“I was able to see his fingers but I was unable to see his toes because he had his shoes on”😂I’m sure you didn’t go into this blindfolded like myself I see a name brand and my thoughts are “I’m taking it “ you made it presentable and it’s running 👍we need to know when to hold and when to fold, this is where I walk away. 👏👏love that torch tip making the plastic looking good, thx again for great info.

In case you run into needing a brake again, the Classics and Newer OHV Briggs use the exact same brake part. They are interchangeable. I just worked on that exact same mower over the weekend. Mine had a hole in the rear of the deck (2 actually) and I was going to scrap the deck. Had a rebuilt newer Briggs (swapped a crankshaft from one with damaged rings, into one that ran with a bent crank) that I put on it for testing after removing the classic . After testing, changed my mind, and used some JB Weld Steel Stick and covered the holes. It sold today, as a cheap mower to help someone out. Figured this was originally pieced together from items that were gonna hit the scrap yard originally. Would never get back my time's value, but it was a learning experience and way to save usable materials from the scrap yard while helping someone with a low budget.

This is a good mower motor and it's not smoking and fixing the carp issue is very easy so it's a keeper, i have the exact mower from 2013 and still going strong, Over the years i did change some parts including the brake wire, air filter and spark plug, This year i changed the bulb and fuel tank. one thing you have to check from time to time is that every bolt is tight, ( vibration can make things become lose) And Before the mowing season i spray the brake line with WD40 from the top of the handle and i leave it for sometime, then it will be lubricated all the way to the bottom and easy to move and it will never brake. The Air filter can be cleaned but you can also buy them in bulk for cheap. If you plan to keep it, i would spray paint the deck to keep it rust free. As long as you do the basic maintenance this mower will last you a long time.

I've got that riding mower that I told you about with the bad flywheel and stator. When I determined that the engine was not locked up, I decided to repair it instead of parting it out, since the rest of the mower is in near perfect condition. As I began digging into it, I found the two broken posts for the stator, the fuel filter was plugged and the lines were collapsed, bought a $60 carb kit for a Nikki carb and also used some parts out of my stash, found that the starter was seized, tore the head gasket breaking the engine down to diagnose it, and all of the inner parts for the gas cap were in pieces in the bottom of the tank. By the time I found everything, I was already committed to fixing it, so I'm just gonna keep going. I'll have probably $250 in parts and about ten hours of labor in it by the time I finish cleaning it and reassembling everything. It wouldn't be a big deal to me if I was not working on two push mowers and a another riding mower simultaneously. Too many projects, lol. It would bring about $400-$500 in my area, and it will look great when I am done with it. It's worth it to me. It is a nice mower.

I am in the same boat as you with a 1999 Poulan Pro 46in rider with a 20HP Briggs. Paid $50 for the mower in “left outside to rot when quit on previous owner” condition and put $230 in parts to get it back “usable” for mowing again. Fixed the walked out valve guide Taryl Dactyl style in left cylinder head and replaced bent push rod, cleaned carb, and got engine running again. Most parts money was spent refurbishing/conditioning the deck. I estimate to add the “preferred” additional parts (IE new deck belts, drive belt, rear tire tube, steering shaft assembly, used fuel tank, crankshaft seal, etc) will be another $200 for a mower I can only get $500-$600 out of on FB market place. I just try and think of it as more small engine education for myself and once fully sorted an otherwise great rider for my 1acre of mowing and utility cart puller for around my property 😊.

Tough call. Usually when I’m looking at a mower I’ll try to add up the parts that it will need in my head. If it has bald or wobbly wheels, is missing parts like a handle bail, needs a recoil starter etc. I’ll just pass it by unless it’s free and I have at least some of the parts on hand. The worst is when I don’t notice all that stuff and pay too much for something that needs costly parts. I’ll usually make up for it on the next one though!

It seems like they may have had some type of issue with the kill system. I have a similar problem on a similar mower that I can't figure out. They probably just disabled it and ran the mower without so they could use it. Everything that is missing is part of that system. It is a wild guess, but it's the best one I have.

you might be right, but they obviously didn't mind selling it that way , which could be a huge liability
@mattwickert736
@mattwickert736 Месяц назад
Those kill systems are very straight forward. What's the issue you are having with yours? There's really only about 2 main items with them that will cause you not to get spark or to get it randomly - the wire running to the coil is grounding along the way (insulation can/does wear out or get damaged) or there is enough grime/grease around the part that connects when it closes that it's grounding through that build up. I have seen a case of the green crusties cause one to NOT work before, too.

They bypassed the brake because they didn’t want to spend the 30$ on a mower worth $50. I tend to remove the spark plug boot and bend a small piece of sheet metal and bolt it under one of the head bolts. Then you can push the tab onto the plug to short it out and kill the engine. Saves you having to put the plug wire back on all the time and wearing it out. Unless you have small children around or an iq below 50 most people would never have an issue with missing digits lol

How can you possibly make anything fixing and selling push mowers? Even if you got it for free and it only needs a $20 carb kit and an hour of labor, seems like it’s going to be hard to make anything off the job when you factor in the time required to find the mowers and then sell them? I cant see anyone paying more then $100 for a used mower Ike this considering how cheap a new one is. Riding mowers and zero turn mowers are probably worth flipping if you can get them for the right price, but push mowers?
