all depends on how rodgers plays. he has the weapons to be the mvp again. coming off a torn achilles and being turning 40, that raises some concerns but he has the weapons and has the talent to go out there and really be a problem for defenses. the floor for a rod is lower than we want to admit, but the ceiling it higher than others want to admit
I was much younger then obviously but I'm not going to lie, I did a lot of celebrating when Brady tore his ACL and was out for the year. I retrospect not the best look but it is what it is.
Yeah, seeing it written up like that is weird. Our defense is the proven commodity, with guys who have played with each other, and that elusive "winning culture".
I was listening to a "top 20 full team but no QB, age and contract included" mock draft from three guys from the Athletic (2.5 Jets made it: Quinnen and Sauce (Sertain was CB #1 -- the way they talked about him reminded me of the way BJF talks about how Revis moved), with Garrett winding up in the bonus "who are you sad that you didn't get to pick" round last night, and when they got to the guy that picked Quinnen, they were all like "he's in that tier with Chris Jones, right below the now retired Aaron Donald, and really you can pick either one, but that CONTRACT" followed by the three drafters going on and on about how great (for the team) his contract was. BJF used the cruise control metaphor for Darrelle Revis -- that he changes direction so smoothly that you don't realize how fast he's going -- he's basically in cruise control. When they were talking about Patrick Sertain, one of the guys said "there's no highlight reels of him catching up to a pass, because he's always already in the perfect position.". Anyway, yeah, the Jets have a murderer's row of a team: the Offense, the Defense, and Special Teams. Can't wait.
I was watching the PFF Jets season preview and the dude with the British accent tried to say that the Jets 2023 roster was more talented than their 2024. I get that he's a Jets hater but that's just ignorant.
Why does the NFL insist on putting the Jets in the national spotlight from the getgo. Yes we have to play SF but why not a normal sunday game so we can ease into the schedule?
To be fair, the injury type stuff that I've seen isn't that different from things people have said about Tua and his concussions. But yeah, it's crazy -- last year was hype city: this year it's like "with a lot of luck and all the calls going their way, the Jets might -- just might -- take the next step and be a threat to the other three teams in the division." Umm, you see our offensive line? You realize what a difference maker that is? I'm not saying crown us the AFC Champions, but the team's ceiling is a ring. Recognize. This sounds dated but it's not -- people don't realize how important the offensive line is. They'll go on and on about teams with great o-lines, AFTER they've gotten to a conference championship, when it becomes obvious, but just as a pure prospect, they don't take the o-line into account. People this year are talking about the Jets as if it was last year, only Rogers is one year older. He's one year older, and he's protected by a concrete barricade, who will also block for the best RB in the AFC. Yeah, it matters. eff around and find out.
I'll deny it. We should expect Rodgers, Smith, Moses, Mosley, Williams, and Reddick to regress to some degree even if they stay healthy- something these rankings do not seem to account for. The reason we "win the offseason" every year but always end up sucking is because we're always signing players whose names are bigger than what they are likely to bring to the field. Same old Jets.
Like I said, people ignore the offensive line time and time again. Last season I was syked about Rogers, but I was also biting my nails over the line, and thinking maybe something fundamental had changed that I wasn't aware of. Nope, it hadn't. So, I'm going to disagree with you and take the radical position that having good players matters.
@@neiljohnson3761 No some of us would rather put pressure on the org to make smart football decisions at some point than just rationalize everything they do. I'm tired of having a good time in April I want to have a good time in January for once.
@@Edward19892 so you are of the opinion that the GM has made stupid decisions? Letting JFM go I disagreed with but other than that. Laken was a bust but you were excited as hell when we signed him and you know it. He drafted the offensive rookie of the year and the defense of rookie of the year in the same draft class and I’m not even talking about breeze Hall, who was injured who very well could’ve been the offensive rookie of the year. You can’t fake that buddy. I understand you’re jaded and that’s why it might just be better for you to go away no offense. I’ll wait for tangible evidence of these terrible organizational decisions. ✌🏼
QB seems modestly optimistic, true. The IDL isn't just Q -- Kinlaw's gotta step up, and I don't know if he will. I tell you what it is -- the IDL's make EDs look good and vice versa, and here they're being judged in a vacuum. The Jets line is better than the average of the IDL rating and the ED rating: they're complimentary.
Rodgers brought it on himself, and by extention us. I don't want to expand on that...but that's kind of the point; it's the fly in the ointment. Anyway, great points. Lots to be excited about.
i'm really worried about receiver. MW's ACL better be healthy. what vet out there could we bring in? don't expect much from Corley his rookie year (here's hoping) or the rest of the guys not named Garrett
This is fundamentally a team built to run the ball. The more receivers the better, but Garrett just needs a CREDIBLE second threat. I don't mean no Lazard either. Corey needs to be a positive, but he doesn't need to add that much to unleash GW.
It doesn't equate to victories. No one is pointing rooting for jet injuries. But they are depending on injury plaqued guys. I did hear jet fans last year rooting for Tua to get injured.
At least Jet fans have reasons to think it will be different with Rodgers and overall upgrades. The Dolphins got worse and we've seen all Tua has - paying him $50M and thinking anything beyond a 1at round exit is the ceiling is delusional
Dolphins majority of oline got gutted in free agency, they lost a great DT in Wilkins and didn't find an equivalent replacement like we did with Reddick when we lost huff. Dolphins and bills did get slightly worse and there's no way around it
@@michaeldubois6405 we lost Hunt and replaced Williams with Brewer who is a perfect fit for zone read offense. We lost Wilkins but Weaver coming from Ravens believes in rotation. We also got better at TE WR LB CB and are planning to sign Issah Simmons post June 1. Most non dolphin fans just say we got worse.
I didn't see rooting for Tua to get injured, but I know exactly what you're talking about -- I cited Tua as being in the "whatever -- he'll get injured" category that Rodgers is in. There was folks -- I don't know who they were fans of, who did make jokes about Tua's concussions, and that stuff isn't funny. Made me take off my Jets hat and get mad on the internet.
