I've said it joining France/Eco would be an acquisition of Nigeria. People would become poorer, less confidence of our businesses or entrepreneurs to compete. The key to Africa's growth and success is participating in Global trade, increase in African entrepreneurs and Unity/support amongst African and its businesses. How many African millionaires or billionaires can you find in Francophone african countries today ? Go figure. Few to none. Cause France businesses become the producers and the middleman (Owners of the whole supply chain). Nigerians let's keep our Naira. I watched this twice and this guy makes alot of sense. I checked and the Naira was unpegged from USD in 2016 to avoid foreign manipulation. Why would Nigeria go back to a currency(Eco) that's pegged to the Euro? And why would they lose their central banks to let France control it? It doesn't make sense. I think Nigeria knows this which is why they're dragging their feet and most likely won't join. Only way I see this happening if the Eco exchange rate is so low that the corrupt politicians will join so the money they steal can go further.

The guest is very impressive.. he should come back. First we need the French troops out of Africa, and we do not want an ECO that is pegged to the Euro, it would only cause more corruption and instability. France has been using the 50% reserves that belong to the Francophone countries to control and develop Europe and its Caribbean Islands for many years, and still taking the mineral and natural resources of the Francophone countries at half the price of the actual price... these Francophone countries are just plain weak and stupid... like the guest said, why is France not telling other countries to surrender their currency.

When you read the article it would explain a lot of things about why France is trying to encourage you to change your currency.

Don't understand Nigerians. As a big brother if they had quickly met the criteria, had the ECO in circulation they would have dictated the rules. The francophone countries quickly adopted the ECO & made their rules becos there was none in circulation. If today they start printing the currency there is nothing Nigeria and the rest can do. Nigeria is too busy looking inwards instead of doing what Germany did. They are the ones who will benefit most from a single currency. A single currency still happen with or without Nigeria. Without Nigeria it well be like the CFA, with Nigeria it has the potential to be like the EURO. If they let this moment pass they will forever be boxed in, & their whole ECOWAS project will be a big waste.

Mr. Reporter you're talking about trading with other countries such as America you have 54 countries in the continent of Africa if you open all your borders you could do free trade among all the other countries. Come on brother think about it make the other continents come to Africa..... Grow your own rice your own beans your own Tomatoes your own watermelon and everything that's imaginable. If you open all the borders and have free trade areas within the continent of Africa then you don't have to get your goods in need of a continent.

I get that the interviewee opposes a currency union citing that it has not brought prosperity to Nigeria. And that in fact the country has rather done a lot for the region and Africa to it's own detriment. I think what we as West Africans, and Africans, need to seek within ourselves and weigh things out to see how have we done, how are we doing? Do we like it as it things as they are now, do we like how it has been? The Ecowas project started in 1975 and had ambitions for all the things outlined on trade, a currency union and shared institutions because of what? It seams to me we may have lost what it is that we wanted to achieve. That may be why we would not enforce and set up institutions that will help us get there. We hold the European Union as the model, among other unions in Asia and America. Truth is we forget it all must be centered or focused on 'people'. The people of Africa. Today, Nigeria alone - which forms 1/5 of the continent's population - still has almost half of its population living in extreme poverty. We have around 1.3 billion people in Africa with more than half below the age of 35 and needing jobs, housing, decent healthcare, and food. We are told all these numbers and demographics will double by 2050. So, I'd argue if the interviewee has another way we can feed ourselves, cloth ourselves and live decent healthy lifestyles in the next 25 years as our population doubles, he should tell us. Otherwise, we most probably just need to try harder to build these institutions up, trade more with each other and enact and implement more policies that help raise the many out of poverty than just the few in Nigeria alone. If Nigeria alone does well, as history has shown us in South Africa, every body will move there to your doorstep and compete with your citizens for your jobs, food and shelter. We know what this leads to right? Let us attempt to do what allows more of our peoples everywhere on the continent to thrive and look after themselves. We don't really have any other option, I feel.

Mr. Isemede, sounds very knowledgeable, experienced and capable but he communicates in an emotive, hurried, disjointed and seems rather angry in getting his points across and that detracted from the otherwise impactful information that he was conveying. He should calm down, and try to be less tense in his apparent desire to finger point and fault find. Just point out what's missing and what's needed to correct things and leave the apportionment of blame to the audience members.

The Nigerian Niara is a strong current, with Nigeria at over 20% of Africa's economy, why can't Africa states peck their currencies to the Naira? How will we make Africa competitive and strong with Europeans and Americans currencies if we cannot come together to strengthen what is strongest among us.

John Isemede was more concerned about displaying his knowledge than giving appropriate answers to the interviewer's questions and that really affected the quality of this interview. Really looking forward to a better interview on this topic from Channels TV because I still don't understand the whole ECO concept yet.

Given the euphoria about Nana Akufo Ado being the contemporary chief priest of pan-Africanism, you would not believe that he would allow Ghana to be used and manipulated by France. After France and Alasana Watara (someone help me spell his name correctly) connived to steal the Eco, Ghana was one of the first counties to surrender its soul to the currency, day-light looting by France with the assistance of Cote’ de Voir, why? It is impossible for there to be a currency convergence with so many disparities among the candidate member countries. It does not matter fro which angle you look at the issue, whether it is fiscal policy, monetary policy, or whatever, it is simply not workable. ECOWAS should learn from the experiences of the Euro and the manipulative Macron.

This is the 3rd Video I watched from Nigerian analyst, and it looks like their just complaining instead of taking leadership as the biggest economy. Ghana expressed interest in joining the eco and yet urged that, it should be unpegged to the euro before we join. But you guys always eliminate this fact. I wasn't happy when Ghanaian president actually said this because I thought that, Outarra had betrayed the west African arrangement but I dont know why almost all the speakers are just blaming Ghana. China is big but yet needs their neighbors and same with Nigeria so we need each other.

Great job John Isemede! Long story short, if we are gonna build Africa for the Africans, here's what needs to happen. No fiat currencies, no Central banks(Rothchilds of England)!!! Those are old-world traps. We use Bitcoin or create our own CFTA cryptocurrency tied to Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the future and governments around the world are racing to catch up and make the conversion to digital currencies.
