players who have been inflated to plat or gold. Tanks that dont even use abilities. If it's not a feeder it's a Widow, Ashe, Soldier or Soj just going 30-0 being extremely oppressive. This is not normal in gold, a lot of ximmers in console or smurfs with new accounts. Leavers are also free losses. I agree its likely to happen on both sides, but if you play solo it's extremely likely to go against groups other than randos. Having at least 1 person is key to ranking up unless you gain skill leagues above your rank. Best I got solo was plat sub 300 hours. 56-58% on my best characters. Being consistently above average is just not enough to sway a lot of conditions stacked against you. I have watched GMs lose gold matches before, there is definitely such a thing as something being unwinnable. I understand the elo now as the guy explained, but it still doesn't account for the toxic behavior aside from the existing variables. The ease of making accounts is the #1 contribution to this games issues.

I play on a 3 friend group and i kinda agree, but we're always stuck with the mercy moira rando combo that doesn't fit in any comp, and winning or losing feels like the same

@@cd7677 I feel like there are a lot of ups and downs in metals due to to so many new people, but that's how the big streaks come both ways. I guess it's easy to go up as it is to go down just by random chance of having good vs bad, but what I really want is a good competitive match. I don't want to win against people who lack skill then lose to a team that is better than us on average. My only goal was to get to a rank where people are serious about winning and everyone wants to work together. I might be chasing a dream.

@@pogchamp154 you guys all say this but you fail to mention the large amount of stacks. If it was all solo then sure statistics whatever, but stacks have an advantage especially if they are communicating. It's easier to rank up with a partner than solo.

Hot take: Skin recolors in the shop would be a good thing if the monetization wasn't garbage as a whole. They provide a way to re-release skins without making the old ones less special. For example Pink Mercy will probably never come back but they could do a Yellow Mercy or something to compromise.

Pharah's rework is amazing. Shes my #1 dps and shes infinitely more fun and engaging now. Plus the 30 damage on concussion is a much needed tool to finish off someone whos low when you have to reload and cant possible get in melee quickly from height/range. (though i HAVE fallen off the map forgetting about fuels change but thats just funny)

something i dont see pharahs talking about with longer jump jet cooldown is that rocket jumping is EXTREMELY useful. you basically get the same height (when i do it) to jump jets for like 15-20 hp. the biggest drawback is having to use one of your six rockets

Hot take: Zen should be able to reposition the discord orb for like 1 sec (number can be tweaked) after putting it on someone without it invoking the cooldown. I mean this as a quality of life issue rather than power. To me this is what felt awkward about the nerf, not the counterplay. There might be a better way to achieve this, no matter what way you have to make sure it can't be gamed.

Elo hell is not the problem because you eventually get easier matches and you can climb if you get better. The problem is that matchmanking is so aggresive that you would have to be a Diamond player or higher to win the "difficult game" matchmaking throws you at in gold. Then later that week your allies are top tier and you feel like you dont even have to play to get 4 divisions higher. You feel like you have no impact on the outcome of at least 50% of the matches.

Hot Take: They should bring back giving players the option to be able to chat after the match ends. Otfen, there are times when players want to speak their mind after a match, but aren't guven nearly enough time. Similarly, they could do away with the Season Pass sequence after every match and replace with a pop-up up while you navigate the menu, similar to when you get a reward for completing a challenge, at the bottom of the screen.

I just block any individual, even a teammate, that says "diff" or "ez" - I define my own acceptable communication, because if Blizzard impose, people will just pick a new phrase to use that isn't replaced

I often report if negative like tank diff when it had been a team diff. Also don't care for the ez especially when it's been a hard fought game that goes at least 4 rounds and the person saying is being carried by their team lol

As a console player, I can tell you that Pharah is a little easier to hit, but harder to kill now. She was a feast for hitscans when she would just be in the air all the time. Now they’re playing a lot more with cover and can get healed easier from both supports.

pharah's new horizontal dash does not give her more booster fuel. her standard vertical jump jet ability does that. which is the one that got the big CD increase (40%, 10 to 14 seconds)

But that randomness affects everyone. Other people get bad luck in some games too, and you often don't realize when you're being the bad in a game or even being carried. Unless you think the universe has specifically selected you to screw you more over other people (which would be sus) that doesn't apply

Hot Take: I want more data on how I stack up against others in my rank. Not just win rates or K/D's but for any existing stat I have access to in the menu. I also want to see a few new stats around consistency game to game (am I solid, streaky or a wildly varying mess), as well as a "near miss" accuracy stat that's more reflective of active targeting instead of corner spamming polluting the data. If people don't want to leverage this then fine, but it would be cool to know what aspects of my game are holding me back (e.g. my game sense and objective focus is good, but I can't aim that well). This could also help any potential coaches as they get more historical data than watching the last few replays.

Hot take: There should be more flying heroes. I think flying heroes whether they are tank/dps/support would bring more depth to the game play. More heroes with flying/gliding kits like Dva, Pharah, Echo, Mercy if played well or in the right comp could bring more possibilities to the table and enable the team to perform better in certain circumstances or maps. Specially if they were designed to be utility based.

Elo hell is real unless you are willing to play into the thousands of games. High Elo players discount that as their player pool is so much smaller. The idea that one will have an average number of games with bad teammates as well as good teammates discounts the total number of players as well as being free to play with totals then shifting. This is further exacerbated by rank as lower Elo (below diamond) tends to have worse issue according to blizzard. 5V5 is actually played out in dice. 1 is far below, 2 is below, 3 is slightly below average for that rank, 4 is slightly above, 5 may be the next rank and 6 is superior. About 350k people so dice. first for people having bad days or are new swap 25000 dice that are weighted to come up 1or 2 or 3. Next swap 1000 dice weighted 6 people smurfing or also playing well above rank level.. next swap 100000 dice that are weighted 2-5. Last, each player secretly roles a 20 sided die with that being when they have a leaver. Once they get the leaver the player rerolls. Each player grabs five dice and roll against another player. Now it gets complicated. each die is rolled for a hero role. 1,2 auto lose except against an equal role. Also tank has an out of average impact so if tank is a 6 boost all other rolls by 1 or 1 reduce all roles by at least 1. Add up the total and get a winner. The numbers get deeper based on comp but i think we all get the idea. The math demonstrates that a player needs between 2000-2500 games to get even close to an average distribution. So starting AFTER 2000-2500 being better and having more skill will take the player to the next level. With that said, playing that many games should ALSO improve skill vectors (game sense, hero mechanics, etc) in OW.

During COVID got another account and placed in gold and am currently in Diamond in OW2. My old account on which i still play sometimes, is gold. :)

Hot take, they should completely remove the scoreboard. Replace it with personal stats only, and emphasize hero ability usage over K/D. Right now, the scoreboard only serves to convince people that damage and kill stats matter more than a player's overall skill.

@@sthepcorms6747yeah certain characters eg sombra,zen, Lucio kinda, and mercy won’t get the correct stats displayed to the team as you won’t necessarily have top damage but will be contributing a lot to team fights with hacks,discord,speed,damage boost respectively so you could be carrying and they could think you’re throwing. There are probably more examples I can’t think of right now

Hot take: Overwatch needs to redesign all of the health bars to reflect the new quick melee damage. Since the season 9 change of quick melee from 30 to 40 damage, the health bars no longer function as intuitively. A single tick on the health bar represents 30 damage, which, prior to season 9, was a clear signal that someone was one-shot/melee-able. Now, however, a one-shot character's health is over a single tick. The health bars should be updated such that each tick now represents 40 damage.

regarding the endorsement level, as a new overwatch player with a little over 100 hours in comp, and playing matchmade at the boundary of bronze and silver, I can say with confidence that if I were paired with other fours and fives I would have a much much better time.

Hot take: we need a tank that excels at very long range and angle denial, right now the only way to deal with long range heroes is to dive them. If your team is refusing to follow up, you can't get enough value solo if the enemy has good dive counters and unless you're multiple skill ranks above the enemy team, you just watch your team get picked one by one or die trying to do something about it by yourself. Not everyone likes playing dive and getting a guaranteed loss vs widow/pharmercy diffing your team because you don't want to invest learning time into a style you don't enjoy really doesn't feel good or fun

wouldn't that kinda make sigma useless though? he may not be great at really long range, but as the game is right now, he is the poke tank. if you mean hitscan, balancing a very long range hitscan tank sounds difficult. it would lead to a hero that is either very niche or absolutely broken. i think this is a cool idea, i just think that logistically it could be risky.

@@defaultdan7923 Sigma can block damage while poking and reposition easily, he also does a lot of damage and has cc. What I thought of is a hero with a personal barrier on a long cooldown that has to set up with a "turret form" to get his long range hitscan, a slow firing high damage railgun. Normally he would only have a flamethrower, and the last ability could be a team buff around him that gives everyone 70% damage reduction for one instance of damage within a few seconds. Ult can go wild, I dunno, Tone's Salvo core from Titanfall 2, that's a really fun ability with lots of skill expression

Angle denial: Sigma Very long range: Ramattra You don't have to play dive. Dive is bad on circuit royal, where Sigma is meta cause he's perfect for denying Widow. Also Winston new long range tesla is really good, you won't beat widow at max range but you're literally winston her biggest counter anyway, and his long range hitscan actually beats most tanks at long range and is really good vs pharmercy. For Pharmercy you don't need to dive either, you can mirror the poke comp and just diff them on Sigma. If you "need" to play dive its cause you got diffed on the poke mirror! Just play better

Primarily because when you play chess there aren't four other people who come over and play your pieces for you - all at varying levels of elo themselves - and some who aren't even paying attention to the board. It amazes me how people say that ELO Hell isn't real, you deserve the rank you're in, etc... Then Bogur throws out a video where it took him like 5000 matches on Lifeweaver to get to Grandmaster over three different accounts - including a portion where he got stuck in Platinum. Sure, over a long enough period of time you will break out and get to where you need to be. But what's the cutoff point of matches/time spent before you stop saying "That's the rank you deserve" and it becomes "ELO Hell"?

It's possible that, until he got a lot of practice, he WAS a lower level player on LW. Your impact on wether you won or lost a game was the lowest of any character in Overwatch history. That is a completely separate issue. Take ONE statistics class, learn just BASIC statistics, nothing crazy. Then think about elo hell. You will realize these things: 1. Leavers and throwers do not prevent you from climbing, maybe they impact a game here or there but STATISTICALLY if you never leave or intentionally throw a game the enemy team is more likely to have a leaver or thrower. Your team has 4 chances and the enemy team has 5 chances. 2. If you, on average, play at a higher level than the players in your role at your rank. Over time you WILL climb. Anyways, if you actually want to climb in overwatch, your goal should NOT be to climb. It should be to become a better player. THEN you will climb. If you aren’t climbing over a reasonable period of time you should do some self VOD reviews and watch some Spilo videos.

Hot Take: Blizzard could have only increased hitbox sizes a small amount (to maintain a high skill ceiling for aim) by simultaneously greatly improving the tick rate of the servers. The problem is improving servers on a large game is very expensive so they just increased hitboxes too much to try and get the same result.

HOT TAKE: Emotes, sprays, voice lines and crouch should be disabled from playing for enemies for 5 seconds after an elimination. The usual response to this is “grow a pair”, which in itself is already quite a toxic behaviour. Overwatch has always been marketed as an inviting game for new players who aren’t into the overly negative aspects of competitive PvP games, and there is absolutely nothing positive that can come from spraying, emoting, using voice lines and teabagging your enemies after a kill. This change would reduce social anxiety for those who are very sensitive to it and help foster an overall more positive community. I understand maybe crouching has some strategic gameplay value, but I think it’s used vastly more as a teabagging tool. If not outright blocking players from doing it, at least make them not play for the enemy team in kill cam or POTG.

I'm starting to feel a little crazy because I've been coming at you with this since like November. Hot take: Role passives would be better off as optional passives. Each role gets its own default passive but can be changed to the others in the hero select menu. Passive healing could be nerfed to be as negligible as the previous DPS passives and tank passive. This puts player agency at the forefront without having to make weird changes like all roles getting passive healing.

Listen, while I do agree that clombing should be difficult. Last season I could win 5 lose 0 and climb. This season I won 17 games in a row and ranked up twice in a lower rank by 3 elos then i was last season. I'm not saying I'm doing the best, But the minimum amount of rating I got last season was 20, cause 5-0 always meant a rank up, this season I am getting 15 sr per win, And I lose 30 if I lose once, Was gm 3 now diamond 3. 76% winrate, 16 hours played. You can't tell me the system doesn't need adjustments. I can share my account if anyone is interested in looking at my stats for yourself.

Pharah's mobility feels a lot better imo with the faster jets and dash ability. Moving from cover to cover quickly, using the faster jets to quickly reach high ground, she's very nimble and incredibly fun when you start chaining her movement abilities. Also, the changes make more sense for her personality; it makes more sense for an extroverted, somewhat explosive personality like hers to be a fast mover, rather than just sitting high above the enemy.

The chess comparison is not accurate here, coming from a long time chess player. In a team based shooter, you arent the chess player sitting across the board from your opponent. You're one of the pieces. Meaning there are times where players on your team will be in positions you can't save them from. In chess, being above the board, you can move that out of position piece to minimize the damage to the rest of your formations but in OW, even if you notice a teammate out of position, unless youre playing LW theres pretty much nothibg you can do about it. You just have to try to try your best to adapt to a terribly lopsided situation Examples: i main tank and support. As orisa, i managed to help my team push to overtime on Paraisio in a game and made it to the final corner of third after a hard fight for second. Being the tank, i move up from the cart to prepare for the last respawning members of the enemy team and suddenly, defeat. When watching the replay, i see my team all leave the cart to fuck around and find health packs, despite the cart healing and having both zen and moira there. I had no control over my loss in that instance despite carrying the entire game with one of the dps. This can't happen in chess. Even more recently, had a game where a player instant locks lucio (a hero i main) and i notice he's very low on heals and damage, and kills during a respawn. When i watch him i see he's hanging too far back to heal the team or hit his shots as we try to move up. I ask him to do so and he says he's new and isn't comfortable with the character yet. I ask him kindly to let me play lucio and try moira or something and he just stops talking and starts throwing the game. We end up losing with me having 5k+ heals and 10 elims, him having 600 heals/damage and no kills. In chess, i can't expect one of my pieces to just stop playing the game. For lower ranked players who are learning the game and actively trying to improve or win, you HAVE to deal with brain dead teams, throwers, etc. This is the ELO hell i interpret when people talk about the 50/50 aspects of OW and its pretty obviously real when looking at it from that perspective. The only way to rank up is to have a good stack or to hard carry. No close games have ever gotten me a rank up despite individual performance and that's very different from MMR in 1v1 games like chess or fighting games

What I don’t understand about comp…I’m in bronze 4 and get lobbies that are total blowouts where my team can’t even leave spawn and I’m the only one getting kills as tracer. The enemy team will have insanely cracked players like an Ashe with perfect aim who last night used her shotgun to jump into the air and doink me in the head as sombra as I teleport away into the air and go invis. People meme on bronze but I’ve legit been getting the most sweaty players that are obviously smurfing with new accounts. Oh and that insanely good Ashe player? For some reason I played against them THREE TIMES IN A ROW.

Fix counter swapping by giving tanks a "mirror button" at the hero select screen. You'll mirror what the other tank picked. If both tanks select mirror, you both get the same random tank. Tank swapping is locked for the first minute of the game. Maybe even on a one minute cool down always.

Hot take: make the dps healing reduction passive activate on their target after droping below a certain % hp. This would help both tanks and supports, tanks wont feel as squishy and supports benifit from keeping their team toped off. Hot take: Rein needs buffs, not reworks. Last thing I want to see is the devs give this man a trap or a bigger shield for "teamplay". Personally, I'd like to see these changes, one if not all is good (with some random bonuses because why not) 1) Hammer- Swing speed increase or decrease knockback, preferably knockback (Bonus -N/A) 2) Firestrike - 125 baseline. That's it. Also, like Ram, PENETRATE LW'S PETAL! THAT WAS SUCH A DUMB BUFF FOR HIM! (Bonus - Firestrike puts people on fire. Status ailments may be an interesting way to add CC without actual CC abilities) 3) Charge - Maybe a mini fortify, but I do like the instant kill potential in exchange for exposure. So I don't know... (Bonus - shield can be deployed while charging in) 4) Shield - Reduce movement penalty when shield is deployed. And while I'd prefer not to, maybe the shield healthily needs increasing as well. (Bonus - have it a meter like Dva, and have it leave a firewall based on meter usage) 5) Shatter - 3 second stun. I definitely don't understand the new ranked disparity. My support and tank placements ended with me being in the usual high silver to low gold range, but placements for my dps slot put me into mid plat, and I was never even close to plat before. So in my games I'm now seeing opposition with gm role titles and the games are drastically faster, people are unquestionably higher in efficiency and skill than me and most of my games, I'm superfluous, with my team around me carrying my sorry ass, so I'm not deranking yet whatsoever. It's not your typical ELO hell, but the DPS queues for me are definitely hell right now 😂.

Elo hell is for the most part not real BUT that’s over the course of enough games meaning enough TIME. I have two accounts that are an entire class difference simply because I had two leavers and a DC during placements versus went 7-3 on the other. I’m climbing out of the lower one SLOWLY but it takes a ridiculous amount of time because you can’t avoid when someone leaves or someone is trolling or someone is high etc. so even winning 60% of your games takes a while to climb. The later you play into the night the worst the matches get by far too.

Hot Take: the projectile hitbox patch has done the OPPOSITE of what blizzard intened, ie. "make hitting shots feel more satisfying." hitting shots are only satisfying when they take effort to hit. Things like ashe headshots aren't the same anymore now that I can hit them back to back without trying very hard.

Ive run into LOTS of endorsement level 5 supports who are the most toxic players ever (mostly Mercy players for some reason). Supports get endorsed more than the other roles due to the nature of thier job. Lvl 5 endorsement does NOT mean they arent toxic.

I know we’re in short supply but I’m a Mauga player and I think he’s pretty good right now. His Matchups agains most tanks are good except Dva and Sig is more of a skill matchup. I don’t find controlling the run very clunky you get use to it if you actually play the hero. Also the biggest change I want to see to him is being able to use an ability while shooting. It makes no sense for him to have to stop shooting before using and ability it’s inconsistent with every other hero in the game and adds quite a bit of clunky ness to his kit. If you can aim killing squishy heroes with your single fire is easy so I don’t see him as just a tank killer. I think most people who are complaining about Mauga don’t actually play him and their mental image is from when he was OP for one week and they still can’t get that out of their head for some reason.

ELO is only fair in a 1vs1 situation, chess, starcraft etc. Where it is just your skill vs your opponent that defines whether you rank up, rank down, or hit your 50/50 (this is where i belong). It does not work and has never worked for teams. Saying you are exactly where you are supposed to be while 4 other people on your team, and 5 other people on the oposite team decide your fate A LOT more than you do is erroneous to say the least. But you've been 5 stacking all season soooo.... Can't game the system then claim its fair.

23:55 pharmacy is a lot easier to deal with, I like playing new pharah as an echo main, the movement is much cleaner once you get used to it, but I think people need to get used to rocket jumping to boost up too since the high jump is on 12s cd or whatever it is.

You described 50/50. If you are 800 and you improve to 900 but then the match maker starts matching you against 875 and 925 to see if you still sit at the same rank you should not climb or fall. 50/50 would reflect accurately your skill rating Assuming minimal variables, or even all of the variables combined at a high enough amount of games, if the match maker works as intended you should not move higher or lower if your true skill rating is 900. If it's 800 you will fall to 800 but then ultimatly plateau again resulting in another 50/50, proving accurately your rank. It's not ideal but it's what is INTENDED. 50/50 doesn't mean it's broken. It means it works

I think the difference is people are complaining about the idea of a *forced* 50/50, claiming that the game is screwing them in some way regardless of what their skill is Karq's explanation has a vibe of "it's not forced, you're the one causing the 50/50 because of your skill"

Hot take: the invulnerability from suzu and bap lamp shouldnt apply for ultimates but only for normal bullets and cooldowns, ults cant just cut through it, bringing back the need for defensive ults and making ults feel impactful again

Hot take: widow's projectile size should go back to what it was before season 9. The indirect buff of her TTK remaining instant while everyone else is longer than before is already a good bonus. Her carry potential compared to difficulty to play right now I feel is skewed (example being tracer, hard to play well, but very good in the right hands. She needs some tweaks too but...). If we must have a 1 shot character, up the ante and make the level of precision required to hold a lobby hostage very challenging.

Look bro. I grinded bronze to diamond in 3 weeks on my off account. I shred through most lobbies in diamond. But on my main I can't get out of gold 3? Elo hell is real

Hot take: with them confirming season 10 "Wide Groups" will allow all ranks to party together in competitive, they need to allow cross play as well. You can't tell me that a masters grouping with a bronze would be more fair/balanced than 2 golds grouping together from different platforms just because one is on controller.

All ranks already seem to be playing together. I have seem everyone from bronze to gm in comp games. Bronze shouldn't be facing higher then gold according to their supposed taking system with 2 ranks. It's bs and frustrating how many are smurfing, leaving and so on lately.

17:46 slurs are automatically replaced. I have profanity filter off and sometimes there are 6 asterisk in chat and we know what that means. Also ow chat ban is insane now. I got suspended for 2 weeks and after a week of asking support why one of the 3 messages that got me banned was “fuck nt” (the other 2 where not slurs and only one was insulting to my teammate) 1 of 3 and I was banned for 2 weeks

There is no Elo hell but there is forced 50/50. If you are better than 90% of the playerbase you will have a 50% win rate just like someone worse than 90% of the playerbase. Putting you in games against people of similar skill forces a 50/50 win rate.

I only ever check endorsements to help deduce whether or not someone is boosting or toxic ban dodging. Its a mostly useless system aside from helping make some small fraction of the playerbase happy when they see they got another endorsement lol.

Hot take: wrecking ball should be changed to a dps. Since ow2, it’s been proven that his kit is not built for 5v5, and he’s been pretty much useless until this patch, where his only job is to survive and let your dps do all the work. Make him have 350 health/armour/shields, make him smaller (maybe bastion sized) and rework his adaptive shields to be a more damage dealing ability, and I think he could fulfill a roll similar to sombra and work very well as a general disruptor while still having a tank to back him up.

16:46 Actually, despite the fact that "Diff" always gonna be lowkey toxic It does often point out what went wrong in a team fight, someone new to the game might need to know what went wrong or what they might be doing wrong Its the whole reason I learned how to play tank a cute girl showed me the game and I immediately decided to become a tank main and I sucked but after a few "Tank Diff" s in chat, I watched a few video's a bout the game and figured out what all the abilities do soon the girl i was playing with told me she noticed how much better i was now i never see that in chat

A better solution for LW + Mercy would be to make Mercy's light gun shoot as right click, so pistol on right hand and hold staff in the left while doing this and shift the beam selection to scroll. The same for Life Weaver would be great too, having a gauntlet on each hand and shoot thorns with the right and heal with the left so switching is instant. This is why Kiri's dmg/heal implementation is good because she doesn't have a "switching" time, it's just instant action to action

I can confirm for a fact there is elo hell... Due to a glitch Im stuck in Plat 2 as support lol. When I hit 99% then win my next game it resets me back to 0% in Plat 2 lol. Oh well

Hot take: You should be able to kill heroes that are in the middle of being resurrected like in Valorant. This would force the team to assist the mercy and protect the person being resurrected and would allow heroes without a stun to just kill the revived hero instead of cancelling the rez.

I still think Elo hell is a thing even though i climbed out. I view Elo hell as something torturously temporary. In OW1 i was hardstuck gold, unable to climb out. Some friends i trusted joined me and I got into plat. Played by myself and stayed in Plat for seasons with no issue. In OW2, I ended up climbing to diamond, didnt think i belonged till i stayed there for 3 seasons straight. I got to Diamond 1, started getting Masters lobbies. I didnt think I belonged in Masters, but after playing 8 games and winning 6 of them, 5 of which i carried, i thought maybe I could be. Then for some reason I went on loss streaks so bad i dropped back to plat twice. In one set i was 4-0 then lost 6 games in a row because of leavers (often on winning games), and literal throwers. I dont mean "youre so bad youre throwing", no, i mean tanks literally telling us theyre throwing then running into the enemy team and standing there letting themselves get killed. I did get into Masters eventually, but I cant ignore the almost 3 times the game dragged me down to plat by giving my teams throwers, leavers, and people who just plainly didnt know what they were doing. And I feel like the fact that a lot of the people who were top 500 for so many seasons are now stuck in Masters has to mean something too, right? Its only been a few weeks so whos to say, but people who were top 500 are now stuck kickin it with me in Masters when thats the highest ive ever been so....just sayin, there may be something to consider.

On the diff thing, I think slurs are actually already censored regardless of your settings. I've definitely been called an f-slur that just got changed to "***". I think some of the other heavy-hitters are censored in a similar way too

I wonder if there are any word lengths that don't have a slur. Like, if I put 8 asterisks as if I had slurred, but no slur is the proper length so people can't figure out what I "said"

Pharah feels good to me as a console player. It is weird getting used to L2 instead of using X as my flying button, but that was a preference using X since L2 did the same thing pre-rework. I have been able to get 2 POTG in my first 4 games with her and the biggest aid was her projectile speed. I am able to hit a lot more direct hits and don't aim at the ground where I think they will be as much as I used to. She has plenty of counters and doesn't feel amazing, but I like the rework

I agree with the elo part. I used to think elo hell WAS real but over time I just realized I'm not good at the game and I'm probably never gonna get better so it's better to just stop worrying about rank. I've since stopped really playing the game outside of maybe an hour or two per week with some other low skill friends and when we get frustrated or too down we just go play FF14
