It can be very discouraging because it truly does take this long when you don’t hire demo crews. I bless your hearts for doing right by this home are caring about the old and unique. Oh my gosh this is SO TRUE!! SIDE BY SIDE!! We bought a house where dryer was on top and it broke and we didn't know ANYTHING about how it was set up whether electric or gas. Thē repairman was crammed in there I had to ask my husband to run home to help repairman pull it out and it turned out it was gas and we were so nervous it would leak while trying to pull dryer out and then there was nowhere to put dryer while trying to repair it because the room used to be a closet !! oh my gosh thē repairman almost gave up and left but he finally figured it out. I even had to call the people we bought the house from years ago to see if they remembered if it was gas or electric of course they did NOT remember! Sorry so long! I just wish ours was side by side after that fiasco 😂
@vtaylor73
@vtaylor73 Месяц назад
And don't run the dryer vent up the wall and out the roof - make it easy to access the outside vent for regular cleaning out the lint build-up. Or you could consider going with a ventless dryer, I've had mine for a while and love it!
@chm8704
@chm8704 Месяц назад
I totally agree. Do side by side - stacking is a total PIA. Get a top load washer. Front loads are so hard to clean and keep from stinking. With that nice roomy space, use what is easier to use and to fix. (this old lady have been re-doing her houses/condos for years and had at least a dozen laundry rooms... stacking units are awful.) Especially for those of us having to wash dog stuff... especially sheddy little Pugs!! Get a washer that allows you to add extra water to rinse out the hair.

I've come to the conclusion that the real reason that phrase exists is because most of the bad-built old houses have fallen in on themselves already.
@peevester9987
@peevester9987 Месяц назад
@@AbbreviatedReviews The stereotype is true, but it doesn't really say as much of a positive thing as you might think. The house stayed up with compromised load bearing beams and rotted joists because the wood is old-growth and incredibly dense. We don't use that wood in building anymore, because it doesn't exist in harvestable quantities - we decimated all of our forests using it. Also, structural engineers have much, much better tools these days to tell them where strength needs to be, so we don't overbuild like used to be the norm. Look into what goes into restoring a Frank Lloyd Wright house for example - it often costs more than the market value of the house, and there's often massive internal damage from all the then-experimental building techniques and materials. Builders really had no dang idea what they were doing in those days, and overbuilt to compensate for ignorance.

Quick fun fact: if you leave the bottom board of the walls you build intact all the way across including the doorways, it won't bend twist or rack as bad when you move them. Then you just cut out the bottom board where it cross the doorway once the wall is in place. Also, you can check code in your area, but I don't think you're using enough nails. I think It's 3 nails through the top and bottom plate into the studs. Also, Also, I know you need to leave floor access for the plumbing and HVAC, but you're creating a ton of extra work by custom cutting the subfloor just to put the walls in instead of laying down full sheets. Other than that, It's looking really good. :)

I recommend placing the washer and dryer side by side on the left side of the room. You can then build a countertop along the back wall, extending it over the washer and dryer. This arrangement will provide additional storage space and improve the room's functionality. Additionally, this setup could enhance the property's resale value in the future.

We made the best mistake ever, when finishing the basement in our previous house... I accidentally ordered a wheelchair accessible door for our laundry room, which is wider than a traditional one. We can all walk straight through the opening with our laundry baskets without having to adjust the angle to not hit our hands. We redid the laundry room in our current house and purposely did that this time. 😊

I think you might be missing some framing at the corners for drywall nailers. They aren't structural, but your drywall installer will be happier if they are in place before drywall starts. It looks missing on the right side back as seen from the hall. Also think about plumbing and a moisture barrier over the dirt/rock crawlspace before putting all the floor down, while it's easy to get to.

Tip #1 on tool pouch hanging: Whether hanging or simply wearing, tools always fall out. The torpedo level goes in one of the smaller pouches on the outside of the nail pouch, usually has a place for two pencils on the outside of it. Tip #2 When taking apart boards nailed together, drive either the claw of the hammer in between the joint where they meet and turn the hammer in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction, not in the direction like you're pulling a nail(extra tip - pulling tough nails you can use the same method as just described) or you can drive the short end of a flatbar and separate the 2 bys in the same manner as just described. Stay tuned for more handy tips from Three Hands Woodworks(that's me). Rock on!

I love every type of video you share with us! Demolition was fun and very satisfying. Still happy to see more of that if there is some to come. Building new parts is such a rewarding feeling. In the 90's, my husband and I demolished the inside of an old farmhouse as well as removing our tiny existing farmhouse off it's foundation at home. We then had the farmhouse removed from it's foundation and brought over to our existing home site a few hours away. We had it placed onto the old farmhouse foundation, augmented to fit the new house and additions we planned to make. We did this between February and October, in Canada with a 5 year old and an almost 1 year old. We lived in a small holiday trailer on site. I still have such fond memories. Hard work oh yeah! Worth it? Heck yes! We even took the time to carefully remove and save every trim piece from windows, doors and baseboards. Every door had carved glass doorknobs and we saved the original hardwood floors. You guys are slaying!! I can't wait for each new video. It takes me back. Your land is simply gorgeous. That wall behind your washer and dryer with studs on 8” centres alternating sides is a great way to prevent sound transfer. When nailing a bottom plate try to nail next to a stud so if an electrician or plumber needs to make a hole there isn’t a nail in the way to destroy drill bits or hole saws. Great work team.

When framing a wall with a doorway, use a continuous baseplate that runs the entire length of the wall. once you set the wall in place and secure it in place, cut the baseplate out of the door opening. easier to move and wall won't go crooked on you!
