You missed the part at the end... Where Ted lifts the headphones off of Warrens ears and said goodbye... Warren did not freak out and trusted him... I thought it was a big nice touch.
I think the best part that a lot of people miss is when Ted is leaving at the end he pulls the headphones away from Warren's ear to say goodbye to him. Every other time Warren would attack him, but this time he just said bye. It shows how comfortable he got with Ted by the end and I like to think it's a big reason why Mary has that expression on her face and ends up going to him.
You guys had me dying during the hair gel scene….Simone trying to explain why she likes Mary’s character meanwhile George is laughing so hard he’s crying.
Brett "Farrvvraa" was at the time of this movie one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, he was playing himself in that scene, they alluded to it earlier in the lunch scene where one of Mary's girlfriends called him "pacman". His team was the the Packers.
I saw this in the movie theatre, and during both the “frank and beans” and the “hair gel” parts, you couldn’t hear the dialogue over the audience roaring with laughter.
Same here; this movie was a riot when it was released. I was sitting behind a group of 65-year-old women and they were utterly disgusted as Ben Stiller was "cleaning the pipes". Yet they stayed for the rest of the show.
'Tucker' is a British comedian called Lee Evans, who was really big in the 90s. He's an incredible physical comedian, which he demonstrates in Mousehunt and Funny Bones. His Stand up is his best work though. I think he retired a few years ago to spend more time with his family.
I‘ve met way too many people who never had the privilege of seeing Mouse Hunt. Lee Evans and Nathan Lane are just brilliant! Walken wasn’t bad in it either 🤣
I worked at Blockbuster when this movie was released, and I’ll never forget that in the box of promo materials they included a few packets of “hair gel” 😂
He’s comedian Harland Williams. As you can see in here, he’s got his own comedic style which is hilarious. He never disappoints. His stand up is wonderfully weird and most know him from this, Dumb & Dumber and Half Baked.
I saw this in the theater and when the hair gel scene came up you could not hear their dialogue in the restaurant due to all the laughter. I had to watch it again just to hear that part. One of the funniest movies that cam out during this time.
The guy with the guitar that keeps coming back and singing throughout the movie is Jonathan Richman, a legendary singer-songwriter from Boston. It's funny that Simone is wearing a Talking Heads shirt, because Jerry Harrison played keys in Richman's original band The Modern Lovers.
He’s not an asshole like Pablo Picasso… 😉 I was a fan of his and had his album Modern Lovers 88 which is typical Richman: songs about harpo marx and dancing and eating falafel late at night. I liked his greek chorus in the movie, but completely understood why some of the audience applauded like George did when he got shot!😝
Tucker is played by a British comedian called Lee Evans, so the American accent is the fake one, although his British accent is exaggerated compared to his natural one.
The Farrelly brothers also directed Kingpin, which has a few of the minor characters that were in this movie. Highly recommended. I think at the time the movie was made, Matt Dillon was going out with Cameron Diaz.
Kingpin is a funny movie I wish more reaction channels would 'react' to, Woody Harrelson & Bill Murray are great in it, and you're right, Matt & Cameron were a couple at the time. Matt Dillion has made/been in a lot of great/good movies too, I just watched Drugstore Cowboy again the other night on tv, and I own the dvd. lol
So much this! Kingpin is so awesome. "We don't have a cow, but we have a bull" lol :) Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray and Randy Quaid in a Farrelly movie. Can't go wrong.
Yeah Brett Favre was a very famous football player and did a cameo. You guys missed when Ted was walking out and said goodbye to Warren he touched Warren's ears when lifting his headphones. Mary told Ted earlier in the movie Warren goes berserk if anyone touches his ears that he doesn't really trust. Mary saw this and realized Ted would be her best choice in the end.
This is the first Ben Stiller movie I've ever seen. When Mary asks him to the Prom and smiles, forgetting to be self conscious about his braces. It was such an honest moment and beautiful. I became an instant Ben Stiller fan.
Lee Evans (Tucker) is technically faking both accents. He is English, but his accent is basically Cockney (a London accent) and far less posh than his accent here. In his stand-up, he's quite possibly the best physical comedian of all time. I saw him live about twenty years ago, and he's the most humble, unassuming guy you could meet. As he took his final bow, a couple of people ran up to the stage for his autograph. He agreed, cue an ocean of people running up for the same. I decided to join the end of the queue. At one point, his stage manager came on to tell him he had "that thing" and had to leave. He replied that there was no such "that thing", and he was fine where he was, and he would catch up with the in the pub. As my turn came, I realised he had spent two solid hours signing, taking photos, and whatnot. Twenty minutes longer than the show lasted. I pointed this out to him. He looked concerned and said "should the show have been longer?" I said of course not, but that it was very uncommon for a huge star to devote this much time to his fans. His reply: "the way I see it, I get to go out every night and live out my dream. Plus, it's given me a lifestyle I could never have imagined. That's all down to you guys. If all I have to do in return is spend a couple of hours meeting you all, seems a fair swap to me". The next tour he did was with a show about 3 hours long. I'm glad he's retired to spend more time with his family, but the comedy world misses him. Top, top man.
The zipper and "hair gel" scenes are classic. This movie needs a comeback, more reactions. Matt Dillion is my mom's cousin. I remember after watching The Outsiders with him, my little sister tried to put this on when it came on the TV because he was in it. On of the fastest remote snatches I've seen my mom perform lol.
Haha Matt Dillon’s first film was Over the Edge from 1979. He plays a young tough 14 year old from the wrong side of the tracks. The films about a bunch of bored kids living in a planned suburban community which offers nothing for the under 18 crowd, so they resort to vandalism, and laying siege to a school during a PTA meeting. It’s exploitation, but actually has a pretty heavy message, and it’s actually pretty awesome:)
I normally aren't into reaction videos. Both of these two are pretty genuine. It helps I now have a Simone crush after watching most of the available reactions. The dude reminds me of an old friend I miss lol.
In the Extended Cut, there is more Jeffrey Tambor. He is a recovering drug addict and being with Healy causes him to relapse, which is why you can see him in the fridge doing drugs during the "Buttercup" credits number. He has a pet python -- you can still see the snake tree pet structure when Stiller goes to confront Healy at his apartment -- and in the end someone comes to the apartment and discovers a gigantic lump inside the python. At first they think it's his huge dog, but then the dog reappears, and they realize it's Tambor's character. You've seen Lee Evans (Tucker) before. He played the captain of the interstellar cruise ship from the middle section of The Fifth Element. The Farrellys have a personal passion for the developmentally disabled. Although Warren was played by someone who is not part of that community, all of the other people you see Mary helping are real members of the disability community. The Farrellys often cast people they know in their movies who are developmentally disabled as a show of support. Sadly, I doubt the three Ben Stiller movies I'd most like to see you do would do very well on the channel. The most promising would probably be the one he's barely in, which is The Cable Guy, the dark comedy that he directed starring Jim Carrey. It was big for Jim because it was his first $20m payday, but people didn't expect the movie to be a dark comedy and it was notoriously hated at the time. Now it has a better reputation. There's also the landmark '90s romantic dramedy he directed and co-stars in, Reality Bites, starring Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke. It's very different from stuff like Dodgeball/Tropic Thunder/Mary, but I really like it. The most obscure one, which I have recommended before, is a movie that also came out this same year, a mystery-comedy called Zero Effect co-starring Bill Pullman, which is outstanding and hugely underrated.
The Brett Favre reveal was huge when this move came out in the theatres. He was the starting QB for the Green Bay Packers amd was one of the most well known NFL players at the time
Fun fact: Matt Dillon and Cameron Díaz were in a relationship while filming this movie. Dillon was a teen Idol back in the late 70s and 80s who transitioned to drama and comedy since the late 80s. I recommend You watch some of his films. My Bodyguard, Rumble Fish, The Outsiders, Drugstore Cowboy, Singles, To Die For, You Me and Dupree, Crash, etc.
What's fascinating about the Farrelly Brothers is that they have made some very raunchy and outrageous comedies (Dumb and Dumber, Me Myself and Irene), but have employed actual disabled actors like Rene Kirby who suffers from spina bifida who appeared in their film Shallow Hal.
In "Dumb and Dumber" Harold spends the movie pursuing Mary Swanson, but doesn't end up with her. So they had Ben get the girl in this movie because they didn't want to turn "guy pursues girl, but doesn't get her" as a cliche. Also the female love interest in both movies is named Mary. Coincidence?
I'm Australian and saw this film when it came out to video in 98. I was 12 and knew who Brett Favre was when he walked in with Warren on his back. He was at the peak of his playing career at that time. Greatest QB the Packers have ever had. Terrific athlete and from all accounts a terrific humble man. I often forget not everyone is as sport crazy as I am so it I didn't understand how you didn't realise who he was. Love you guys and your reactions none the less.
Well, he's in hot water right now for using money meant for welfare to build a volleyball court at his daughters school and he had to pay back money for "public apperances" that he didn't make so..... But he could throw a football!
Flicking bean and waxing carrot????? My favorite ad ever. Keep this sponsor. Keep Simone reading them. I bet people won’t skip through. OMG that was awesome. :-)
I was dying with the hair gell and George’s out of control laugh made it so much better! 😅 your channel just keeps getting better and better! Good job you two!
I watched this in the theatres twice because I found it so funny. It was one of those movies that made more money in the 8th weekend than the previous 5 weekends due to word of mouth. Since there was not that many people on the internet back then, it was mostly just people telling their friends or co-workers in person how funny they thought it was that gave movies that boost in numbers.
Lee Evans, the actor playing Tucker is actually British and is faking the American accent. He also plays Nathan Lane's brother in the movie "Mouse Hunt" (1997)
I’ve tried the “hair gel” thing with my boyfriend when I was in my 20’s….when this movie came out. We were both drunk. My feedback is, that it certainly isn’t as effective as the “gel” in the movies…but it was hilarious conducting the experiment…😂😂
The Last American Virgin is a 1982 American sex comedy film written and directed by Boaz Davidson. In an essay written a quarter-century later, critic Andy Selsberg noted that, unlike the other teen sex comedies of the 1980s, The Last American Virgin was the only one truthful enough to have a "main character... left longing for his dream girl", whereas all the others were "acheless"
Very surprised you never heard of Matt Dillon. He's not extremely well known but is an Oscar nominee for Supporting Actor in 2006 for Crash. Not to be confused with the 1995 movie of the same name directed by David Cronenberg, starring James Spader and Holly Hunter.
my first introduction to him was My Bodyguard, but he was also in the outsiders (with oh so many young actors), Rumble Fish, Drugstore Cowboy (oh what a movie!), Singles, Wild Things, Crash, Armored...
@@rmnffx Yeah, I definitely had a ‘wtf?’ moment when they didn’t know who he was. I had a second when they didn’t realize who Brett Favre was (though that one was a little more understandable).
He was a GIGANTIC movie star and a millions of girl crushes. I really like his acting chops in Employee Of The Month but I’ve liked his work since The Outsiders and The Flamingo Kid days.
Saw this in the theatre, packed in crowd. The hair gel scene was, without a doubt, the loudest I’ve ever heard a crowd laugh…me included. I’ll remember that moment forever.
Aaahhhh... the hair gel moment, possibly the funniest and most uncomfortable moment in cinema history for younger ones watching with their parents or other older relatives.
The guy whose accent you like is Lee Evans. He is a comedian in the UK. Was pretty popular in the late 90s/early 00s so probably how he managed to get this role.
I watched it with my stepdad and stepsister. She was still quite young at the time, so while my stepdad and I were howling with laughter, she didn’t have a clue what was going on! To this day it’s recognised as a genuine family film here 😁
Early radio telephone systems used frequencies around 160MHz. Transmission was analogue, narrow-band FM, and could be easily received on any receiver covering this frequency (it was often marked as “Weather” on multi-band sets), or suitably-modified amateur radio equipment. Once this was known, CB radio receiver manufactures started to block those frequencies and eventually once cellular phones went to digital it is no longer that easy to pickup, decode and listen in.
OMG, that baked in AD, and even George dropping another mention of them later in the video. I can't think of any promotion that has been better done in a reaction video! So I'll be waiting on an update on that 'science experiment' if you two ever change your minds🤣
"Brett" was Brett Favre, who was a Hall of Fame quarterback for the Green Bay Packers - around the time this movie came out he was arguably the best player in the league
Simone's confused face trying to understand, during the "monkey spanking" scene, why Ted was looking all around the bathroom -- was almost as good as her reaction to the "hair gel" application by Mary 🤣 But of course all the guys watching including George immediately knew what was up LOL
I loved the reaction to the hair gel scene. George laughed tears (and so did I) and Simone tried to explain that Mary even didn't look in a mirror. 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Ted was the best choice for Mary, come on. They had the most in common. And he never did a bad thing, he was just trying to find her. And he was even willing to give her up for her to be happy. It would not have been a satisfying ending if they did not end up together.
Brett Favre played in the NFL for 20 years, was a major star, won the SuperBowl, was MVP 3x, and he's in the Hall of Fame. For more than 18 consecutive seasons he never missed a game, which is unbelievable, and he excelled in games where the temperature was close to or below freezing. So yeah, it's funny to see him as Ben Stiller's romantic rival. :)
Went to see this in theaters with my ex wife. She was clueless about what he was looking for after jerking off as well. My friend had a similar story with his date...I think its a universal thing that women dont get that scene until they see it hanging from his ear. The confusion on Simones face while George was laughing was the funniest part of the reaction for me. I was waiting for it and wasnt dissapointed.
Matt Dillon is great, one of The Outsiders actors that went on to successful careers (along with Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, C Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez). Drugstore Cowboy (with a young Heather Graham) is one of my favorite movies that nobody seems to be aware of these days, much like Matt Dillon I suppose.
The loving someone who puts you on a pedestal and was obsessed with you for years trope was way more accepted in the 90s and early 2000s than it is today. Think Ross and Rachel from "Friends" and Julia Roberts' character in "My Best Friend's Wedding" (also starring Cameron Diaz).
There are three movies that made me laugh so hard that not only my face hurt by the end but my ribs as well. Blazing Saddles, What's up Doc? and this movie. Funny thing is that except for Blazing Saddles, which I've seen many times, I've never rewatched the other two. I think I will.
I remember seeing this at the theater and thinking it was the funniest movie id ever seen. As others have stated, Kingpin is like this movie turned up to 11. Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray are comic gold.
